Review Marusaya - Singapore

Howard P
Excellent quality Japanese restaurant with some reasonable lunchtime deals (still expect to pay ~$20 per person, but for the quality and for the area it's a good deal). The outside space is nicely spread out and has a beautiful view of the river. Staff were approachable and prompt. One minor disappointment was the special offer on ramen, which was fantastic but they only had enough to make one bowl (we'd ordered two). They were very kind though and explained it was a new menu item. Hopefully it becomes permanent because it was delicious.

It was quite a disappointing given the numerous good reviews. Got the melting wagyu set for 2. Sashimi dont taste fresh and was slightly closer room temperature. Tempura was served even before we were finished with our previous course. The beef was kinda the saving grace but overall not worth the price paid.

Amazing shabu shabu. Very premium wagyu beef. Delightful sushi. Normally one would need to reserve a table if you’re coming during the peak period (dinnertime). Come early (before 7pm) for walk-ins. Quite and great ambience both inside and outdoor dining available. Good place for kids.

Service was very prompt and friendly! Staff were helpful in recommending items. Soup of udon beef noodle was really clear and light, very different from other places. Chicken karage is also tender and batter is good. Very glad to have found this place! They serve ice water too!

Service - polite and prompt Ambience - nice decor Food - Yummy! Ordered kaarage $10, ramen $12.8 and sukiyaki udon$18 . Kaarage’s batter was light, chicken was fresh. Thick tonkotsu broth for their ramen, dashi powder gave a good oomph to the broth. Udon’s broth tasted light and very clear and clean. Beef slices were soft and juicy. Overall a good experience

They are the whole seller of Japanese broth ingredients since 1962 which use onlyAll-Natural Dashi with no MSG and other chemical seasonings. The restaurant is location at Robertson Quay which is romantic place to go to for a couple lunch or dinner. They play jazz music in the restaurant and the beautiful sakura decor lights made the place so romantic. Food else is fantastic. signature Dashi Shabu course is a must try. The beef just melted in your mouth. I love the leek sesame oil is my favourite. The Japanese pear ice-cream is so refreshing to have after meal. Service staffs have given a 5stars service

Since 1962, the Marusaya Group (a Japanese katsuobushi wholesaler) has been producing and retailing top-quality katsuobushi / bonito fish flakes. . Their flagship restaurant Dashi Master Marusaya opened in Singapore in November 2014, and has since been offering all-natural, preservative-free, healthy dashi dishes made from their katsuobushi / bonito fish flakes. . Ambience at Dashi Master Marusaya remains homely and comfortable. Spotlights overhead cast interplay of light and shadow on the furnishings, from the dark wooden cushioned chairs, plush booth seats, to the light wood brown tables and walls. . Service at Dashi Master Marusaya remains discreet and efficient. Staff proactively clear finished plates during the meal, and clean up quickly when diners leave. If dining on hot pot, staff will help prepare and cook the meal. . Food at Dashi Master Marusaya remains traditional Japanese cuisine, focused on soups, stews, and small bites, with the highlight being the house dashi stock. Fresh premium ingredients are used, resulting in dishes that are tasty, hearty, wholesome, and healthy. Portions are sized for communal group dining. Prices are pegged at a premium, budget about SGD $129++ per person for the wagyu beef hot pot meal here.

The first time I tried Marusaya was on the weekday and the food was very good, the service was alright! Then I decided to bring my family for dinner on October 1st, 2016 to try the authentic Japanese style shabu-shabu. First it ruined our night, when we asked for the tea refill. We were told the green tea (especially ice green tea) has no refill. We were confused because which Japanese restaurant we go that we don't get any refill on green tea. It was alright, but we weren't happy because the person that took the order should have told us that. So, we were unhappy and nobody serve us water until we ask so. Very bad management. Food was pretty good that we don't have any complain about it. The service was rather slow maybe because it was quite a full house. Before we end our meal, one of us ordered a draft beer. Well, the beer was served not icy cold and the head was like 2 inch thick!! For a season beer drinker, you better not question them and you should quickly replace it when he doubt it's not a draft beer? We have to ask 2 times then only they replace it. Once the bill come, we only realized the non-refill tea cost us a bomb!!! We would have just order 2 bottles of Sake if we knew the tea cost that much. To be honest the ice Japanese tea was a rip off because the ice is filled to the brim. Overall, the foods was good but if the service do not improve. You won't get happy customers in future.

One of my old bosses told me once, a very good restaurant is one that is able to serve consistently good food. Marusaya is just this for me. A place to go without the need to judge. 安心, Consistency that let you have a peace of mind and 'おまかせる', leave it to Marusaya. The sushi is always fresh and a nice delicate portion that allows me to really enjoy more variety. Pricey? I would have it to make sure good service and good ingredients are duly rewarded. Thank you for the personal touch and the sensitivity towards customers that is the Japanese hospitality. Be firm and proud of your service.

The food were good by the service is really bad. We spend almost 2.5 hours for a simple dinner and the waiting time for food just pulls off everything. The restaurant were basically hot and no aircon - with the soup boiling, you just sweat and if your neighbor sitting next to you are eating the same, you sweat like crazy! The food is over price which I feel Tampopo serves better quality food and service are so much better - the one located at Takashimaya. Overall , we will not return again.

I'll be back. Good Japanese food at a reasonable price. Shima Hokke was awesome! Beer could have been cooler. Maybe Sake next time.

Food was alright but the service was horribly slow. We had to ask several times for tea to be refilled. We spent almost 2.5 hours for our dinner. Whatever we requested , we had to ask different staffs a few times too...
