My gf brought me to this place n I love it. It's an unassuming, humble hole-in-the-wall located on level 3 of Fortune Center.
One thing that struck me was the price of the food - 13 bucks for a ten-piece Salmon Mentaiyaki Don (aka Mentai Don L) filled with tasty garnishes and sweet Japanese rice, and 10 bucks for a six-piece Maki (albeit a bit smaller compared to others out there...).
The owner was especially friendly and tried to break the ice with new faces. When I was chowing down the Don, he told me to eat the Maki first because it turns cold quickly and the taste would have degraded after fifteen minutes. Another thing I liked was the casual ambience there, where the owner spoke and greeted the customers upon their arrival - he knew them. From what I noticed when I was there, many of their customers were repeat customers.
We spent 34.50 together, about 17 each and I was full already. This was definitely not the usual case! If you're looking for cheap and filling Japanese food, this is the place.
5 star food and service, i love the food in here and the owner is very friendly and nice too! I really love the mentai don and ebi fry maki, best food ever but their other options also all taste as good! Food is consistent and i always leave the shop happy :)
Regular patron of this place.
Excellent service and food at an affordable price!
The owner is a kind guy who tries to interact with his customers on a personal basis. When there isn't a crowd, he would ask customers about the quality of the food and made us feel welcome/homely.
Would definitely recommend the sashimi slices: Thick, sweet and flavourful. Owner said the salmon is fresh and they carefully hand-picked the fishes. It's only less than $10 for 5 thick slices of sashimi!
They have an array of choices for the maki's. My personal favourite would be the Mentai Maki. Value for money and packs a lot of flavours.
However as the place is slightly small, it's inevitable that we might have to wait slightly longer during rush hours. I mean come on, you're paying much lower prices here as compared to other restaurants. Quality is definitely no less than the sushi restaurants out there.
Then again, it's quite a weird thing that their signboard is "Japanese Curry Express". I mean... Did you hear me mention anything about Japanese curry rice?
