Review Victor's Kitchen - Singapore

Andrea Chay
Support the local restaurants!!! Visited Victor's Kitchen to try their Dim Sum and I am impressed by the food quality. The ingredients used are fresh and you can tell from the Shrimp Dumpling. Yummy Dim Sum at affordable prices. The pig trotter vinegar is a MUST-TRY, the taste is excellent and perfect! Strongly recommend this place for those of you who are looking for HK standard Dim Sum in a very simple restaurant set-up.

First time here, was recommended by my sister to try. Had a couple of dishes, and would say my fave is the XLB, thought the broth was fantastic. The egg tart was also good. The century egg porridge was a miss for me. In general, the food is pretty decent. Nothing that fantastic. Good enough to satisfy the dim sum cravings

This is the Chinatown Point outlet of the Sunshine Plaza original. We’ve been going to both shops since they opened but hadn’t been in a while. When the original first opened, it was really good and great value for money, then things went down a bit and have improved since. The meal today was nice. We enjoyed all the dishes and the price was reasonable. All their prawn dishes are loaded with prawns. The Teochew dumplings are really nice with a great texture. Really, everything was good. This is not ‘atas’ dim sum and it’s not old school Hong Kong cart style, but it fills a nice niche, is conveniently located, and reasonably priced. Service is decent considering where you are. My one tiny gripe with Victor’s is that they don’t serve classic chashao bao. Instead, they have the bolo bao version. They’re good but they’re very sweet and I prefer the original. They’re also famous for the golden egg yolk lava buns. They’re worth trying once if you’ve never had them. Their carrot cake with XO sauce is good, too, but heavy. The sauce is really nice.

One of the hidden dimsum chain located in chinatown point. The old aunty recommended the limited fish porridge (龙趸), quite decent, can taste the freshness of the fish. Their har gao, siu mai definitely one of the best within Singapore! If rating only based on these two, I would give a solid 5 stars. Polo bun can skip... Skin not crispy and quite bland, can try their polo char siew bun, saw a lot of good feedbacks on that. Steam carrot cake is one of the rare dish that I never ever seen in other dimsum chain, and it tasted unexpectedly delicious!

Tried the Bencoolen outlet one many years ago, it was decent. Can’t say it’s the same for this outlet. They were open 5 minutes late, and 12 minutes later, they were still counting their petty cash for their cashier, with 3 people waiting to order. Nothing mind blowing for the food. In fact the custard lava bun tasted normal. They do accept Paynow if you’ve no cash.

Food served hot and by friendly aunties. Menu wasn’t extensive. Small place. Quite crowded during lunch hours. So go early to beat the crowd. Taste is mild. 👌🏻

Yummy authentic Cantonese style dim sum, the carrot cake in thousand island sauce was especially good! As it was just fried, the outer layer was so crispy, inside filled with HOT & melted in your mouth kind of carrot cake. The prawn dumplings, siew mai & prawn cheong fun filled with at least 2 crunchy prawns, the quality of each item was so much better than alot of places selling dim sum. Another must recommend dish was the chicken feet...omg...it was so well cooked, every pieces of meat & bones easily split apart in your mouth. Definitely worth paying!

More convenient now that it's located in chinatown point. However not sure if the price varies from the original branch. Enjoyed the polo bun, hargou, siewmai & luishabao. However the chicken, shaola glutinous rice & yuanyang is a big miss. Good service & no service charge. Need to order and pay at the counter first.

I have been to Victor's Kitchen about 2 times. Honestly, the food is alright but the service I experienced when i visited today is horrible! I was waiting in the queue with my girlfriend and a female staff with specs and tied up long black hair assigned us to table 19. Unfortunately, the customers near table 19 said the table was already taken up and I had to re-join back to the front of the queue. Strangely enough, the same staff then asked a couple behind us to proceed into the shop instead of asking me and my girlfriend when we were first in the queue. Luckily, the couple was kind enough to highlight to this staff that we came first. Kudos to the couple for that! We kindly explained to the same staff she had assigned us to the a table that was already taken up but she mentioned "loud noises and she cant hear anything" which totally does not make any sense as we were in front of the queue and that has got nothing to do with any noises. We decided not to argue with the staff and then proceeded into the shop, When I was done filling up the order chit, I asked the same staff (Which happened to be near my table) to take my order chit. At this point when I asked, this staff was not carrying anything. However, when i called her she just ignored me and then went to pick up a basket of buns and showed me the basket of buns and looked at me in a frustrating way. At this point, I was feeling very angry. Why does she have to show me an attitude when I asked her to take my order chit when she was not carrying anything? This is ridiculous. However, I controlled my temper and did not argue with her and eventually she took my order chit. Please put in the effort to train and teach your staff to at least have proper manners. This is basic courtesy. It is really sad that this place is turning into a horrible place to come and have a nice meal. I also noticed there are a lot of reviews about the bad service here and Victor's Kitchen does not seem to care about it. Therefore, I hope potential customer's will read my review and think twice about coming to this place. I definitely will not be coming back to visit this place.

