Review Akimitsu - Singapore

It was a Sunday afternoon, during lunch time and I was expecting a bit of waiting time. Seeing more than half of the tables were already taken. But it was alright and we were just so glad that service were prompt and waiting time was between 5-10min before the tendon were served. Meanwhile we had the steamed egg that came with the set. Been to this outlets several times and not once did they failed to get them properly cooked. It was thinly coated and crisp to the last bite. At times, I know consistency can be challenging and I really hope whoever from the company is reading these reviews can gather your kitchen crew and let them know how they had done. Let them know when they had done well and also when improvement can be made(when spotted less than the supposed standards). People who knows this chain of restaurants probably know it is awards winning and 4th generation(in Japan). I am very pleased each time I get to eat here. Though it cannot be said the same for the rest of their outlets. So far, I had been to three of their outlets. Still, this one would be my pick! Thank you for cooking our food and served up as quickly as you could. We know it was a busy afternoon during lunch hours.

Ordered the signature tendon and mix tempura set. The serving is quite a lot for 1 person. Indeed value for money. Each bite was crunchy and savoury. If you order the mix tempura set, it comes with pepper and matcha salt on the side as well.

Saw an impressive Akimitsu display banner and decided to have an early dinner there as I missed Asakusa. Only 2-3 tabkes were occupied at about 5pm. My first and most likely my only visit to this brand restaurant. Ordered their signature set on page 1 of their menu. Presentation of food : quite nicely presented. Value for money: not too bad (The set came with pickled vegetables and Steamed egg). Food: batter for the tempura was thick for me, not light nor airy. Quality of prawn and fish was so-so. Steamed egg was good. Staff service: quite attentive and professional.

Had an ok dining experience here recently. The food is a hit or miss, but the hits are great. While the Ramen was pretty mediocre, the Soft Shell Crab Tempura was absolutely fantastic. Some bites bursting with savoury crab roe. The Sliced Pork was average at best but the Ebi Tempura was easily the star of the plate. The desserts were pretty alright and not much to really talk about. Similar to the food situation, our experience with the staff was quite mixed with some being very friendly and the other a little bit unbothered. Can't really tell for now if I'd ever come back but I'd be interested to try their other tempura options considering how those were our favourites.

Went at around 6pm and queued close to 30 min. Need to go early to avoid crowd. Don and udon very good! The ramen soup tasted very diluted. Would definitely come back if I want a udon or curry quick fix.

portions are relatively generous for the price, tummy filler, that's about it. taste-wise is quite mediocre, sauce's paltry. 2 stars because i feel the ingredients were ok, but the tempura spoiled it, such a waste. My guess is wet batter and wrong flour used, they need better chefs

Disappointed how they cooked tempura. I’m sure Japan HQ foods & quality dept. has given specific instructions to each individual brunch management, but the quality of the tempura was pretty low. I’ve been to one of the Akimitsu in Japan. For example, green beans didn’t peel properly as you can see from my photo. In Japan, the outer tempura, “Koromo” wasn’t too thick, and they cooked well just right about fish inside. My mouth didn’t get hurt becoz the Koromo wasn’t too crispy and stiff like the one here. The staff in the restaurant was nice and gave appropriate services, but if you expect similar tempura quality, you would definitely be disappointed. The presentation on the plate of the tempura is perfect.

The tempura ingredients are perfectly battered and fried. But cashier/staff needs more training, he looked unhappy working there. I visited at an off peak hour (3:30pm on a weekday) so it was relatively quiet, with a few tables occupied. Miso soup below average (didn’t know miso soup can taste bad either lol). Price point a little higher than competitors. But winning factor of a return visit is how crispy the batter is, without the oily taste. 8/10. Oh, and it’ll be better if the outlet can serve more sauce on the side. I was practically eating dry tempura
