Review D'good Cafe - Singapore

Uninspiring and expensive. This is a case of everything a food establishment shouldn’t be. A shop with food that possesses a keen sense of deception in looks way palatable than it taste. So where do we start. Salted egg pasta has no salty tastes and overtly filling. Soft shell crab is bland. Portobello mushroom is cold. (There are hardly worse sins) Saving grace is the excellent service. If only service can be eaten. Maybe I missed the warning on the wall. After all, they did warn you that they are a D graded cafe.

Came over for dinner and there's no queue even though the restaurant was full when we were there. The ambience was good and the place was beautiful. We were given the seat with the swing and that's a plus. The menu variety was quite good and best for me was that they served a variety of coffee. Another plus point for them. Service was professional and efficient. Plus, the server came twice to top up our water. However the food was a major letdown to the overall experience and that affected the value for money. We ordered their cafe latte, maple syrup salt latte, mummy's fried mee hoon and the battered cod fish and chips. First, the coffee served was lukewarm and the coffee was not as flavorful as expected. The milk was not velvety enough too. The cod fish were still okay and their fries were surprisingly hard even when they went cold. The mee hoon was filled with burnt garlic and that gave a bitter aftertaste to the whole dish. Then portion of the bee hoon was overly salty and the barbecued prawns were too charred and that caused it to taste bitter too. Overall, a 3 star rating for me as the food and beverage were quite disappointing. Probably I was expecting too much from them based on the reviews. As, it ended up with a major letdown.

Heard a lot about this place but never tried until today’s visit to their outlet at Jewel. This review is purely based on the 2 items that I tried- Piccolo Latte and their special Maple Salted Caramel Cheesecake. Piccolo Latte was made from their own roasted Hebrews blend. I would say medium roasted, producing a smooth and chocolatey espresso. Cheesecake was exceptional. Well flavoured and not too sweet.

The lobster croissant is waaay better than burger and lobster. Anyway the food here is surprisingly good but is a little on the high side for what you are getting. The food here tends to be a little on the bland side but it's fine with me as you will not feel surfeited after trying several dishes. The coffee served is very good and the cold brew is very very strong. You also need to try the Little Nyonya, this is a very nice amalgamation of several local desserts (pulut hitam, kaya and gula melaka) into a modern interpretation of a western desert which is surpsingly not too sweet.

We queued for soooo long to get in. Again it's our fault for choosing to follow crowd and dine at crowded restaurants haha. D good cafe promotes olden day Singapore coffee with a coffee museum at the back of the restaurant however they don't serve traditional kopi. Maybe they have a good reason which we dont know. But anyways the coffee is mediocre. We had sea salt caramel latte, couldnt taste the sea salt but definitely knew that the caramel was there. Flat white, latte, cappuccino were slightly under average, drinkable nonetheless. Food: very instagrammable, pretty plating but again were a miss when it comes to taste. Salted egg crab pasta: Pasta was also overcooked, this is the biggest mistake for any pasta dish. Appreciate generosity of large crab chunks however would have been better if the crab meat were seasoned. Not that it was unfresh, the crab meat didn't seem to blend in with the pasta sauce. Can see from picture that the crab meat is fresh and white but unseasoned. American breakfast: well this usually can't go wrong unless chef picking ingredients didnt taste test ingredients beforehand. I'm referring to the sausage in this case. It tasted horrible, smelly meat taste and I think it wasn't cooked thoroughly. BUT we didnt say anything to the waiting staff cos we waited for this dish the longest, plus the ground staff are really friendly and nice so we didnt wanna trouble them, espeically with inpatient customers all over the ground, they seemee stressed enough. But really the sausage is a nightmare to remember. Nasi lemak: presentation 100%. Taste 30%. Chef tried to be creative but I think focus for nasi lemak shld be the rice. Similar to pasta, if pasta overcooked the dish is 50% gone. If nasi lemak nasi not fragrant, the dish is 50%, gone. No matter how you try to salvage it with creativity, modernising, it cannot be saved. Worth to mention is the otah is pretty good, fragrant and spiciness on point. And that's about it. Onion rings: this one, they got it right.

Review on 10 August,5pm visit at Jewel’s branch. 1. Poor service as the staff did not mention that most of the dishes were unavailable until we were seated and wanted to take our order. They also served our dishes to the wrong table twice. 2. I thought of giving it a try after hearing recommendations from my friends but I’m very disappointed by the service. To be fair, the pancakes were quite decent. But overall, we did not enjoy our experience there.

Ambience - Good decor and nice private space between tables. 👍🏼 Service - Enthusiastic staff and good explanations of the menu. However Food sequence were not in order, we have some of our main courses before the appetisers. We asked for the sofa seat but it was reserved but when the customers came shortly after us and decided to sit elsewhere, it would be a nice touch if we were offered to change our seat. Food - Laksa pasta - must try Nasi lemak - too dry for our liking. Chili is a key part of it but was to bland Bacon carbonara - overly cheesy Mushroom soup - rich Lobster soup - flavourful Pancake - Super and fluffy Overall food serving on the large side Bible verse on the wall - prefer my restaurant to keep religion beliefs to themselves. In summary - will we come again? Probably yes for the pancake and laksa and to try their other food and selection of beverages.

Very nice presentation, hipster version local food. But taste wise really below expectation... I was attracted by the sign used: "Singapore Coffee Museum" and decided to check out this place, but the coffee is terrible! It's handcraft coffee but taste worse than auto coffee machine. Lesson learned, must always check the review before visiting a cafe or restaurant
