Food is reasonably good.
Reason for 2 stars:
ordered bee goreng and apparently it’s $4.50 (instead of $4) because there was a fried egg on top.
Other bee hoon goreng variations had Ikan bilis, ayam and mutton were priced at $4.50 on their menu. (Unfortunately I did not take a pic of that)
so I asked the person how come it’s $4.50 for bee hoon goreng and if the rest of the variations were same price. She says, no, the rest are $5.
And when I ask how come I get served an egg I never ask for (and why should it come as extra charge), the prc did not respond. Come on, don’t be so cheap skate. If you want to charge it, make sure the charges are known and that the customer is agreeable to it.
This is outright dishonesty.
Be very careful what you are paying for , before you pay.

Excellent and Fresh Prata! Relaxing neighbourhood vibe with the freshest and fluffiest prata. The fried chicken briyani is great and the curry has the perfect level of spiciness, perfect for dipping those piping hot prata! Special shoutout to the iced limao which was super fresh! Price on point and the staff are very friendly. My go to Indian fast casual eatery choice for sure!

Old sch prata shop.
Didn't order much only 1 prata with 2 egg.
Didnt order the normal.. plain or 1 egg.
Was quite sure they will give me one tat was made many hours ago...
The curry at the counter.. the fried chicken...
Especially the long beans...
Looks like cooked very long.
Prata is so so... Non crispy type.
Just a quick bite and left.

Finally gave this restaurant a try, after decades passing by it. The furnishing appear unchanged for decades! Generally very, very tasty curry. The mutton curry was exceptionally flavourful and meat very tender. The Prata is not the crispy type but it does complement the curry well. Friendly and 24hrs service!

The picture speaks for itself. I have been eating here for the past few days as I was attending a course nearby.
At first, I was not hoping much from this restaurant as I am not a frequent diner here.
Cut to the chase already, I ordered the biryani rice with small chunks of beef curry and was blown away. I know my biryani stuff very well and I must say that their briyani is on another level.
The beef was so tender that I just swallow without even chewing much. Then comes the very soft and light briyani rice. Not too rich on the ghee and very flavourful. I asked for additional rice when ordering and managed to finish it all with ease. I don't feel bloated or unwillingly force feeding myself to the massive briyani rice on my plate.
Combined with the "acar", it adds a zing of fresh dimension to the dish. With a spoonful of Briyani rice, acar salad and beef curry, most likely you will enjoy your briyani hands down. Then finish it off with a tall glass of ice lemon tea will be a perfect fit on a hot day.
So if you are nearby, come down here to get a great briyani meal with family or friends. Customer service here is also top notch. Fast, friendly and responsive too.
P. S As of writing, I had this briyani dish for 4 days in a row till my last day on course ended. That is my seal of approval to a great dish from my perspective.

To those Indian tourists in Bencoleen street and neighbourhood..who are struggling with the "NON-INDIAN" food here.. and craving for some heart warming food without any overembellishment..please make your way to Al Jilani.. They make absolutely awesome parathas, delicious chicken and fish curries and also more. They serve biryanis and mocktails as well.

There are some places with which you stick your belongingness. It could be due to many reasons. But my attachment with Bencoolen Street in Singapore is due to this place. Called Al Jilani Restaurant.

Every time I am in Singapore, I go here. No matter what and no matter in which part of the city I am in.

Actually, the other reason being, the Bencoolen Street itself. This one way street starts at Sim Lim Square on one side and end with this restaurant on the other side. Of course you have OG Centre, as well as the Bugis Junction nearby. But, my reason of being here is this restaurant.

It has a place to sit inside or you have the common option of sitting on the pavement with tables and chairs put. I have most of the time sat outdoor on the pavement. And that too, most of the times, on the same table as much as possible.

The restaurant offers Indian, Malaysian and Chinese cuisine. But I have always stuck to Indian food. The paratha (many kinds of them), Biryani or the tea. Well the tea is a must here. Hot or the hot one with lots of ice in it. Whatever you like. Both versions are equally tasty and amazing. I have never left this place without having the tea.

The staff is friendly and the service is quick. It’s a halal restaurant if you are particular about it.

Overall, it’s must visit for me since 2008. Which means, this small, low cost, no frills place has been able to put a place in my heart and mind due to its good food and cheap price. In that order of course.

Do visit, if you can and you will not be disappointed.

I caught up with a friend for lunch nearby at Sunshine Plaza recently. We were still a bit hungry afterwards so decided to stop here for a prata and some tea tarik. Service wasn't quite as efficient as usual on this visit, but they got the job done eventually. Usual standard of prata and tea.

Overall an average meal. The Nasi Lemak wasn’t that great and the Roti Prata fell short in the crunchy outside texture.

The curry was the star of his meal. It was right in between local spicy and foreigner spicy. Just right for an palate.

Service was robotic. Not friendly or service oriented. A smile and “good morning” never hurt anyone.

Al jilani has to be THE discovery of my last trip to Singapore.

The fact that it is a few minutes walking from where I was staying was just the icing.

Location : On middle road. There is a huge hotel G which is hard to miss. Al jilani is right below it.

Ambience : Nothing much to write home about. The seating is literally on the foot path on the main road.

The order : This place is famous for its pratas. And that's what we went for. All prata orders get served with a bowl of gravy on the side. Tried the onion prata, cheese prata. But for me, plain was the best.

The gravy served on the side is just gold. It goes so well with the prata. I could have a bowl of it. The spice, the taste is brilliant. The prata itself is really nice. Once though, I did get a bit cold not so good prata. But mostly it was warm and layered.

I also tried their chicken curry. The chicken was cooked really well. All in all, a good dish to have.

In drinks, my staple was coke and my wife liked to go with kopi ice.

Value for money : ok. This is one of those places, which deserves a 6/5 for value. 2$ for two pratas!! And with a side of gravy. What?! Meal for two will be about 10-14$.thats it.

Verdict : A place which easily becomes a staple. Plus it is 24 hours open. Imagine that. You can hardly get a better deal than that.
