A decent wet market with various items but not all stalls are opened, limited variety. Food centre had lots of variety of dishes as well. Most of the hawkers were elderly and happy to see younger generations of hawkers as well. I believe some of the elderly hawkers have been running their businesses for many years. Refreshing to see handmade carrot cake that was made from scratch as well. 40% of the stores had the CDC vouchers and I believe this is so, because of the usage of the app. Hope something can be done to help the elderly store owners run their businesses as well. There are other shops and stores just beside the Pek Kio Market & Food Centre.Overall, a good place to shop.
28 Jan 2022: Pek Kio Food Centre...spacious, well ventilated and with reasonable number of local favourites at affordable prices. Heng Leong Carrot Cake…$2 for a plate of carrot cake and for this price, it is really amazing. Generous portion, soft with crispy edges and the dark version is a little on the sweet side for me. Sin Kee Nasi Lemak (economical set at $2.70) is value for money…rice is pretty fragrant, crispy wing and with a nice tangy sambal.
Great food at this Pek Kio Market. Got Michelin Chee Chong Fun, prawn noodle, roast duck and braised duck are worth trying. Expect to queue for at least 30min during peak hours.
