Review Boon Tong Kee At Balestier - Singapore

This is always one of the reason I come to Singapore. I mean seriously, what’s good food in Singapore compared to Malaysia? But to be honest, this Hainanase Chicken Rice really better than Malaysia. 😍😍😍 Chicken so juicy and the magic sauce just magically makes you ask for 2nd bowl of that fragrant rice….. Love love love!

Chicken Rice (SGD $7.50) @ Boon Tong Kee. . Established since 1979, this heritage brand serves the most pricey rendition around, being among the forerunners to transit from humble eatery to full fledged zi char restaurant. . Their poached chicken is the star, to the extent that roast chicken is only available by advance order. The chicken meat is certainly satisfying with a tender bouncy chew, and fresh sweet savoury flavour. . The rice is decadently fluffy and buttery, with a glossy sheen from the chicken fat, having bold savoury sweet grainy oily flavour. . The iconic trio of dark sweet soy sauce with salty sweet savoury flavour, bright garlic chili with sharp spicy herbal sweet flavour, and crushed ginger with vegetal earthy herbal sweet spice flavour, completes this.

Our favorite chicken rice. The rice, chicken, sauce, so good. Always enjoy our meal here. They don’t serve free soup but order their daily soup. It’s really good and worth! Follow ReviewIKR @ our Instagram and Facebook for more reviews.

still good as ever but beer @ $13.00 per bottle is a tag expensive (see bill) despite the pandemic, brisk business when we were there at dinner time since the lower floor is open to diners only (usual 2 pax and 4 pax tables but there's limited round tables available for 5 pax dining in); upper floor is closed.

First time dining in at this famed chicken rice franchise in Singapore, was here around 1pm and ushered to a table promptly upon arrival. Ordered their famous steamed chicken, alongside 纸包鸡 and a spinach soup to go along with 😋 was asked if we wanted ginger and black sauce to go with the chilli and said yes - which was the best decision made for the day 👍🏻 ⏰ serving time was rather prompt, though we did witness other tables being unhappy at us being served before them albeit arriving first. 🍗 the combination of the chilli 🌶, ginger and black sauce was just perfection. The spiciness of the chilli when eaten itself was well soothed by the light and earthy taste of the ginger, topped off with a little sweetness from the black sauce 😋 going back to the chicken itself - it was really tender and fresh at first bite, topped with really tasty light soy sauce too! 🍚 rice was fragrant for sure, they used a different variant of rice which was smaller in size and carried more fibre than the usual ones. All in all, really good experience, stick to having all 3 sauces accompanying your dishes and you won’t go wrong for the meal 😊

A long standing brand of chicken rice in Singapore. The individual chicken goes for 6, it's tender and the sauce is nice. Paper wrapped chicken is rather rare now and it's not exactly what I imagined. It's definitely juicy and tender. Overall flavour is okay, nothing really stands out. Slightly disappointed with all the fame it has attracted

There is a drop in standard compared to 3-4 years ago, especially for rice. The fragrant rice isn't as prevalent anymore. Maybe it's because we found some really good steam chicken at some other neighborhood hawker centers.

Authentic Chinese restaurant. Heard their chicken is nice. First time trying it out and no doubt the chicken is smoother and nice. Besides chicken, you also can order dishes. 2 of us ordered 4 dishes. Other dishes are not bad too.. We can’t finish the pork ribs so we packed in a doggy bag. Total bill about $65. Standard Chinese restaurant price range.
