Review Bumbu Restaurant - Singapore

I love this place because it serves one of the best Tom yum in SG. Their peranakan dish buah keluak is a unique experience... The content of the fruit is best eaten with the Ayam. The udang asam is lovely but a bit on the pricey side. Been here several times. The food is generally delicious but the Tom yum is my favourite.

Was randomly browsing for restaurants to try in the area when we came across Bumbu. Food Based on the reviews, two dishes were greatly raved: (1) Fried Kang Kong Salad and (2) Beef Rendang. We included those in our order alongside the Clear Seafood Tomyum Soup and Tahu Telor with a bowl of rice to share. Unfortunately the Beef Rendang wasn't available, so we opted for the Green Curry Chicken instead. 1. Fried Kangkong Salad This was the highlight of our meal! It honestly tasted like potato chips, and it came with bits of meat and prawn which was a refreshing combination with the sauce. 2. Clear Tomyum Soup It's unlike the typical clear tomyum soup. Rather than spicy, it was more savoury and aromatic. Could be due to it being Thai-Indonesian style. It was full of ingredients with fish slices, prawns, and shellfish. Fresh prawns were used. However, it was a little too salty for our liking. 3. Tahu Telor I quite like this dish. It's a sweeter dish with egg tofu (note: not beancurd) with generous serving of fried egg floss. 4. Green Curry Chicken Similar to the clear tomyum soup, it was atypical with a strong taste of coconut milk and thinner. Not my personal favourite although my companion quite enjoyed it. Drinks We had the Thai Milk Tea and Ice Blended Avocado. They were ok. For the latter, the taste of avocado and gula melaka syrup was distinct. Service Staffs were friendly and welcoming. Ambience Comfortable and homey. The decor was interesting. It wasn't crowded at all during a Saturday lunch. All in all, we will be back to try other dishes on the menu! Do note that the portions are generous, so be careful not to over-order like we did.

Stepping into the store was an experience because of the unusual furniture collection and decor. There is comfortable seating with privacy for each table. The table where we sat was made from old sewing machine leg, while the tabletop featured peacock tiles as design. It felt like an alternate universe away from Singapore. Menu is an eclectic mix of Peranakan, Thai, Indonesian and Chinese dishes such as Beef rendang, Ayam buah keluah, Tom yum soup, tauhu teloh, sambal kangkong, fish maw soup. Taste is authentic and hearty. Fish maw soup came with shiitake, chicken, dried scallop, with texture of sharks fin soup. Beef rendang and ayam buah keluah were both delicious.

A HDB neighbourhood restaurant in Blk 4 Queen's Road (in Farrer, Singapore), serving a selection of Thai, Indonesian, and Peranakan/Nyonya dishes. The ngoh hiang is so good!!! So is the beef rendang and the butter oat soft shell crab. The tom yum seafood has the right balance of spiciness and milky coconut. And the cendol has the reputation of being one of the best in Singapore. Thick, rich coconut milk and generous helping of gula melaka!

Very nice food, great service & interesting decor. I love the rendang. The $10 takeaway promo bento set is good too. The drinks are pricey.

Great meal! We ordered the crispy kangkong salad, green curry chicken, and tahu telur. All dishes competently executed but the outstanding winner has got to be the crispy kangkong salad. Portion size for each dish is also huge. One portion easily feeds 3-4 pax. Service was also 👍! It's a pity that their menu is catered more towards family dining so the max. 2 dine-in restrictions must be hurting them.

Yummy food. It’s located underneath a HDB block and within walking distance from Farrer Road MRT station. There weren’t much customers when my family visited at 1+ pm (do note their opening hours, there’s a break within the day). We munched on the crackers ($2) and shortly after, the food was served. Kangkong salad - saw someone recommending this. The Kangkong is deep fried into a crisp vegetable and served in a savoury tangy and mildly spicy Thai style sauce (I think there’s minced meat, lemongrass, shallot, onion and lime in there) Rendang - flavourful and tender but it doesn’t disintegrate, I like their version Coffee flavour chicken - this is totally a Singapore style thing, haha. Very strong coffee flavour, gets jelak after a while cos of how rich the savoury sauce is. Nevertheless, still yummy. A pity that we were too full to eat the cendol after that. It looks good from other people’s review.

First time trying this restaurant eventhough I live 2 blocks away. The beef rendang was excellent, really tender and tasty. The Tom yam soup was also great. The kangkong and green curry were also good. The chendol could do with less coconut milk and more red beans. Interesting decor and great service too. Definitely worth a repeat visit

Bumbu is a halal Peranakan restaurant next to Farrer Road station. The beautiful restaurant features a simple and rustic interior which resembles the traditional houses of the Peranakan community in Singapore. The menu offers some authentic Peranakan dishes.

Peranakan cuisine originates from the descents of early Chinese migrants who marry with local Malays and combines a wide range of influences in their dishes including spices and cooking techniques. Peranakan is the de-facto cuisine in Singapore with most food tangy, aromatic, spicy and herbal. Hence, many foreign visitors who miscomprehend Singaporeans as merely ethnic Chinese will be surprised by the depth of the Singaporean cuisine and their difference from contemporary Chinese cuisine.

My team and I were here to celebrate our annual lunch. We ordered sambal fish, kang kong, crabs, sambal prawns and chendol. All the dishes were credible and delicious. The seafood were generally fresh and crabs were huge and meaty - They were still alive before we sat down!! The kangkong could be better - I prefer the drier version.
