Charlie was famous for his Peranakan restaurant in the mid-2000's before he retired. Now, after almost a decade, he has re-emerged in the same yummy fashion, but out of an ordinary-looking hawker stall. Don't let the less-flashy frontage fool you, though; the food has not lost any of its taste and quality. He serves a bewildering range of favourites (27 items on the menu at times!) and each drop of sauce is to be savoured and each plate licked clean.
Located in the basement of the army-surplus-shop 'Jalan Sultan' building, near the Kampong Glam Community Centre edge, it is a must-eat, not simply a must-try.
I am a Peranakan, and it takes a lot to get me to give great reviews like this. It almost makes me want to ask for a SIX-star rating.
Tried the Assam fish and other dishes. It’s as good and fresh as what everyone said and good value for money. Another place added to my favourite makan list.
Just came out of Golden Mile food centre after trying the Nangka Curry from Charlie's with a bunch of friends and it was my fav out of the other dishes we ordered! Must have it with white rice or Mr Baguette's freshly baked baguettes! The lady who served us was also super friendly!! Will definitely be back to try other dishes they serve!! Thumbs up!
