Amazing food, with something to chose and try out from the meat, vegetable or vegetarian dishes. Nice seating upstairs in aircon surrounds or downstairs outside. Must try in Singapore, and normally a long queue at lunchtime - that’s a good sign! ◡̈
Was there for breakfast. Just viewing the brimming dishes on display, I knew it would be delish. Ordered a few traditional mains and sides to check them out. The chicken curry, steamed brinjal, begedil, ikan bilis, tahu goreng and sotong hitam, were delish. Dishes were nicely spiced, without being overly heaty (hot) The winners were clear. Loved all the dishes above. Only one which I felt was a little over rated was the siput, cooked curry-style. Perhaps I just prefer them stir fried with sambal chili's. The iced teh kosong was good too, not overly sweet. Will definitely revist again.
Located at the very charming Art Deco shophouse. Minang is definitely a place to drop by to experience the wonderful Malay food and culture.
Their food is oh.... Sangat sedap... Very tasty. And looks great too. The rice has a nice aroma. The curry is just right. Must try!
Fantastic Zhi char food ala Minang Style cuisine. They don't scrimp on the ingredients so it's tasty and taste scrumptious
I inherited my love for Nasi Padang from my mum. She’s always had firm opinions on which are the better ones, and over the decades, has inculcated in me the dishes that she reckons shine brightest at these preferred hawker stalls and eateries as well.
In her top three is Rumah Makan Minang (@minang.sg) on Kandahar Street and I too, love their unapologetically robust style of cooking. She does grumble that they have become rather expensive these days but I think pricing is fair because extreme tastiness of good quality in this day, is worth paying for.
When we were there for an early lunch last Friday, a queue had already formed at around 11.15am and most of the tables were taken. It didn’t take us long to find seats though, or be served the food I’d picked. Clearly, the team there has a good system in place.
As prone to do when confronted by a wide array of jaw-dropping delicious dishes, I ordered a bit too much for @huatkaliao and I. Yet, we managed to finish everything 😂
For that meal, I ordered:
- Ayam Goreng with Sambal Hijau (fried chicken with a fragrant green chilli sambal)
- Paru with Sambal Belado (fried cow lungs with a medium-spicy red chilli sambal)
- Sambal Goreng (stirfry of tofu, long beans, tempeh and fresh chillies)
- Ayam Goreng with Sambal Belado (the same medium-spicy red chilli sambal as above)
- Sotong Itam (squid cooked in its own ink with a touch of tamarind)
- Sayur Lodeh (cabbage and “tau kwa” simmered in a medium-spicy coconut-based gravy)
- Terung (grilled eggplant) with Sambal Belado
- The gravy of the Ayam Opor (very aromatic mildly spicy, rich chicken dish)
Plates of plain rice to enjoy with all of the above
Had lunch there with my family. Nice, comfort, homely food. My 2 children are fussy eaters but they loved eating the rice and dishes there. Staff are friendly and attentive to customers. 👍🏽
I ordered ayam belado hijau, sotong hitam, sambal goreng and rendang. Everything was alamakkkk soooo delicious. I’ve eaten there many many times and their quality and flavour is always on point each and every time! It’s definitely a little bit more pricey I think compared to other nasi padang places in the area. But like the Malay saying — ada rupa, ada harga (with quality, comes a higher price point).
I look forward to my next visit already!!
