Chance upon this place known for their affordable Japanese don and Salmon rolls. Ordered their signature salmon roll which comes up to 4 pieces to try. Good for a quick bite. The sushi rice is fluffy and delicious. The flame charred salmon and salmon roe topping tasted fresh and flavorful. The whole roll is simply made perfectly, firm and just at the right texture. Overall a great dining experience minus off the crowd. Next visit will probably try their Don.

What went wrong.
Salmon was too dry which is a surprise cos is pretty hard to overcook this fish as it is so full of oil. Mentaiko sauce tasted like mayonnaise.
Katsu Don... the chicken is hard and dry too and honestly it doesn't taste like katsu don. It looks like it but definitely not the flavor.
I am not even pitting it against restaurants. I am comparing it with the vegetarian food in the same coffee shop.
You will definitely save money and get better taste by eating any other stalls in the same coffee shop.
Not worth the try.

The portion for mentako on salmon mentaiko is quite generous but the fish doesn't really taste as good. Gyoza is quite normal. Only ordered 2 dishes as some of the dishes is sold out. A bit overpriced even though it was just located in coffee shop.

Lots of people were raving about this place, so decided to try & the presentation does look good but...the taste test failed. The chicken katsu don batter was bad, the egg didn’t taste like the typical katsu don kind of taste & there’s a strange taste that I couldn’t pin point. The salmon mentai don looked good, but the sauce is more mayo than anything & the salmon was very dry.

First time here trying the very affordable Japanese Dons. The selection here isn't very wide but I prefer it that way. You know they specialise in a few items and do it well.
I had the Mentai Chicken Katsu Don $6.80 as well as the Mentai Maki $5.80.
The chicken don was alright. The rice they use is fair quality Japanese rice I think, so that was nice with a nice bouncy bite. But the star of the show which is the chicken and the Mentai I thought was also just alright. My chicken was fried abit too long and it came out past golden brown and was sliced too thickly making it hard to chew in one big bite. I think the quick solution to slice it thinner. The Mentai sauce was more mayo than mentaiko but I won't harp on it at the price point.
The Mentai Maki is yummy though, with a relatively generous portion of fish and toppings. But essentially $1.50 a piece was ok, not that cheap after all.
Overall, I'd eat here again because of the affordability

Ordered their mentaiko chicken cutlet don. Culet is fried just nice, was crispy even after taking it back to office (about 5 minutes later). Mentaiko taste more of mayonnaise with a little bit of Pollack roe.
Would recommend it for a short and tasty lunch!

I tried Donya Chicken Katsu Don. $5.80. Delicious and value for money for a Japanese lunch. Good taste and good service.

Food is quite good. Other friends ordered their mentai and they love it. I don't fancy mentai so ordered curry instead. Not bad. 😁