My first visit here and I am never coming back again! Heard so many raving reviews about their dim sum esp the custard buns. Oh my god! The custard bun is the most disappointing dish out of the items we ordered. There was a pool of orangely looking oil when we tore the bun apart. I guess the salted egg yolk-custard mixture was not well mixed or the buns were made a long time ago that resulted in this very turn off sight! This is nothing like the usual yellow molten flowy salted egg yolk custard that I always get from restaurants like Imperial Treasure. In addition, I had that weird orangely oil dripping all over my fingers. Totally disgusting! Service wise, it was fair. However, my friend and I were a bit turned off by the constant ranting from the counter/ open concept kitchen. It was the Head Chef/ owner displaying his annoyance towards one of the female staff. I could recognised that it was him from the newspaper cut outs pasted at the shop front. He was ranting so loudly in Cantonese, blabbering vulgarities throughout! "Diu, diu, diu!!" Goodness gracious! Totally uncivilised. Come on. I know you are in Singapore but Singaporeans can understand basic Cantonese. I will rate Victor's Kitchen as a very dodgy eatery with overpriced overrated food! My money would have been better spent elsewhere on dim sum at a hawker centre!

Many years ago when my husband and I visited, it was a small joint, without much people. But more than ten years after, this place has flourished to a bustling little shop with so many people and different variety of dim sum. This goes to show that good food doesn't need a lot of advertisements or marketing - people will flock here as long as it's delicious dim sum. Please try the Loh Mai Kai - it's the best.

Why is the standard at Chinatown so different? Service was slow, food was not hot, cold even (my cheong fun was literally 1/2 fridge cold), porridge was tasteless and the service staff's excuse was to blame the kitchen. Seriously?! What the heck is going on? Never eating at this outlet again. Very disappointing.

I enjoyed my meal with my husband today. Though seats are abit cramp, but food was delicious and waiting time is reasonable. We ordered the siew mai, ha gao, youtiao zhu chang fen, liu sha bao, century egg porridge and he ye fan. We were disappointed with the porridge as it is quite watery, tasteless and ingredients in the porridge are quite little. Also, I encountered difficulty in pressing out the chilli sauce from the self-service container near the cashier, not sure if the container is faulty but in the end I gave up eating the chilli sauce. For the quality of the food, the price is really on the high side, suggest the shop can consider reviewing the price. But overall, this place serves reasonably good dim sum.

Ive been to Victor's kitchen multiple times but today was really a disappointment. Firstly, our order chit had an extra dish which we did not order. Double checked with the staff and insisted we ordered. Double checked at the cashier when paying up and realised someone else had striked a 1 which looked more like a w next to the dish. Totally not our handwriting. Next, an aunty was trying so hard to hardsell the pomelo sago. We gave in and ordered 1 but she subsequently forced us to order 2 for 3. Halfway through we realised we couldn't finish the food and tried to cancel however we were told they already prepared it when we ordered and cannot cancel. You mean your pomelo sago is cooked like within 10-15 mins when the customers order? Ridiculous! Ran out of char siew polo buns when we ordered 2 but suddenly became 3 egg tarts just cuz no more polo bun. We had no say in this and unable to return it. Very disappointed and I don't think I will ever return again no matter how much I love the black bean pork ribs there. Cannot stand dishonest business. :(

Century egg fish porridge, spare ribs, char Siew cheong fun, and dumplings were average. For about $5 each dish, definitely not worth it. Go to hwa nam restaurant. Cheaper and quality is better. Service is not so good. Have to take utensils on our own.

I went to the empty branch at Chinatown town and was wondering why. Service was bad, staffs looks grumpy, except for a senior male staff(He's great and all smiles). Food wasn't fantastic but above average.

The food is fine, but the quality is no better than Din Tai Feng and Tim Ho Wan but around the same cost. Please lower the cost.

Decent Food. Price may be an issue but it is worth it. But was shocked with the service despite the business has been around for quite a number of years. How could someone did not notify me that my chicken rice was cancelled when i went to cancel my order after wasting 20 minutes (excluding the time taken to eat other stuff) of my time for it.

Price inflated, service dropped drastically, like most reviews said, they have good food but at the exchange of everything else, service has turned into money digging from consumers. Sigh. A once wonderful eatery has come crashing down because of the poor service

Love the authentic dim sum. Place is abit small but you get the HK 搭台 feel which is quite good actually.

Visited the branch at Chinatown. Similar to the other outlet, service is as shitty as it gets. Rude stuff. Mediocre food. If not for my friend, will nvr visit this place again.

Actually should be minus 5 stars in service but positive 4.5 stars in food quality.

Best Dim Sum in town... beats those so called "Branded" restaurants hands down....

Went to Chinatown outlet, service from an aunty is way out of terrible to describe.

The prices are getting more and more expensive. I was so shocked that the prices of 2 egg tarts are $4.70. The staff were not very helpful and were quite rude as well. Permanently banned.
