My family used to like tonkichi katsu and had always visited tonkichi whenever we craved for tonkatsu. But today the restaurant has failed miserably in living up to its name.
We ordered ebi fry and rosu katsu set, and hire and rosu katsu set. The prawns were small and tasted only thick flour layer. The worst was the pork katsu itself, it was stinky (クセ) on first bite, and the longer we chewed on the stronger the odd taste lingered in our mouth. We could hardly swallow the pork katsu, and finally had to leave the food unfinished. First time ever that happened with my family.
What happened to the fragrant pork katsu that we used to enjoy at Tonkichi, with an aroma of sesame seeds and tenderness of pork? What happened to the pride of quality and tradition?
Frankly quite a disappointment, and would never return again. The management is fully responsible for being down the restaurant! ガッカリ😞😡

I've long searched for the best tonkatsu in Singapore. This is the best so far. Panko crumbs are delicious. The tonkatsu is the least oily I've had. The meat is very tender. Ma Maison or Saboten should learn a thing or two on how to make great tonkatsu.
Update July 2018: menu changed, you're now sitting with the bar crowd. Loud environment, less menu options but same price. At $30 I shouldn't be putting up with bar surroundings. I couldn't get myself to order food. Management, what have you done?!

Good quality pork, very tender and the service is great, might be a little more expensive for lunch, but definitely worth it for the quality.

Martin is a cheerful staff with genuine attitude & good PR. Reservations required especially on Friday evenings. Will like to try out the Asian fusion buffet on Sunday at 3pm (S $50.00 ++ per pax.)

선텍 리노베이션 하기전에 지하1층에 있었던 Tonkichi는 정말좋았죠. 작년말에 Tower4 1층에 새롭게 오픈해서 우연히 가봤는데 너무 실망이네요.
다카 돈키치를 포함해서 거의 20년째 돈키치를 다니고있는데 단한번도 밥맛이 없었던적이 없었다.
여기 선텍점은 밥이 몇일이나 묵었는지 거의 먹지를못했고 새우튀김은 크기나 상태를 종합해볼때 냉동제품을 이용한게 거의 100% 확실하다. 돈까스도 타지점보다 상태가 너무 떨어지고....
가격이 타지점보다 10 - 15% 정도 저렴한거같은데 나라면 제값주고 타지점을 이용하지 여긴 정말 아닌거같다.
외식하고 기분상한게 오래만인데 웬지 사기당한 기분이다.
