Review Teochew Restaurant Huat Kee - Singapore

Been a customer of theirs since their days at Amoy Street. Bought my wife’s family dinner there when I met them for the first time when we were still dating in 2014. Food quality is still as good and I think the key reason is because they really use fresh ingredients and kept strictly to the close guarded recipes If there’s any hint of regrets, it would be the steamed promfet we ordered tonight. There’s just too much soup that came with the steamed fish which was not the case on our previous visits. That said, the texture and taste is still ok. Will we visit again? Yes we will if we having cravings for Teochew cuisine. This joint is one of the best in town.

Teochew food done by Teochew chef who knows his stuff. Cold crab is actually flower crab and not mud crab. Lots of roe and flesh is sweet. Grilled pork cheeks was so crispy and tender. Beats any char siew out there. Not a bargain basement joint so you get what you pay for.

First and last visit. You have been warned. Highly anticipated dinner after reading some fantastic reviews and ended up being the biggest let down. Had dinner on 1 May and made reservation online. No one called to confirm the reservation and prior to that, tried calling the restaurant and no one answers the phone. Was told by staff that it was a public holiday, only set menu was allowed for that day. We had 6 persons. The pork jelly was so black and smelly. Braised duck platter so oily and duck meat portion was probably for 3 persons but tons of pork skin which was rock hard. Cai Por horfun taste was worst than a coffeeshop zhichar. Some parts were white and overall tasteless. Veggie dish with braised hard abalone. Probably the only edible dish was the ngor hiang and prawn balls. We added on the oyster omelette which we regretted too. Live patin fish couldn’t go wrong. The only worthwhile dish here is the fish maw soup. Best part of the dinner, I had the runs for the past 18 hours after the dinner. Thanks a lot Huat Kee.

Under the radar and underappreciated teochew restaurant with a long history. The wine collection is very impressive and this probably houses the largest collection of moss wood cab in Singapore, for Margaret River wine fans. For the food, lobster bee hoon, sea cucumber and the oyster omelette were the noteworthy standouts.

An expensive restaurant(should mark as $$$$ at least). Food served are good and authentic. The prices are steep and be prepare to be charge for the non-optional towel charges + watery tea. Cost $4(4.50 actually after tax and service charge) per person. Would be more worth taking a taxi to eat out for anyone who stays in RELC hotel.

The food is great, but it takes forever for the food to be served. The conversations on the table and of those around us long wait and how people just want to cancel their unserved dishes. So many unhappy customers. Feel so bad for the servers. Repeated requests to check on our food to no avail. Come at your own risk — maybe during weekdays when they are less busy. I won’t be back cuz of the ridiculous wait time. Oh be warned - you can’t reject the tea and towels. It’s $4 per person.

When my family crave for authentic Teochew cuisine, this will be the restaurant we will go to. We have tried various Teochew restaurants and still only stick to them. Their prices are steep but rest assured they only served the BEST. Their lobster noodle, shark fin, abalone, cai Por kway Teow and oyster omelette are to die for! They do have very good orh nee n tao suan! Yums

Visited on 18 July for lunch. Food was authentic and really yummy. The traditional pumpkin yam dessert was so satisfying. Overall we had a very fantastic lunch. Lady boss was friendly but unfortunately she seems to have some manpower issues. If you don't mind spending some time waiting then it is fine.
