Review Putien - Singapore

Sushiliah Devi
I had lunch at Putien in Orchard. The ambiance was good but you have to wait for your turn. The Bee Hoon I had was so fine and delicious. They added cockles and mussels and prawns which made the dish worth while for the price. It also comes with side dishes but you have to pay for it. I enjoyed my meal and I’m sure you will too. There are other signature dishes which I have attached. 😊

Went there for pre CNY dinner and ordered the set menu. I guessed just like most places, food quality tends to be poorer for reunion dinner since it was a very hectic evening. We went for 4pm shift and the servers had to all ensure everyone finishes our meal by 515pm. That said, i find the quality here at Putien Ion this year is not too bad. Maybe need to go again during normal time in order to better assess their food quality.

The food was great! Highly recommend the ice bitter gourd as an appetizer! it’s perfect for a hot day! Service was good and the servers were very friendly!

The food is excellent. Ambience is great. Service is tip top especially the waiter Chin Yeng who is very friendly and service orientated. My mom is very happy on her birthday dinner.

Great place to grab some regional chinese food. Good selections on the menu including soup, appetizer, etc. Great chili sauce! Could get busy at meal time.

Went for CNY lunch. Food was good but the surcharge and additional costs were very high. The 4 pax set for $150 ended up to be $367 only because of change of the pork trotter to roast chicken.

Visited putien last evening and was disappointed with the terrible service. We were seated in one of the private rooms and were served by this trainee staff. She was oblivious with her surroundings and was rude. When serving the dishes, if she want us to make way for her, she could have said something like “excuse me” or at least made some sound. We would definitely move, but instead, on many occasions, she came quietly behind us and either pushed us aside with her hips or leaned on us. She also spilled water on one of us. She forgot some of our orders and even told us repeatedly to cancel our dessert even after we insisted that we want it. Because of her persistence we cancelled all but one of the dessert. It is weird that when she served that dessert we insisted we want, she told us “this dessert is very hard to make, i told you to cancel but you still want it”. We figured that she probably did not order it as it wasnt reflected on the paper. If that is the case, we will appreciate and understand if she apologised instead of trying to make us cancel it. Our beancurd was also only served after she cleared our table (she told us that there was no more dishes left only to find out after another staff came and serve us the beancurd). Again, did not apologise but say something along the line to the other staff like “i thought no more??” Or “still have???”. She was quite irrelevant too. On one instance when we said we want the large portion, she replied that the medium portion is too small for us. ???? Its also a bit strange that our hot tea was served in individual glass cups. We had to wait quite a bit for the staff to refill our teas because we were refused teapots on our table. An overall very awkward experience. Would probably come back again because of the food but please train the trainees or partner them up with someone experienced before leaving them all alone.

Putien region is also known for clams and here at Putien restaurant they have a promo going on for clams. The clams are a little like bamboo clams and are done in 9 diff styles. We have tried the garlic steamed clams and if you have been to Putien the chilli is like a very versatile condiment and certainly with the clams. The clams are fat and juicy and flavourful. My other order dish is the yellow croaker fish. The 100sec steamed yellow croaker is one of my faves and they use yellow croaker specific to NingDe, home to the large yellow croaker. You can also try the deep fried yellow croaker where you can even eat the bones literally the whole fish. So in the pics, one of them is the friend yellow croaker.
