Review Yet Con Restaurant - Singapore

Yet Con - It has been a long long time. This stall’s chicken rice, a little of an acquired taste. For me, it’s very close to heart, the kind of chicken rice, Hainanese would eat at home. The rice still carries the fragrance, the chicken while not the most tender, retains the taste of chicken! What! What nonsense is this fat fellow talking about! Yes there are chicken that are so soaked in water that they taste like newspaper. The roasted pork continues to be crispy but a little dry. Chilli is one thing I think can be better. Note that they no longer serve dishes, so no more pork chops! You can opt for an old school steamboat if you need some add on. Food as they say can be linked to your heart. So if you are willing to experience old school chicken rice, you can drop by. For the rest, there are better chicken rice out there.

Very underrated Most amazing chicken rice I have ever had. Do come here it’s like stepping back in time. Been here since 1940! I am writing this review and I’m still salivating

Super retro place! But the step in, threw one’s nose a very stale musky smell. Personally I might have just walked out. But being with a group, oh well. There’s only two things to order, white steamed chicken and/or roast pork belly (on picked vegetable with sweet dark sauce. (🤔🤔🤔😶😶). Chicken was so-so, ginger sauce so-so, 🌶-sauce so-so. roast pork belly, so-so. Unlikely to go back there again, if it was me.

Old school chicken rice which will bring you back 20 over years. As for the food, chicken is moist but the rice is not as fragrant. Their black sauce is super thick and mixed with the chilli, goes really well with the chicken rice. There’s definitely much better chicken rice elsewhere but this place is definitely worth a visit.

Tl;dr - don't bother, not great chicken. Tender but tasteless. Cockroaches crawling across kitchen screen door. We came her on a Sunday for lunch. The standard must have dropped tremendously from its former days. Or the standard if all the other chicken rice outfits have drastically overtaken this place. There was no menu. They did not have any vegetables because the aunty told us the kitchen was closed (terrible, lazy, in this day an age, there is no excuse for a chicken rice shop to not have the basics like bean sprout/ you cai), and there was only chicken and steam boat. The chicken itself was tender, but the plate it was served on had no sauce whatsoever. There was a large bowl of soup with some bits of cabbage and small bowl of rice. Then we saw a cockroach crawling across the kitchen door. Enough said. This place ought to close down. #localguides

The signature dishes is still the best as long as you don't put too much expectation on service. No menu at all, some old acquaintances could order the chicken hot pot from servers, but no server was telling me about this....apparently we were tourist.
