Review Ladyboy Moo-ka-cheese - Singapore

First time visiting this Mookata. Boss was friendly and informed us that his charcoal pot is back!!! Marinated meat was nice and we had a nice alfresco dinner. Add on off marinated beef was good, prawn need to be fresher though. Overall, its good and worth a try 👍

The meat was tasty, although I find the soup to be a bit bland Friendly staff

The food is decent and I love the fact they use charcoal for the grilling of food. The service crew is horrendous, their cook gives better service than the service crew. When I was making payment at the counter, the service crew asked me to wait so she could take the receipt to the customers outside before coming back to let me make the payment. Feels like the service crew is not having a good day so customers should feel the same.

Went to check out mookata @ katong as it was marketed as traditional mookata that uses charcoal. Arrival at the restaurant only to see tables with gas stoves. Service was poor, staff just left the meat and vegetables platter our table and walked off without turning on the gas stove for us. Another staff came to turn on the gas stove only after my husband made a runkus. Within seconds after the stove was turned on, it run out of gas. Had to catch the attention of staff to get the gas canister changed. The chicken was not thinly sliced, which took longer to cook. Their marinated meats were too salty for my liking. Ordered their pandan chicken but was utterly disappointed, there was no pandan fragrance in the dish, the chicken was overcooked and dry, the oil was not drained off properly before serving, you can see the oily dish from the photos. Place gets crowded by 7ish and you need to be on waitlist to get a table, I guess this is perhaps due to lack of Thai / mookata restaurants in katong area....

This Mookata restaurant is clean and the pot is heated by charcoal. This make the whole experience different from other mookata place. The basic pork soup base is flavourful and the meat from the set meal is nice marinated. Will return to this place again for another meal for some other soup.

Ordered a few ala carte dishes, price was higher than other places so i would thought its portion was bigger or at least it's food's quality would be good. To my shock, they served 4 pieces of pork belly for $8, charged soup base based on per pax. Portion of other dishes were so small i left the place having to go to other place to have dinner/ supper. overall, disappointing food portion and quality, price was ridiculous.

Dishonest cheats. They only delivered 2 small side dishes to us and did not inform anyone that they could not make the main dishes. Made us pay full delivery fees for 2 side sticks, and forced us to try and get alternative food at 830pm.

The food is pretty good, marinated meat is nice. Ordered 4 pax set for $81 ( inc. GST + service charge ) a little bit high price. It is quite hot there due to weaker air conditioner, recommended to add corn first as the soup is heavenly with the corn ( really sweet! ) Charcoal is used which is a nice twist of course. If the air conditioner is stronger and the price a bit lower, it'll be better, service is quite okay as went not on peak hours, it appears there are more staff based on other reviews. P.S. Chilli sauce not very spicy, but children may not like it much due to some spices in it.

My first time eating there. The place is very accessible and easy to find. Made a reservation and although the place was quite packed, we managed to get a seat like right away. The spread was good and fresh. Love the cheese dip (especially the salted egg cheese and the ladyboy cheese). Price is reasonable as well. However it would be better if there was pork fats avaliable to have the full mookata experience. The icecream and drinks was quite nice too. The service was prompt and the food came really fast and the owner/staff was trying his very best to make it a good experience for us. Brought my friends there and they all enjoyed it as well. Will come again another time :)

Looks nice but food was not great. I never really like mookata or bbq. The experience did not change me. More for youngsters who probably have the whole night to eat and be merry. No baby lobsters and white prawns the time I was there. My family did not really enjoy the food. For the same amount spent, I could have patronised JB Ah Meng or Sik Bao Xin. Service was great though. The waitress helped us to remove the shells from the crayfish in order to speed up the cooking process.

Went on a Friday evening around 630pm. To be fair , it was pleasant since there wasn't any crowd yet . All of us were enjoying for the initial 20-30mins. Then it was full house and I swear we were horrified . Back in OCS, there was a gas chamber course . They would put you in a room and pop a smoke grenade. I was on mc so I couldn't attend . I thought I missed a valuable experience in a life , but boy I was so wrong... because I experienced something similar today, or rather a more intensified one . Suddenly I thought Singapore was having such a bad haze, so bad that the haze decided in sneak into the restaurant. I could barely open my eyes as it stings , I almost cooked my hand on the mookata grill . Once in my life I thought of buying a oxygen restriction mask to train myself when I go for runs , but today I realised Ladyboy mookata came well equipped with all the elite squad training props. Training my eyes and my lungs . If you ever had a session of mookata and found your clothes and hair all reeked with the bbq smell , try having a session here; you'll probably need to go to a spa and soak yourself in some aromatic Jacuzzi to get rid of the smell under your skin. If you think this feedback is exaggerated in any way , check with the staff there. I left after about 45 mins, barely had enough food to make worth of the cost. During payment I asked the staff if it's like this everyday, and yeah true enough they don't even know why the management isn't doing anything like fixing up a proper ventilation . I'm worried about your staff working there and not myself, as they are there for long hours everyday while I would only have to suffer once . At the very least , the cheese dip are fabulous and the food quality are fresh.

