Review Suki-ya - Singapore

Went to this place for dinner with my date. The food was great and I ate till I was full. Service was good for the lady and guy wearing black as they remembered our order and type of soup based to top up. However, a guy in orange served us ice cream when we are not done eating and the flavour was not what we requested. We requested green tea flavoured but got coconut and chocolate chip instead. Nonetheless, dinner was good.

Sukiya is a go-to place to satisfy shabu shabu cravings. The food is decent and it was not as crowded as we had lunch during an off-peak timing. Ordered the sukiyaki and tomato soup. The tomato soup was a little bland but there is more flavour with more ingredients added. Overall, the place has met expectations.

I don't normally write poor reviews but had to comment here. Possibly the lowest rung of air-conditioned culinary offerings in the country. The meat selections range from shoe-sole rubber to slices of pure fat with a sliver of meat to justify the name. Soup bases are decent enough. Decor is levels above the food (so don't be fooled by the looks from the outside!). I guess the all-you-can eat concept is the only reason to come here, but you'd have to be fresh from a desert island to truly appreciate.

The food and price are ok. However, the staff attitude is a big issue. Understand that they are busy during Friday dinner time, but it’s not right to transfer their emotion to the customer. The vibe that the staffs bring to us make us feel very uncomfortable. One of the example: My friend went to the sauce bar to help us get a small bowl of spring onion which we shared to eat. The staff shout at him said he cannot take that much because they need to prepare a lot if we take a lot. Understand that this is an eat all you can buffet. And we never waste any food, we finish all what we took. And we make sure we didn’t take all and leave a lot for the other customers. We don’t understand why the staff need to say all these. I hope the management can look into the issue of staff emotion and attitude. If manpower is an issue, just hire more staff during busy period.

The best hot pot place in Singapore. Price also reasonable and good service! Will surely come back!

We were not told of 80 minutes limited dining time when we entered. We were seated at the front but during dining, twice we had to prompt to clear empty trays and plates even though we came across at least 4 staff walking past at different times,; at our first request for soup top up as no staff bothered to check if we were running low on soup, we were told by one of the male staff that our dining time will be up soon, and he repeated that the 2nd time in less than 10 minutes when we requested for reorder of the food items. Unpleasant experience and inconsiderate of him. Well, we had to wait to get their attention to top up our soups and respond to our reorder which took up extra time. .. well,if he was that bothered , he and his colleagues should be more efficient in their service right from the beginning.

It's ok - affordable for hotpot but soups are quite salty and ingredients don't taste that great. I would avoid the chicken but their pork is alright.

one of my favourite places to dine! the sukiyaki broth is really flavourful and goes well with every ingredient! quality of cheesetofu and pork shabu seems to have dropped a little, but still okay.. dipping sauces could be better x(
