No Signboard is a popular hawker stall at Mei Chin Hawker Centre in Queenstown. Helmed by an affable couple in their eighties, the popular braised duck venue started as a street itinerant hawker along Margaret Drive. The second venue was a corner stall at the old Commonwealth Avenue Food Centre before they were relocated to the current site in 2013. Queues are equally Long (around 30 minutes)
I have followed the couple for the past 20 years and their braised duck is nothing short of amazing. Perfectly braised, every part of the duck, whether breast or drumstick, is succulent and juicy. The old cook constantly turns the duck in the huge steel vat so that the duck gets evenly cooked and bathed with the herbal infused soy sauce.
For goodness sake, those so called top chefs at two and three hatted restaurants in Sydney including Sepia, Tetsuyas and Quay cannot even cook a decent duck. Perhaps they should pay the couple a visit and learn humbly.
The couple is well in their 80s and I know it is a matter of time they will retire. So, let’s enjoy while we can
I believe it was the best braised duck in town that I have tried so far. The meat so tender and moist with good balance of spice. The stall also serve braised pork belly, braised pig intestines, braised egg etc. You can order the rice or noodle here. The owner has been operated for Long time and old couple were managing the stall. Looks like they also won some Japanese recognition as well!
Have been patronising this braised duck stall for many many years since they were at margaret drive mkt.
My family love especially the noodles and the duckmeat.
The taste have always been consistent. The porridge is also very appetising. Dont go past 1 o'clock coz they are always sold out by then.
