We had sambal buah keluak fried rice, really yummy that we had thoughts of ordering another. Ngo Hiang was tasty & fresh. Seafood otah we fought over it, yes honest, we did. Angled bean salad was refreshing with well balanced dressing. The chap Chye was good value for money & I could just have eaten that with sambal belachan & rice. The sorting masak hitam was another dish we scraped the gravy to last bit. Overall nothing disappointing at all. All dishes were fresh & no heat up, microwave feel. We all voted to come back again & again. Only snag was the aircon not cold enough or probably the lights are hot ??? If place can be tad cooler, one would eat more. Otherwise, yes definitely worthy of a trip to Beach Road. Oh, kueh kosui is another I would definitely buy seconds. Great experience. TQ !
Long, long wait for my food, although the waitress did warn me. But when the food came - aberjack, singgang, buah keluak fried rice, tofu-pidan, they were some of the tastiest food I'd ever had for a long time. Despite the burgeoning crowd, each dish was impeccably prepared. Kudos to Chef Damian.
Husband and I are both big fans of Peranakan food so we had to bring our foreign friends to try some too! First time at Folklore and we'll definitely be back again. Special mention to the buah keluak fried rice and winged bean salad. It would be a sin not to take away the leftovers!
A big group has its advantage !! We virtually tried everything on the menu,.... and it was great. Hats of to Chef Damien. Being a Peranakan, I am very hard to please , as my mum had already set such a high benchmark. But I think my mum will give this place a stamp of her approval . The dishes were of high quality, largely from the fresh ingredients used. Spices were distinct and aromatic! Will certainly come back for more!
Great tasting dishes, especially the very, very memorable Aberjaw - you can really taste the effort and understanding that Chef Damian and his team put into the execution of each item on the menu. Service standards match the quality of the food. Will be back. For me, Folklore is definitely one of SG's most exciting restaurants to watch at the moment.
Just awesome. Every single dish was good and already counting down to the next visit!
Sinful! So wanna return soon to tuck into Damian's Sambal Buah Keluak Fried Rice, Tofu with 皮蛋, Beef cheek Rendang, Singgang,
Otah (OMG!!) & Chap Chye. I forgot to order the soup, damn!
Folklore serves traditional Eurasian and Perakanan dishes and is on a quest to keep thr Singapore food heritage alive. The dishes we ordered were super tasty and the service was top-notched. Highly recommend!
It is a rare occasion that we celebrate the success of a modernised Peranakan cuisine. But when the first taste of Buah Keluak fried rice filled my mouth, the taste was divine. The rich cocoa like aroma filling the entire palate and leaving us craving for more. The fried aubergines were crisp and so soft it almost melts. The service was genuine craft. Most of the dishes were able to capture the essence of Peranakan cuisine and therefore it deserves a thumbs up and 5 stars. The food is worth a visit especially if you love local cuisine.
Fix of Malaysian, Indonesian, and Singaporian cuisine. Most dishes are spicy and with strong flavors. Many curry dishes. Pretty good but might be too spicy for some people. The slow cooked beef cheek rendang is really awesome, strongly recommended.
Restaurant serves good peranakan food - highly recommend the otah, beef rendang and ayam goreng. For desserts, try the kueh kosui and tapioca cake with ice cream. Ambience is casual and comfortable and service is fine. Can get a little noisy when crowded but otherwise a decent place to eat.
Amazing peranakan food however the dishes were either hits or misses.
Good: Salted duck soup with lime juice and chilli padi, 4 angled bean salad, beef cheek, black nut fried rice
Misses: Otah, Singgang, kuay chap (too salty)
Service was very weak and slow on this day, with only 2 pax running the floor. Also all cocktails were not available and we were only informed after ordering. Yes, I would return but not anytime soon.
Heard so much about local Chef Damien D'Silva's heritage creation and decided to visit this place with my family. Being a 皮蛋 fan, the Chilled Tofu with Pidan is a winner. The tofu is smashed up together with century egg, radish and scallion and served chilled. Generally the food are pretty good except for a few dishes which we find it quite salty. Overall the dinner was a pretty good experience.
If you love Peranakan, you have to try this restaurant!!! Every cuisine is uniquely rich in flavour, tangy, aromatic and spicy. Savour every bite and feel your taste buds waking up from hibernation! The Kueh Bengkah with ice cream is a ten! The sago dessert would be heavenly if there was more gula melaka.
