Review Tim Ho Wan - Singapore

Freddy Samad
I've been going to this Tim Ho Wan for years and the food never disappoints. The pork spare ribs are meaty and juicy. Sumai and hagao are succulent and aromatic, they just hit the spot of what sumai and hagao are supposed to be. Rice congee is full with umami. Beef brisket noodle tastes like hiw they make it in Hongkong. The pork cutlet curry rice is just nice and tender. Last but not least, the baked pork bun has been consistently crispy on the outside and soft in the inside while the taste is simply heavenly. The restaurant is quite small and decor is just so so. The ambiance is meh with typical eat and beat spot with high turnover rate. For me, all that inconvenience are nothing, the food is by far worth it. Price is not cheap, kinda steep but I wouldn't say very expensive. Would I return? For sure. Why no 5 stars? To be honest, it's the service. Most of the waiters there speak english halfway and I'm having hard time understanding what they say. Second is the demeanor; they're not trying to be rude but when they want to do everything super fast then simple things like putting utensils on table will sound like banging on the table. It's also not convenient trying to get their attention, seems like they're always busy or nowhere to be found altogether. I expect such service in mainland china but not in Singapore, especially not in Tim Ho Wan.

Dim sum with several signature ala carte dishes made for a pleasant meal. In itself the fried rice with crab meat n ebiko was yummy but could have been improved with a bit more wok hei. The evergreen fried char siew buns did not disappoint n it was well filled n crisp on the outside. The steamed dumplings with a type of mala sauce was a bit lackadaisical n lacked punch, perhaps the dumplings were too small size wise. The pork ribs were scrumptious with the added flavours of steamed yam with the black beans. Phoenix claws were mediocre but the salted egg/custard buns finally saved the day. All in, it was an enjoyable meal with attentive service n not too long a wait for tables. Lastly they do have a pretty efficient separate take away service counter - kudos to that 👍

Tim Ho Wan is a place I would go for hot dim sum. This outlet usually have a long queue during meal times on weekend. While queueing we are given the menu and we could make our orders before entering the restaurant. Food were served fast, hot and taste great. I particularly love their chili sauce. Seats were comfortable. Due to the peak hour, staff were very busy. Although I requested for additional chili sauce, they acknowledged but the chili sauce never came. Price is on the higher side but it's worth going once in a while.

The food kept the good standard. The Pu Er Tea was very fragrant and served really hot - the temperature which I like. The service was average. No smile, no warmth but efficient and competent.

One of the many Tim Ho Wans that have popped up across the whole island serving the famed and popular Hong Kong cuisine of dim sum items as well as more current dishes with noodles the feature. Service was attentive and food was served efficiently. Queue system was also good given the long line.

Consistently good and you can never go wrong with Tim Ho Wan! Loved the seasonal dish but we also had some of our favorites including the char siew bao which is a must! It comes in a set of 3 buns and if you are two to dine-in... you'll have to fight for the last bun! :D

Not the best experience and I think the standard here dropped. Reached the branch at 8pm, was told that last order is 8.30pm and shop closes at 9pm. But last order round was made at 8.15pm and the got chased to pay up for the bill at 8.20pm. So what they shared verbally didn’t really meet the time expectation of the dining experience here unfortunately. Lastly, the cheong fan really tasted very rubbery - like made from central kitchen and prawns not very fresh

Shrimp and Spinach dumpling was light and refreshing. The mini HK egg tart were yummy and cute. Not messy when eating cause you can just eat it with one shot.
