It was a busy Friday night in Chijmes and every restaurant was busy, so better book ahead of time. But we are lucky to stumble on this nice Japanese restaurant. Though it;s limited hour to stay as we don’t have booking, we still enjoy the food and drinks. They are reasonably priced and good choices. Try their mixed platter, it’s good for sharing. Thanks to the nice and attentive staff.

Upmarket yakitori place with drinks. Yakitoris are must have, lamb pieces are slightly tough, maki choice is meh, unagi and oysters are specular, dons are well sized and taste splendid. Grilled squid is oomph! The stingray is a let down though. Limited seats indoor (15pax) and outdoors are high tables seats only.

Probably most affordable beer (1 for 1 every day until 8pm) in central area. Good tapas too. Really love it.

The Modern Izakaya is the perfect chill out spot which dishes out really great food and drinks! True standouts for me were the Aburi Sushi platter and the Salmon Aburi Maki which were both fresh and boasted of a nice smokey flavour after having been lightly torched on the surface. Apart from the food and drinks, I particularly loved the top-notch service the staff displayed which made the visit all the more enjoyable. Absolutely loved it and will definitely be back again!

Love this place, the ambience, food and everything! I really enjoyed hanging out with my friends here! Staff were warm and friendly! They gave good suggestions and the food was really yummy ! Can’t wait to be back again to satisfy my cravings for the Japanese grills and skewers! ����

The Modern Izakaya is an awesome joint with great yakitori food. Had a huge spread of yakitori dishes in a super chill setting with friends. Awesome (and quick) service in a great location which made meeting up with friends perfect. Will definitely be back again!

Food is always excellent at the Modern Izakaya! I have been about close to 10 times and their quality is always superb! They specialise in Yakitori grilled over Charcoal - resulting in really tasty juicy goodness! You can also get Sushi/Sashimi from their sister restaurant Tatsu, which has been in the game for over 20 years! Wash it all down with their array of Sakes and Beers on tap and this place just works wonders to your night! Coupled by the fact that it is also housed in Chijmes, which is a beautiful location in the middle of the city!!!

Food was at most 5/10, forgot our order, asked the waitress twice about it she said it's on the way the first time, second time she came over with the menu and asked us what we ordered. There are better izakayas in Singapore. :)
