Review Segar Restaurant - Singapore

Yun Xiang
Local Chinese restaurant. Their signature dish is their fish head curry which is decent. I tried their fried noodles and rice with chicken/beef today for the first time. The meat given was very less. Beef is hard and chewy. I do not recommend to order any of the noodle/rice. Fish slices with ginger has about 16 thin fish slices for the small portion at 12 sgd? I only recommend their prawn paste chicken. Fried well with tender meat.

Just happened to bump in to this corner restaurant located at Chinatown Point on 6/6/2022 at 1340hrs. The staff's were fast and service was poor due to inattentive staff. But then came along a staff name is Carol who attended to me despite of the busy and rush hour. She is able to accomodate me and take my orders profesionally. Service is slow but food was not that great too. Carol is attentive, fast and efficient.

Certified halal restaurant in Chinatown. You can see the MUIS credited in the restaurant. Food also good and accept cashless.

It's a tze char place that's a little more atas. Food is decent, as is price, just that the portions are a little small. Not always a bad thing though, the food was served quickly. We had the salted egg prawns (the salted egg paste is good and the prawns were fresh enough), sambal kang kong (not too spicy), as well as the pineapple fried rice (just average fried rice with pineapple cubes). Paid about $30++ for two pax. Food came quite quickly.

Ordered the thai fried rice which cost only $6! It is worth every cent of it. The chicken was cooked to crisp, meat was tender too. Fried rice can be a bit too salty for some but squeezing lemon should help to reduce the strong salt taste. Overall, I'm impressed and definitely will be back for more if I'm around the area

Overall taste is good but rather expected the Assam Curry Fish Head would be more assam tangy sourness (Malaysian flavor) more than creamy milk curry taste. Fish is fresh, but the curry veg added was too “old”. Tofu is nice and should try their Mee Goreng too which it is nicely dry-fried with wok hei.

Ordered set meal - bean curd platter, steamed fish fillet, kailan oyster. Added black pepper squid. All taste great. The vegetables are still crunchy (not overcooked) and fish was tasty. Just wish they can be more generous with the drinks.

Nice food and the food was served fast. Service was good as our request was acted on promptly. Only downside was that the food portion was not big enough for 6 pax as we order the set menu and everyone feedback was food portion was not enough for 2nd serving.

I visited Segar at Chinatown Point on 16 Sep 14. The food was average, tasty local style cooking. We were a party of four, ordered Segar chicken in claypot, sambal style lady's fingers, Groupa fish steamed Thai style and oyster omelette. I must mention that the steam fish reflects poorly the quality of cooking. It was not very cooked at some parts (the back of the fish) and the fish was not fresh. When ordering the food, we asked about the serving portion of the fish but the waitress couldn't give us any indication and she was impatient. All we want to know is whether the portion is enough. Thank goodness we didn't order the large serving because I didn't eat much of the fish. Unfortunately, my friends still ate the fish although we didn't enjoy it. What irritates me most is when I pass a feedback to the counter staff about the fish, her immediate response was "you should have told us earlier" and in no way showing any response to the quality issue or taking the feedback. By the way, we are already paying up and this feedback was meant for the chef to improve on it the next time. My two other friends were frequent patrons as they like the curry fish head. It is easy to put lots of spices to make the cooking tasty but really have doubt if there is any quality. I live in the area and could be a loyal patron but this is probably my last visit to the restaurant. If the chef haven't received the feedback I passed to the counter staff, read this comment.

The waiting time is ungodly. We waited 45 minutes to finally get to eat. At that point, the taste didnt even matter.

Food is nice Price is reseaonable for town area Waiting time is acceptable Environment and hygiene cleanliness is great too. Only down side is portion a bit small and I don't remember there is any choices for the sizes from the menu.

Service is so so poor. We had to self service everything coz the waiter was avoiding our group table. When questioned, the waiter (a young boy) said it doesn't matter whether we decided to self service or he do it himself since he's receiving salary all the same. Food is mediocre.

We had steamed seabass Hong Kong style. Very fresh n tasty. The butter prawns were scrumptious. Very crispy, we could eat it all, complete with head and shell.!!! But i was disappointed with the claypots they used to serve the soups in. They were badly chipped. Surely there's some safety regulations that prohibits this...

Not worth the visit. This will be my first and last visit to the Chinatown Point outlet. We ordered the fish head curry and the dish turned out to be disappointing. It was filled with more taupok and tau kee more than the fish when we tried to scoop it. The service level was below par. When we went there on 2 April 16, it was ard 11.35am. And the service crew were not friendly towards us. They seemed more interested in talking and laughing away among themselves, not paying attentively to the customers.

It's the only halal restaurant at Chinatown Point. I've been there few times during my lunch time as I can say the food is nice but the service is slow. I have to leave office early in order to have a sit and hoping to have enough time to be back to office by 1pm. Unfortunately, my food is always serve late and end up I always 20-30 mins late to be back to office.
