Review Serangoon Gardens Pow Sing Restaurant - Singapore

First time trying pow sing, pleasantly surprised! They are known for the chicken rice, amongst other signature dishes like the prawn rolls. Not hotel 5 star food, but they are as unassuming appearances as they are delightfully fresh. Will try again if in the area!

Jewel branch review. This branch is located at one of my favorite location in Singapore. I was walking around looking for a place to have dinner and settled on this seemingly unassuming restaurant. The food was a pleasant surprise. The Hor Fun had a very nice char to it. Curry fish head was also very good, spicy but not too much. Coffee had a nice aroma to it. Portioning is fine. Service was fair. Not too long of a queue on a Friday night. Pricing is alright. There isnt much to shout about with regards to the ambiance, just a typical eatery. Parking is plentiful.

I have been eating chicken rice at Pow Sing since I was a little boy. Back then it was in a coffeeshop on the side, which is a bank now. The queue was always long and I grew up eating chicken rice from Pow Sing, and it is my favourite chicken rice. Now, I bring my wife and children to have chicken rice at Pow Sing. They have their own restaurant now, and has moved a few shops away from the original place.

Chicken Rice (SGD $6.50) @ Pow Sing Kitchen. . Founded in 1983 by Lee Chin Soo and Steven Tan, this heritage chicken rice brand is also known for their range of Peranakan dishes. . While they formerly had roast chicken readily available, they've since focused solely on poached chicken. It's clean-tasting with a light springy tender chew, mild sweet savoury flavour, nicely pleasant. . The rice is aromatic and fluffy with grainy sweet notes. As a set meal, they also serve it with a vegetable of the day, in this case, I had tender broccoli and carrots with vegetal sweet flavour. . Couldn't resist getting the add-on bakwan kepiting / minced pork and crab meat ball soup at SGD $8 too.

Been coming here since I was a kid - back when this was the first outlet and bigger before it moved to Jewel. The chicken rice is still good as ever and service is really prompt. It's comfort food for me Everytime and the menu has evolved over the years but the usual signature dishes still remain and are nostalgic for me.

The Cordyceps chicken herbal soup (9.8$++) was enough to fill 3 bowls. The soup was very flavourful and quite calming. We went to the restaurant when it was raining, so it was the perfect choice! Also tried their famous Hainanese Chicken rice (4$++) which comes in 2 options roasted or steamed, we chose steamed. The taste & flavour was quite nice. The third dish was their signature Nonya Cabbage Rolls (16$++) every element cooked perfectly, had a lot of flavour, came 6 pieces in the portion, but would still say it was a bit expensive compared to other items on the menu. There were many condiment sauces on the table and the service was very prompt, would go again whenever I'm in the area.

Despite the many changes in the Serangoon Gardens area, this is one of the longstanding shops still operating. I'd prefer the chicken to be a bit oiler, but otherwise, the food is great, and the prices are still reasonable. If you speak Cantonese, use it when ordering; the staff will be happy.

Pow Sing downsized from 2 to 1 units and lost its good old charm. The food is not as good as it used to be….. very disappointed.
