Review Penang Place - Singapore

Patrina Wong
It's Mother's Day so we decided to give all the mothers in the house a break. Ordered the mini buffet lunch for 15 pax. We like it that the food are well packed, no mess, portion generous, delivery on time and most importantly, great taste. More than exceeded our expectations for a caterer. We got so much praises from the guests on the food quality. We feel proud as a host. Thank you.

We made a reservation for Saturday 7pm and the place was packed. We went for the alacarte instead of the buffet because one of the main items we wanted to try was the Chung ling inspired eggs, which were not in the buffet list. The kuey teow with Chung ling inspired eggs were above average and easily one of the best in Singapore. The penang hokkien prawn noodle was lacking in oomph but still pretty standard penang flavor. The kueh pie tie was also surprisingly good. Others were just average. Chendol not authentic at all tho. Price wise definitely on the expensive side. Won't be back here again unless I have some serious urges that need to be satisfied. Service wise was pretty quick and good, except for the chendol, which took forever to come out.

Buffet for local hawker favourites, from char kway tiao to prata and chicken wings, great place to bring your foreign friends to try the full selection of local cuisine. Personal favourite would be the salted egg chicken and satay. While the food selection is wide and quality is great, it’s pretty pricey given that they’re all available at hawker centre. The environment is comfortable and great for large gatherings. Would revisit again.

Love their food! Years back try their buffet , n today came back for simple lunch. Approached by friendly staffs, we ordered food via tab. Recommend their Penang Char Kwey Teow, very “wok smell” ; Mee goreng taste good too but I felt bit sweet, I like spicy; Penang hookkien Mee (prawn noodle) soup was thick, spicy & yummy 👍👍👍 Lunch time they also offer ala crate but free dessert like Chendol or black sesame + red bean. I give 5 🌟 If u’re the “heavy taste” lover u will definitely like this restaurant!

Only tried the char kway tiao at this restaurant and I have to say it is very good. Definitely no lack of wok hey and very generous with the prawns. The only thing I can pick on about the CKT is the size of the hum, which is a little too tiny and therefore they tend to overcooked very easily under the extreme high heat of the wok. I noticed they also have an ala carte buffet available which I'd definitelove to try at my next visit.

One of the best Penang food places in Singapore, but like most other Malaysian food places in Singapore, they felt the need to mellow down the taste from the original to suit the masses here. The CKT has great wok hei but lacks the saltiness like the ones in Penang. The Hokkien Mee soup tasted diluted. The saving grace was actually the Chung Ling fried omelette, extremely flavorful and packs a spicy kick at the same time.

Been wanting to try this place and finally went today. We chose ala carte as we are looking for a light meal today. Their CKT with prawn and egg is quite nice, come with enough wok hei and really like the egg on top. Another dish worth recommending is their salted egg fried chicken which we think is very tasty and had not been mentioned much. A bowl of chendol gave this lunch a nice ending. Total spend ~$53 for 2pax. Would probably try their buffet next time.

What a beautiful restaurant with great taste of music and delicious Penang food. Ordered char kway teow, spring rolls and laksa. Laksa and spring rolls are perfect combination! Try it guys! You won't regret, I promise! Laksa might be too much of HEI GO(虾糕) but still good! CKT comes in large portion!! Got wok hei, prawns are FRESH(don't taste like frozen type) and chef puts extra like 3-4 eggs on top of it..plus surprisingly they even put squids and fish cake (normally Penang CKT won't have). I guess it match the price with these extra and expensive ingredients! My point of view is egg can cut down by one egg cos I felt its way too much. Overall is a great place to dine! Service was excellent! They won't force people to order drink instead they offer us plaint water! Next time must try their chandol! Yum yum!

Delicious food big variety plentiful of desserts at a very reasonable price If I may suggest, please consider adding beef or mutton satay to the offering and also a simple Nescafé type coffee/tea machine. Also I see that your wine list is pretty good and mostly ranging from 40-80$ I m sure owner is a wine connoisseur as the list is well thought out. Nothing like pairing a dry white wine with Penang Char Kway Teow! And the most important of all, the service team and managers are all attentive and polite. All seems ready to go the extra mile and I can attest the buffet crowd is "ferocious"here. The cheerful staff I guess is a reflection of how owners too. Well done too !

We held a reunion dinner among ex-colleagues last night at Penang Place and were delighted when we were given the private room. Thank you for the great service. As for the food, the CKT is da bomb. Fresh ingredients, great taste with good wok hei. So was all the others from the curry chicken, kangkung cuttlefish, hokkien mee, penang laksa, lobak, kuih Pie tee, popiah to the hot and cold desserts. Love the agar agar and the DIY cendol. And the new place at Suntec is much better, brighter than the previous venue. Highly recommended place to go to for authentic Penang food!!!

Had buffet lunch there today. Liked that the food in the hotel pan is kept at reasonable quantity and fresh batch are replenished. The assam laksa is quite diluted, not enough fish meat, no daun kesom or torch ginger. The chap chye was not good. The rest of the food acceptable. Top marks for the nonya kueh selection and home-made kaya ! Noticed there's rows of chiller with wines...Focus more on your food, guests will naturally come when they think of Penang Food. Your food tasted better than King's Hotel's Penang Buffet.

Went for the buffet and the food was fantastic and yummy! Restaurant is spacious too! But it closes at 9.30 pm & last round of order at 9 pm so I feel that a bit too early and we could not stay longer to enjoy other food after digesting the 1st round. Price is reasonable too. Will definitely go back again!

Excellent food. Authentic Penang cuisine and very helpful and attentive staff. Do not miss their Char Kway Teow and their beef rendang! Location is very central and easily accessible from Esplanade MRT. Do give them a try. You won't regret it!

Food is so so nothing much to rave about ! The ala cut menus price is ridiculous in relations to the quality of food served. Went in for dinner at 8pm ordered the fried rice set only to be told they RAN OUT !! Reason the ingredients were out ? How do you run out of that at 8pm dinner service is beyond me. You guys definitely have down time to prep for this. Was the Chef sleeping ? Oh by the way there is a giant and Cold Storage to get all your needed ingredients if you guys even Brothered !

No good la, expensive & tasteless char kuey teow, asam laksa using meehoon?? Penang foods without soul. Not recommend.

Yummy is all I could say. The action station stalls with Penang laksa hokkien me and kang kong cuttle fish is the best.

We went today 4th January 2016 with my parents and I had just returned from Penang last week. Some of the dishes like the laksa is better than the best in Penang. We arrived at 11.45am before the lunch crowd. The selection was excellent though some dishes were not topped up when it was finished. So come early if you can. I don't understand those people who gave this only 1 star. The staff were pleasant and efficient. Highly recommended and I am coming again when my stomach has settled down from eating too much!

Good quality and nice spread - from its signature fried kway teow, satays, lor bak to kueh kuehs with homemade kaya. Everything tasted very fresh and well-cooked! Even cut fruits are placed in e refrigerators to maintain their freshness. Value for money! Love the black coffee too (not included in e buffet menu). Wouldn't mind paying more if crabs and durians are also served.

Finally, back to Penang Place for the yummy spread of Penang Food since it shifted from One North to Suntec City. The food is still Yummy! Char kway teow, nasi lemak, kueh pie tee, prawn paste chicken wings, beef rendang, satay...Love the nonya kuehs here too! Yesterday's bor bor cha cha and red bean soup with longan is fantastic! Staffs here are also very friendly. I will definitely recommend more friends to Penang Place.
