Review Sin Heng Kee Porridge - Singapore

DR GOH PENG YANG DAVY
This is the famous porridge in Hougang. When I first visited this stall, close to 20 years ago. There was only this outlet. Therefore, this outlet could be considered the main branch. A wide variety of porridge available for sales, you would be amazed by the types of porridge available. This was still the place to go for a decent bowl of porridge. The porridge seemed to be on the salty side. The missing star was because the standard and quality of porridge dropped significantly compared to when I first tried it.

27/3/2022 sunday lunch 12pm+ TLDR: long wait time, but worth for the fragrant, delicious pork porridge! Staff very friendly and trying their best to help you. only 2 pax allowed. If you come with 3 or 4 people, will be separated to different tables. Very limited seating, encouraged to do takeaway. If you dine in, staff will tell you to queue up and order first (10 minutes). Then you stand around and wait for a free table(s) (another 20 minutes). So waiting time is quite long. If you takeaway, you order and wait in designated chairs with like 15 others and wait for your number to be called. Onto the food! šŸ²ā˜• Very fragrant pork. Delicious pork innards and meat, paired with nice thick congee/porridge. A sprinkle of green onions, fried onions, paired with a hot fried cripsy you tiao ($1.50 i think). Served piping hot even in takeaway/food delivery, so dont be afraid to takeaway! Well worth the wait. The menu has other stuff like fish porridge, frog legs, worth trying! The drinks are cheap and yummy but a bit small cup for hot drinks. Now a little bit of history on the 2 pax: the restuarant tried to apply for 5 pax but failed, so forced to do 2 pax. By 29 mar may change but nothing confirmed yet. Last time they solely do takeaway during CB and was really successful. Now they put in limited seating for dine-in, is not really worth for them LOL we dine-in also need to self-return trays and need wait long long for tables. Better to dabao, the staff tell us.

Came at 7.53am on a Sunday, and there was already a queue. Thereā€™s always a queue. Waited for about 40 mins but it was worth every minute. Plenty of ingredients in each bowl and the portionā€™s really generous! Meat was tender and the pork balls were so flavourful. I donā€™t usually like porridge but this might be the best porridge Iā€™ve eaten. It can be a bit salty though so ask for less salt! If you donā€™t know what to get just get their signature bowl ($6) and it comes with everything - cuttlefish, fish slices, pork balls, pork, intestines, century egg. My fave is still the century egg with pork ($4.50) YUMMMMMMY. Update 4 Jan 2022: I don't know what they put in this porridge, but I'm hooked and if I could I would review this a thousand times. Since the review above 5 months ago, I've been a regular - I have this almost weekly to satisfy my almost-daily craving. A tip is to order this on grab for pick up ($6 for a bowl of century egg with pork porridge (+additional pork) after 25% off grab voucher) so you won't have to stand in line to wait.

Best porridge place you can find in Singapore. You just know it is when thereā€™s like a never ending queue of people waiting to eat the food here. Thereā€™s lots of different types of porridge to choose from, from fish slices or pork to their signature version (with pork liver, meatball and century egg). You can add egg also if you like. I always order dough fritters (aka youtiao) to go along with the porridge. Most of the time itā€™s really crispy. I find it very flavourful, portion also great at making you full. Itā€™s like the go to dish to have for breakfast or if you donā€™t feel like having rice or noodles for lunch. Be sure to try the simpler versions and not the fancier ones (I think thereā€™s an abalone one too). Porridge is meant to be simple fare, donā€™t need to eat fancy versions.

This is hands down my favourite porridge spot. Their signature porridge is a must try - filled with a variety of ingredients and served piping hot. But you will need to be prepared to queue, takeaway food took 35 mins on a weekday afternoon. To me, itā€™s so worth the wait.

Porridge here is not Cantonese/HK style in my experience. However, taste was also good. Texture was thick, big pieces of rice. Lot of meats. I personally like double pork and pork stomach porridge. Meat was marinated very well.

This porridge restaurant is highly recommended. The high rating by so many people for this restaurant is justifiable. I tried the following: 1. Signature porridge (contains all ingredients except egg) 2. Century egg lean meat porridge 3. Fried dough fritter (youtiao) The porridge is the thick kind, and it is really really tasty. Do note that the porridge here does not have have egg. You need to add on 50 cent for the egg, but totally worth it. Dine in ordering system: 1. Get the number from one of the workers 2. Get seated like you are waiting for vaccination (usually got queue) 3. Once they call your number, you may proceed to the seat 4. Take your assigned number badge and proceed to queue to order for porridge and youtiao only 5. They will send the food to your table 6. For drinks, you need to order at the separate counter and pick them up yourself The staff are very friendly, and the experience makes the nice food even nicer.

Located in Hougang. This stall has one of the better porridge around. Fits everything nicely in a bowl. Long q but worth the wait.

Hougang branch - this place do serve nice porridge. However this will be the first and last time I will be patronising this store due to extreme poor attitude from the staffs. I requested for some dry chilli and the staff asked me to take it from the container which contained the chilli and soy sauce. I did ask why I canā€™t have some of the dry chilli, they simply refuse to give. one female staff took the remaining dry chilli and dump it into the container that contained the soy sauce and said: na, take your dry chilli from it! The act of doing so is simply demeaning.

This shop has nice porridge that is why i travelled to ease my craving but the staff there usually rude as if that they are well popular and don't mind to loose a customer. Just went to have their signature porridge this afternoon and found hair in it. Told the staff and they give me that look that this from my little boy. I just go off without saying a word and behind I heard them saying :"she left liao don't need to compensate!" Wonder what kind of service line they are in or the brand name will never die off with staff bad attitude???

Snobbish and curt lady at the cashier. Rude waiting staff. This porridge is over-rated. I even found hair in my bowl of porridge. Ask them to make a new one, they said it is my own hair because it is not curly! Sorry, guys do not have long straight hair! Never coming back again! Unhygienic stall!

Their customer service is so bad the first time we were there that I don't ever want to go back and patronize them. Doesn't matter their porridge taste heavenly. I can find delicious porridge elsewhere with good customer service.

Super delicious porridge! Texture, taste, and temperature all done perfectly ļæ½ļæ½ Just remember that if you want your porridge with egg, you have to add it separately; the standard bowl comes without egg. Was here during off peak hours and the wait was not long at all. Love this place!