If I could give is a half a star, I would. Made a reservation with my friends at about 11pm on a friday night, to our surprise, there were plenty of seats available. Place is barely filled up. All of us ordered the buffet, and ordered the soup base at an additional $5. Soup tasted horrible, it is so bland that we can’t even be bothered with using it to cook anything anymore and started using it to “wash” our chopstick in between each grilling session barely even 5 minutes into our eating session. Ordered their Ladyboy cheese and the salted egg cheese out of the 5 that is available. Each portion of cheese is rather little, would rather you order buffet as you would have to keep topping up the cheese almost every 10-15 min or so. Ladyboy cheese tasted better than the Salted Egg cheese which had a bit of chilli(?)in it, which was kinda weird for me. Would rather it be just plain Salted Egg Cheese. Truffle Cheese was also mentioned that it is no longer available with no prior notice on their Facebook or whatsoever. After the food came, we realized that there is a couple of items that were missing from what we’ve ordered. And was only told that certain items are out of stock after we tried to order them again. Rice came with some brown-ish, thing on the bottom of the rice bowl.. So we didn’t ate any of that. Quail Egg tasted spoiled, so we ditch 2 plates of it. The Sotong Ball tasted so salty, bitter and sour, all at the same time, that we stopped eating after trying 1 of it. The other items were so-so, not fresh or tasty. Some are really inedible, I’m not even kidding. I think there are Mookatas out there that is way better than here honestly. For the price point that are a little higher than some others, it is totally not worth it to come to this mookata store. Went there with high expectation, but left with rather unhappy experience. Videos and pictures on here and online made things look rather appealing but food quality were from being tasty. However, staff seems rather nice and helpful but I guess that’s about it. Would never patronize here ever again.

A very nice place for a good catchup/gathering as the staff are not only helpful but also the food were all served freshly to your table and the waiting time is minimal. Most of of their meat are also marinated, so for those who are afraid of some of the strong smell of meat like me, must give it a try. They have so much variety of food choices not only for BBQ but also for steamboat. So, what are you waiting for if you want to have a place that is cheap and affordable (No GST nor Service charge) and you can LITERALLY eat ALL YOU WANT?

Great service and fresh ingredients! Signature chicken was tasty and well worth it's moniker. Wished that the shabu shabu beef was sliced more thinly and with more marbling as it was almost the same thickness as the bbq beef. Well worth the price! Thumbs up!

Food was great, service was excellent! A very friendly mookata joint, and the cheese gave a kick to the traditional Thai mookata. Definitely enjoyable and worth a try, again and again and again! Karen Lim

Personal favourite - Ladyboy chicken and pork. Marination is just nice for me, not too salty like those you will get very thirsty after eating. - Enoki wrap bacon. Bacon bbq to crisps, a little salty, but neutralises when eat together with enoki. - Salted egg cheese dip and Ladyboy cheese dip are the MUST TRY!! - Tom yum soup in mini hot pot. Will definitely visit again!

Well marinated meat at great prices! What really made our visit was the exceptional service from the staff. They took care of us real proactively - used plates were regularly cleared, hotpot broth refilled without asking & checking in with us that everything was good. Especially appreciated the bag storage area provided to every table for a clean place to stow our bags. The food was already great, and the thoughtful & stellar service pushed you guys beyond 5 star territory. Will definitely be back :)

My first visit and I must say I'm pretty impressed with the food variety with free flow drinks for the price of $29.90 on a weekday. There's lamb shanks, scallop, fresh crayfish, salted egg cheese and so many more! The food taste yummylicious! Overall good experience was topped off with friendly staff and prompt service too! Absolutely worth going, will definitely visit again!

Love their marinated ladyboy meat as it was tender and good!!! The food was delicious and well marinated Single pot Tomyum soup was just nice for me to finish it (drink it while it's still hot) and it has an unique taste which I don't get to taste it in Thailand. Ladyboy cheese was the best choice especially go with the egg, making it a wonderful taste!!! Nearly give a miss after I read the reviews and it did not make me regret to go for it Friendly staff and the cook was from Thai (believe she's pregnant) Keep it up and provide more speciality for us
