Review Hai Chang Fishhead Steamboat - Singapore

After placing your order, you just wait. You got no receipt whatsoever and can only hope they had not forgotten about you. It's a relief when they brought the utensils to your table. The waiting time was 1 hour 28 minutes, but this is Mother's Day and can't consider as normal. The fish head steamboat is average but the "Hei Zhou" was good.

After 2 months, finally can have up to 5 pax dine in at Food Centre. Was so disappointed at the Medium size Garuopa fish soup. So few pieces of fish & camouflage with vegetables to make it look a lot. Fortunately the other dishes were actually good & value for money. Avoid the steamboat fish soup & just go for other dishes.

Just there for the renowned fish head hotpot experience. Not bad. Do order a few side dishes to go with the hotpot. Come an hour early... now they take orders from 5pm, because the crowd starts streaming on from 6pm.

A very poor experience with this stall. They put that they are only sell red grouper as their basic soup but when the soup is here, there is only a few pieces of "normal" grey grouper meat. I went to ask the stall, they claim that there is not much red grouper in the market, and their supplier supply them with mix groupers. I believe the stall owners should at least let the customer know before they order. At the end of the day they are still charging normal grouper with red grouper price.

Both of us had a medium steamboat of red garoupa at $38 and a plate of 8pcs prawn-paste mid-section chicken wings costing $12. The soup had a coarse burnt taste perhaps from the rather burnt dried flat fish used to pep up the soup to that typical Teochew flavour. For the size of the pot, the ingredients could be improved in (physical)size and quantities. However, the fish pieces were indeed fresh though not quite chunky as in some other places. Final verdict: Average, 3 stars out of 5.

Nice fish head steamboat to have on rainy day.. Soup taste abit blend to start with but it was so savoury and tasty at the end (we did not request to add any soup at all); side dish (he co) was not bad too!

Before November 2018, I used to frequent this market since I stayed at Tampines to do marketing, eat dinner with my kids, etc. Now that I've moved to North East side of Singapore for 2 yrs plus, my hubby suggested coming here for dinner on Apr 1 2021 (Thur) after alighting my daughter for her training@OTH. We wanted to eat Sheng Li Zichar place at the Round Market but it was closed. I told my hubby to order 3 dishes but he ended up ordering 4 dishes. The cost of the dinner is $35 for 2 pax. The 1st dish that came (toufu minced meat) was a disappointment. It was watery, bland and the minced meat was lesser. I asked my hubby if they had a change of cook because the standard seemed to have dropped. He agreed the sauce was bland and watery. The other 3 dishes (prawn paste chicken, kangkong and the batang fish soup) were ok. Batang fish soup I believed they took the same soup from their fishhead steamboat. I am not totally impressed even though the fish meat is fresh. Prawn paste chicken still tasted the same as when we ate them way back year 2018 and before. Kangkong is so-so only !

As usual its very crowded where you can see the customers occupying long stretch of tables in the area. Nowadays the charcoal setting is done by young chaps and as you can see from pic that it doesn't boil nor charcoal was red nor any flame burning. This part is below standard. Fish and the soup is still nice. Sweet and Sour Pork is a little off standard. Sambal kangkong and Prawn Paste Friend Chicken are both yummy. Will return to eat again. Hopefully the charcoal setting standard improves.
