Review Violet Oon Singapore Ion - Singapore

My family and I had a lovely New Year’s Day high tea. We liked the fact that local flavours were featured and had been looking forward to this for almost three weeks. The scones came out first. They were buttery and delectable with the clotted cream and jams. The gula melaka drizzle was also delightful. The three plates had a unique assortment of sweet and savoury treats, which were all delicately and thoughtfully prepared. We felt that the savoury food was better, though. The desserts were just okay. We also ordered the dry laksa, as other reviews had highlighted it. The sauce was too spicy for me, but other than that, it was indeed a very nice dish. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The ambience was pleasant and service was good. The high tea is very popular so you will need to make a reservation.

Decent food in a place with good ambiance. Quality of food is high especially for the kueh pie tee, chap chye and chicken satay. For ladies, don't miss out on their cakes. They are good. Price is steep and reservations would be recommended. Overall 4 stars was given due to the taste to dollar ratio. Would have given 5 stars and visit on regular basis if price is 20% lower.

We had a great time previously at their Jewel outlet a few years back so decided to have our lunch here since Mrs is having her face fixed in the building across The service team is very friendly and positive. We can feel that they are passionate about what they do. They are very responsive although the joint is busy with the lunch crowd Food wise: Violet Oon is the leading “authority”over Peranakan (Nonya) cuisine in Singapore over the decades. We ordered the ngoh hiang, chap chye, taohu goreng and they did not disappoint. Personally, I would have preferred cucumbers over the raw bean sprouts as condiments for the taohu goreng. We were split over the Dry Laksa: Mrs like it a lot while I find the taste too overpowering and dryness difficult to swallow Prices are fair considering that the portions are generous Overall, it was an enjoyable lunch. Mrs mentioned this is one of the places where we can host our overseas guests next and I guess that means we will be back for more

I went to Violet Oon at 03-22 ION Orchard last Saturday for their high tea with my ex colleagues . We ordered a set of snacks for two with 2 free flow of tea or coffee. Snacks are just enough for 2 of us. Cookies and their kuehs are good and fantastic....it really suit our local palate. The cookies and kuehs are served on a three tiers tray. Very presentable. ( See the photos attached) Service can be consider acceptable as the staff leave you guys to enjoy your food and coffee.

Service was good. We ordered two mains, 2 starters and 1 dessert. The pasta & satay was ok. The curry was a bit too salty & the "roti" portion was miserably small that it does not equal to a bowl of rice (aka not filling). Kurobura pork fingerlings was acceptable but becuz it was deep fried & in small bite size, most of them were tough on teeth, so don't expect it to taste like those tender pork cutlet from those TW bubble tea stall. Dessert was nice though

Delicious food! Very pleased with the service, the service staff were very attentive with refilling our water. Kuay Pie Tee - Shells were very crispy and stuffings were served hot! Very good must order! Ngoh Hiang - Quite big pieces and served hot! Must order and do finish it while its still warm! Fish Curry with Roti Jala - Roti jala was tasty! Curry came with good amount of fish. Curry was delish too, a must try! Buah Keluak Ayam - Chicken was veryyyy tender. Gravy was flavourful and must pair with white rice. 1st time trying buah keluak nut... sour and tangy. Good to try at least once. Always been to this outlet and food never disappoint.

Rally nice Peranakan food tucked away in one of the higher floors of Ion. Food is pretty good, maybe I did not get the “good options” as I was not a big fan of their “Buah Keluak” felt they could have added more seasoning and flavour to the nut’s paste. (Have had better ones), then again the taste to it is subjective Worth a try if in the area! Would visit again to try the other food options and maybe even the high tea!

Restaurant recommendation for Singapore - I'm always sceptical about "Celebrity / TV Chefs". With few exceptions (such as our friend Jack Lee in Saigon), past experience has often not been great. In comes Violet Oon, Singapore's heritage cuisine protagonist. Her three restaurants in the city state excel in "Peranakan" or "Nonya" food, the original Asian Fusion, with its roots firmly planted in the culinary traditions of Chinese, Malay, Javanese - even Indian - cultures. Highly recommended place, with professional service, and well prepared and presented food.
