Review Double Durian - Singapore

Melvin Tang
Had lunch with my colleagues here. Great food at pretty good range in price. The durian smoothie is the bomb! Loved it. The crepe was lacking in the durian flavour and the crepe is very thick in my opinion. Service could be improved because even though service is charged, however most of the time im the one going to the counter to order the food, get the utensils etc, because the waitress and waiter at work dont seem to react even we waved to them except for getting food to us. Yeap. Will visit here soon!

I'm almost staunchly against vegetarian places because usually the food is not as good, but I like Double Durian a lot. Their durian drink / shake is great, with durian paste on top of ice blended durian, and their creamy mushroom pasta is delicious! Highly recommended (bring cash, they don't take card, maybe nets?). Water isn't free though, and chairs can be uncomfortable for longer visits. I'm definitely intrigued by their menu and will go back.

Double durian is tucked away in a peaceful area away from the cafe loving crowds who head for CSH. Almost next to the Jalan Besar stadium, it accessible both by car and on foot. Now a vegetarian cafe, the food is all meat-free. The atmosphere is almost rustic with wood-based furniture and decor. The select your own dishes menu allows you to indicate which dishes you want and then pass the order chit to the service staff. The nasi padang and nasi lemak were spot on with different chili sauces and ingredients. The food came to us served on quaint wooden plates. The desserts were wonderful with the durian-themed cakes bursting with durian puree. All in all a pleasant experience and worth a repeat visit.

Their main courses are yummy. Durian dessert wise the outer green part is made from cream, we cannot finish due to too creamy but the inner yellow durian portion is great, we love it.

Easy to locate the restaurant. Just use google map 😄. Went there around 12pm. Service is good, albeit i must ask how to order. Ordered the Vegetarian fried chicken nasi padang and Mushroom rendang nasi lemak. Both are quite tasteful. Sambal is delicious and slightly hot. Then proceed to order the durian crepe cake. It is very delicious. Every alternate layer of the crepe is filled with durian paste. Yummy. Price wise is slightly higher than the usual vegetarian fare. Will definitely return to try other dishes.

I'm happy to be recommended to Double Durian by my friend! The menu was uniquely local with favourites such as nasi lemak and nasi Padang served. Double Durian drink is a must try! Fruit Rojak was filled with crunchingly fresh fruits. Thumbs up to Double Durian for creating delectable vegetarian dishes to suit local palettes and non-vegetarian patrons.

Have been there multiple times for vegetarian food. Tried sambal fish rice, chicken rice, protein hot pot with herbal soup and nasi mutton rendang. These non veg dishes only sound non veg but they're made of some vegetarian food.

Food is pretty good, pricing ok.. Nasi Padang and Nasi Lemak is v filling.. Can get crowded from 7plus onwards.. Reservation recommended, can reserve on chope to earn chope dollars.. Service a little disappointing though, 7 adults ordered, sis in law's order came in after multiple changes. First ordered orh luak, was told need to wait 30min, so changed to nasi lemak, after 10+min, came back to inform nasi lemak rice ran out, got to wait another 30min for nasi lemak rice to cook.. Changed to pasta.. Waited till everyone done with food but her order wasnt here yet.. Went to check on her order and was told not cooked yet, so we asked if can change to nasi lemak since the rice is ready.. Waited for awhile more and saw adjacent table who came really late alrdy had their pasta served😅😅 Really better to have early dinner or maybe avoid sunday..

Just ate here today for lunch that ends at 3. The Lunch Set Menu has such variety, i counted at least 8 different dishes, largely western classics like pork ribs to salted egg chicken chops to pasta and to even a salmon fish and chips. Guess what? Most of these dishes are 8.80 and highest at 11.80? I mean Pork Ribs for 11.80? What a Steal no joke. And what's even better is that it comes with a drink, not just one standard ice tea or soft drink, but a whole variety of teas ranging from peppermint to longan, that are in-housemade?! Really unbelievable. I got a BBQ chicken chop that came with fries and a salad. Each element was substantial and well done. In particular, the chicken was well grilled, and very well marinated. the fries, almost tasted like they were double fried. The salad, nothing to shout about, though is decent, liked the purple cabbage which gave a hint of bitterness to the otherwise sweet and tangy dish. Service was also great, attentive staff. All round good deal and good food! Although I haven't had what they are famous for: the ying yang durian, or the mills crepe (gonna try it right after this review).

Just had one of the best honey ribs in recent times! At Double Durian along Hamilton Rd next to Jalan Besar Stadium. Also tried their ice cream made from real durians (on the spot)! Doesn't have the overwhelming sweet taste of typical durian ice cream. And their durian smoothie is.... beyond words. Held in customised glasses, I savoured it like a cup of gourmet coffee. A must-try! Thanks Jowell Chia for the wonderful experience. Will b back! PS: The durians we bought upon leaving? My mother:in-law says she has not had such good durians for a long time! Sweet with slight bitterness, n v small flat seeds.

I was thrilled to be invited for a food tasting session as a restaurant that serves durians was a novelty to me. I had a couple of seeds of durian as appetizer, they were great and as good as (some said even better than) those served at the popular street stalls of Geylang. Followed by a Main Course of their signature Pork Tower, of which pork ribs were sophisticatedly prepared and cooked to perfection, and I loved how they were balanced with the purple-flesh Japanese sweet potato and salad sides. The happy ending was a dessert of Durian smoothie, not only it tasted so good but it was served in a glass uniquely moulded with a wood base. Coming from an architectural background, I would say the interior design and the furniture were nicely setup suitable for any occasions. It is truly a good place to hang out.

We visited Double Durian three times! The chef owner cooked for us outside the menu card! It was fantastic! The bbq durian prepared in three ways left an unforgettable taste and experience! Thanks Double Durian. Durian lovers from Holland!

Great place for great western food and durian varieties. Honey ribs is out of the world and MSW quality is consistent and simply amazing.

Had the steak today and tried their pork ribs. Both were fantastic. The medium rare steak that I ordered had a crusty, slightly burnt exterior and a perfectly juicy inside... perfect! While baked/bbq durians aren’t my kinda thing, these guys can certainly cook up a pretty good meal. Kudos to the Chef. Will go back there again for sure.

Tried the Durian Smoothie. Creamy n awesome. If you are from western country and heard about the aweful smell of Durian ( most Asian love it dearly though) and had been hesitating to try the King of Fruit - Durian. Please start as an armature by trying their Durian Smoothie. That will kick start you to love the King of Fruit...

Hello, I’m a little disappointed with the portion of the baked durians. I did not check before I left the shop. When I reached home, I realised that not all 4 seeds were normal sized. Instead two of the them are really really tiny ones. Im really disappointed as I tot it would be 4 of those normal sized seeds as I tot it would be like those picture on the internet. I’m sure any other customer who receive those tiny seeds will be disappointed too. Your baked durians are actually really good! Just that I’m really disappointed as it’s like 2 normal size + 2 tiny size seeds is equivalent to 2 seeds for $15 haha. Thank you! I hope that you would see this and get back to me thanks!
