Review Gem Bar - Singapore

LUXURYASIA
Currently, in their 14th year of debauchery, GEM BAR is the biggest, noisiest, busiest bar at the intersection of Ann Siang Hill and Club Street, Singapore. You get great service, solid drinks, the best food around. Gem Bar’s newly launched street food, cocktails by the jugs, and Tsingtao beers by the tap. There are 13 exciting creations — seven choices of fried or mala broth-dipped skewers, two juicy burgers, and four sides. The menu also includes one international street food item that changes every three months. Start with a choice of staple skewers like Broccoli, Cauliflower, or King Mushrooms at SG$2 each. At SG$2.50 each, complete your collection of street food on a stick with the Bacon-wrapped Enoki or Asparagus skewers along with the Tomyum Beef Kebabs and Mini BBQ Pork Sausages. Their Chef-made sauces are so good you’d want to bring them home in a bottle. Wasabi Mayo; Thai Sweet Chilli; Goma Dressing, made with miso and sesame; and the taste-bud tingling Sambal Petis are all stellar The Gem-ly Burger, a highlight, is a twist on the iconic Ramly Burger. The special is served with Tom Yum beef patty and homemade truffle egg mayo between a soft Brioche bun. Have a mug or tower of Tsingtao beer at Gem Bar — one of the few bars in Singapore that serves the golden brew on tap. The only other country outside of China to serve Qingdao’s finest on tap is South Korea. It goes well with street food. Prefer a jug of cocktail? Serving four merrymakers per jug, sip on the 7 Sins of Yishun, Gem Bar’s twist on the Long Island Tea, or opt for a fruitier choice of Kyoho Sangaria. End your night with the spectacular Smoked Whisky Sour or the smooth but deceivingly easy-to-drink Soju Jinro Green, which comes in grape or strawberry flavor.

Nice cozy place for drinking sessions with friends. Servers are knowledgeable of the menu and are very efficient. Where else can you get the Seven Sins Of Yishun? Check this place out.

We visited Gem pub on Friday night, it's at a good location of Ann Siang Hill. Too bad most of the items in this bar are overpriced (eg. we paid $90++ just for some low quality satay) With these few items shown on the attached receipt they charged us $636 😅😓. If we ordered the similar items at wine connection or any pub at club street, at most is $450. All my mates said not to support this pub anymore in unison.

Jerryl the magician alone was well worth coming here, but the happy hour drinks are not too badly priced either. The music can be a bit loud outside so if you're sitting close to the entrance, you can't really hear conversations. Overall, good service, good bar and decent music.

Lovely signature cocktails. In the middle of the popular Club Street.

A lovely place on a weekend night especially. Tables will be in the streets, next to other trendy bars in Ann Siang. The atmosphere is therefore fantastic, European vibes. Cocktails were alright

Worst experience with the manager acting like a thug. thought to try it out on entertainer where they took the voucher and proceeded to tell us it wasn’t available and that we had to call to redeem it back ourselves. Called her on it then she put our preordered cocktails in a plastic cup to leave the bAr. She then tried to intimidate us by staring at us while we walked out with her “crew” while smoking.. very disgusting and disturbing. Do.not.go. Making a formal complaint since it’s pretty bad.

Visited on 6 July night. The indoor staff that served our table was such an arrogant person. When I requested for some water, she completely didn’t acknowledge my request at all(but served the water nonetheless, one glass short). Hope this is not how all customers are treated here.

Staffs are very friendly. Their burgers are nice. But my 2nd dish, the beef steak took too long. Waited for 20 mins then they served me the 2nd dish and what's funny is that there were not much customer on that day. Imagine how long my food would take if it's weekend? Very nice chilling place but the lightings a bit too dim, can't see my food haha.

Good drink deal (1 for 1) Monday, day when not too much else going on in the neighbourhood. Good to know if you are staying at the Scarlet Hotel, for example. *Update on Gem Bar - 2017* A revision down to 1 star has been made from 2016, when I gave it 4 stars. So we once again are in Singapore and as usual drop over to Club Street. We stop at Gem Bar for drinks again. Then, we ask for the bill. After seeing the amount, I trusted them with my credit card. And in an underhanded and slimy fashion they charged it it the currency of the issuing country, rather that the SGD shown on the bill. When I asked about this, the waitress blamed it on "the machine" and, incredibly, furthermore went and got additional bills - of others - who they had done this to in an effort to bolster their case in their deception. Both currencies are shown on the bills. Only SGD shows of course if that is the currency in which they charge you. But she thinks that people are stupid, and nevertheless maintained otherwise ... that we were being charged in SGD The frantic importunity with which she tried to pass this off as a "machine thing" betrays the fact that she knows full well that a much higher charge results to the customer as a result of their malfeasance. Underhanded and slimy!

We had been drinking for the whole night at your bar and upon exit at closing time, one of us had to use the bathroom. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT YOU DID NOT ALLOW US TO USE YOUR TOILET. The "reasons" given included a wet floor and that some transport was waiting neither of which explains why one of us could not use the toilet for two minutes. Just ridiculous. Never again.
