I asked a chef why eateries like this can close down. The chef told me either the setup or the food is bad. Successful eateries usually use expert advice to design the shop and optimize the sits. Manpower can easily be provided by an employment agency. The moment I walked in I know their setup is horrible. The first thing I noticed is the ugly and unclear menu, dirty spoons/chopsticks, chipped bowls, and moldy roof. There’s aircon but was warm and humid due to the boiling soup. The chef was sweating and wasn’t wearing cooking face mask nor hair net and customers are pointing over the counter at uncooked food and chatting loudly to the chef inches away from the boiling soup. They use the kitchen as storage and ⅕ of the shop space for cooking and payment. They would be better off cooking in the kitchen and use a self-service POS with a queue system to optimize available sits. Paid $9.90 for a bowl of mix beef noodle that tastes similar to any available in a food court, but their soup is definitely slightly better than others. In conclusion, Hock Lam should just open in a food court. Some food court chains do provide advice and manpower. All the best.

Delicious beef noodle. I ordered the mix beef bowl and it was good. The tendons was very soft and was like eating jelly. The ordering process was very fast and so was the preparation.

Flavourful soup, generous servings of beef, smooth silky noodles. Not giving 5 stars only because of the (lack of) service - the staff there makes no attempt to be approachable or warm.

Amongst the hype of closing down, gave it a try.
Disappointed that the quantity of beef does not justify the price tag. Beef noodles elsewhere, such as Kovan is on-par, if not, better at that price point.
Goodbye Hock Lam Beef.

GOOD BUY! the amount of noodle is just nice. Bought the mixed tendon and beef. The proprietor was sweet! Asked for more soup and readily obliged. DOWNSIDE: Soup tastes somewhat salty. All in all Great Comfort food!

It's unfortunately not as good as it was before at purvis street. I think it's better if they open it in a shophouse instead of a mall. It was crowded when I tried so the taste maybe not as good. Still sad its closing down.
Tried one last time and again unfortunately it's not good at all.

Just order the noodles. The veggies were mostly stems and were old, while the spring rolls just brought the whole meal down. L
