Review Shabu Sai - Singapore

Yustinus Albert
Today we try shabu-shabu at shabu sai.. first time we came, we already confused how to order at this place..After we familiar how to do, then is really easy. Technically this restaurant asking you to choose 2 based soup first and you choose the meat, vegie and drink. Drink is not refill i think and need to pay 1 dollar/person. Package soup with first choose of ingredients is 42 dollar(technically u can refill 2 times if you like and only beef you need to top up 2 dollar and you will get unlimited beef, depending on your stomach(recommended). All ingredients is fresh and the taste is good for me especially for the beef due to unlimited^^..They give you max 1 hour inside(flexible). After 1 hour they not allow you to add more ingredients again. If you waste your foods, you will get charged around 5 dollar/100gram. Concept from this restaurant is also semi digital using robot to help the waiters..Is really fun eating in this place..I will come back again for sure..please Keep the good momentum ya

Standards have been dwindling steadily at Shabu Sai, and gone are the days where they have excellent variety of sauces and side ingredients. Furthermore, they now charge a premium for upgrade to (low quality) beef, when it used to be part of the standard buffet package.

Numbers of sides dishes is limited. Less than before, (2021) maybe reduced. We enjoy the time there, having Japanese style Hot pot buffet.

Price seems cheap at first but what they offer is ridiculously simple with cheap veg and ridiculously thin slices of pork. Need to upgrade to get beef and wagyu which is fine. But seafood and fish is extra again. Drinks and dessert extra cost too. The second round we asked for mushroom and fish ball and was given way too much mushroom and ONE fishball. Soup base is not nice. Taste weird and too much msg. Miso tomyum soup base has a very weird sour taste. It has a Japanese name BUT nothing Japanese about it. It’s embarrassing. I didn’t enjoy it at all and the price we paid is way too high for this lousy quality.

After COVID reopened, business got better but I was surprised that food variety has come down quite a bit. No cheese tofu for eg, and types of balls just reduced drastically. Also, there’s now a charge for unlimited beef, that’s new! Overall, it works out to $29 nett per person include drinks (no more water only option) so my conclusion is that you could be better off at some other China hot pot places.

Back to buffet style! Food quality is as good as before, missed all the variety of sauces they provide. Great service and great good = great experience!

the meat were all very oily and i wasnt being told the time limit, they only say it 5min before and expect me to finish everything on table or else there will be a fine. really not recommend, poor service and bad food.

Overall = Good. I left out 1 Star due to the Soup Quality is AVERAGE. Or you can call it BLAND. However some of the Condiments are Good. You get to choose. Well if you want cold beverages, you got to top up alittle bit more. Especially like if you want Prawns and you got to pay extra more. Well, the meat is lean type be it chicken or the pork. And it is SLICE till very Thin :-( Anyway, for this type of affordable pricing, i got nothing to fuss at. Well if the soup base quality is very important, then i do not recommend this. Got budget, then go for it. Ultimately the chicken/pork is unlimited order. My this review is for December 2020. Finally Weekday Lunch Time Limit is 70 Mins of time to dine there :-)
