Review Smokey's Bbq - Singapore

Michael Watson
Good beer, decent food, really friendly manager (though other staff a bit sullen). A great place to watch some sport. Spare rib was tasty, though a little underwhelming for the $50 price tag. Still, I’d happily return for an excellent selection of beers in a relaxed setting.

The Smokey’s classic burger is really good! Juicy ground beef patty with nicely toasted buns. Be sure to get it on every Thursday for only $10 (when you purchase any drink). The homemade ice lemon tea is not bad. Has a very lemony taste to it. Onion rings are dope as whole onion rings are battered and deep fried. The corn bread is one of the better corn breads I’ve tried too. Moist and crumbly! The baby back pork ribs are a disappointment though. The meat falls off the bone, however the meat itself is dry and a little “mushy”. Like as if it’s not fresh or cooked too long. The Black & Blue Burger is also good. Flavourful patty complemented with the blue cheese. Smokey’s BBQ burger is good but a little on the expensive side. The beer battered smoked fish is really good. There’s an intense smokey flavour to it! Edit: Smokey’s classic burger Thurs promo is now $12!

Go on Thursdays for their $10 burgers (update, now it's $12) that comes served with fries and happy hour all day! Baby back ribs were not too shabby though my dining companion thinks they were a touch tough. Corn bread was a surprise. Fries were great, onion rings a lil too greasy for me though my companion thinks otherwise. Real onion rings :p Overall, will be back for sure. Service was excellent too. P.s $1 buffalo wings on Wednesdays!

It was unfortunately a disappointing experience. Decided to try out Smokey’s because our regular joint was closed. Both the baby back and the spare ribs were tough and dry and not melt off the bone tender as expected. The $5 side order of beef rice was a pitiful portion which had an odd, sticky almost glutinous texture that was bland with no flavour and had to be binned. Not worth the price at all.

My family has been coming here for the wagyu beef rib for over 10 years, and it is STILL FREAKING DELICIOUS. Can go head to head with the BBQ ribs I ate in the States. Call ahead to reserve if you are going to dinner, as the beef rib sells out fast. We also tried the baby back ribs - fall-off-the-bone and pretty good. Sides (coleslaw, sweet potato fries, onion rings, garlic bread, cornbread) are acceptable. Cornbread is a little too dense but tastes good. And portion sizes are huge; 1 plate can serve 2 people. My family doesn't drink so no comment on the beer, but looks like a sizeable collection. Parking is horrendous though. There is a small public parking lot about 5-7mins down the street.

Very nice casual place for American BBQ. Buffalo wings and onion rings highly recommended! Will visit again!

This is one of the best places locally for American BBQ. Had the best time with my family of 9. Last minute reservation on a Saturday. The manager/owner is an awesome guy. Had 2 combos and a few sides and drinks. They have a great selection of beers and craft beers. Will definitely need to visit again soon!

Went there tonight for dinner. Terrible service and food was definitely below average plus it's way too expensive. Porterhouse (medium, came out medium rare and some parts rare) Buffalo wings too dry and overrated. Baby back ribs overcooked and dry. Way overrated place definitely never coming back. The only plus point is the Indian lady behind the bar wearing a Guinness Rugby jersey top. She is the only positive feedback I can give. (You've got better prospects out there)

Went for a quick dinner Tuesday night. 2 of us and the bill came up to an extrobent extrobent $87++ . We shared a plate of ribs , had a starter plate of jalepeno poppers and a 1 pint and 1/2 pint beer. The ribs were overly smoked and the poppers were hard burnt and black. We were charged 4$ for extra sauce, and weren't even told that we would be charged. Overly priced for bad food. You can better ribs and deals at other joints in that area

The good: The place was open on Chinese New Years Eve. The burger and ribs were decent. Service was okay. The bad: those stupid iPads to order food, a very misleading menu, expensive.

Me and my husband enjoy the steak, its the best in singapore so far and their baby back rib is to die for. We also love the hand cut fries theres a secret magic ingredients i don’t know what it is, its just taste so yummy. Im getting hungry and craving while i’m writing this. Can’t wait t come back. The only thing that needs to be improve is the people, they don’t share the same passion as the owner, they are not even smiling and most of them are frowning.

The place and food is great. Shout out to their pumpkin soup and salmon fish. Good service and staff are really very friendly. The place is at 32 South Bouna Vista Road just opposite one bus stop so it is convenient. Highly recommended.

We are usually big fans of Smokey's, but went last night for the Thanksgiving dinner and were really disappointed. The whole meal tasted processed, like they'd opened up a box in the kitchen and slid the contents onto the plate. The soup was watery and tasted like it came from a package. The turkey wasn't fresh, but rather the sliced turkey loaf that comes in a tube from the deli counter. The sides were pretty meagre, 3-4 green beans, 3-4 dice sized cubes of pumpkin, 3 paper thin slices of 'cornbread' (that tasted nothing like cornbread)... And the dessert was listed on the menu as apple cobbler but was instead a square of spiced apple cake that tasted like it came from an Entenmann's box. Overall, it was not the quality we would have expected from Smokey's.

WOW!! OMG!! What happened? The good, nice, friendly Smokey's that we once knew is totally gone and nolonger in existence. Went there for dinner with my family & it turned out to be a complete disappointment. Your restaurant manager - Iris - must have had a horribly bad week & equally appalling weekend to be outwardly showing her displeasure & attitude, making uncalled for remarks and comments. Service was rushed, curt, almost non existent, and your restaurant wasn't even running a full house! OMG!! Had Smokey's turned into a mental torture themed restaurant? There no reason to treat your guests so badly. Thank you for screwing up our family dinner and messing up our evening. It must be such a delight & pleasure for your restaurant, and your restaurant management.

Terrible service right from the start we entered the restaurant. We went to the south buona vista branch on 3/11/16. Was served by a Filipino female server (or is she the manager?) We felt like we weren't welcome at all. Impatient and rude. There were only few tables of diners that night, so I do not see a busy night as an excuse for bad customer service. Bill came wrong too, and she was non apologetic and even came over to question me.. She succeeded in ruining our night.

I visited the Smokey's in Joo Chiat the other night. I'd heard so much about the ribs there and being a lover of the pork spare had to check em out. Ordered the 2/3 St Louise Pork Spare with fries and slaw and I was.... unimpressed! :( The ribs were very overcooked. Not only did they fall off the bone but the meat was quite 'mushy'. I have a feeling they may have been boiled... I pray I'm wrong! Folks... if the meat just falls off the bone- as in the bone slides effortlessly out- they're overcooked. Just sayin! Half my fries were just fine.... fresh and hot. But the other half were a good 20-30 minutes old. So new batch got mixed with old batch... Dont you hate that?! And the slaw... while cabbage etc nice and crunchy, was drowning in dressing. When I'd finished the veges the bowl was still half full of liquid. But on a positive, great location and ambiance. The outdoor seating area is lovely and breezy and the bar inside is truly US of A with TV's to watch games etc. But I wanted good ribs!!! :( Maybe the night I was there the chef's mind was elsewhere so I'm gonna give Smokey's another try. But if I'm fed the same sludge again I'll never go back

Not that bad as what others commented! But price is slightly high taking into consideration of the location, and is not so convenient for people that don't drive.

Went there around 11.10am on a Sunday. (13.08.17) Was told it opens only at 11.30am instead and therefore waited near the place till 11.30am although it clearly states on this fb page of theirs as 11am the opening timing. OK nevermind, waited till 11.35 and finally was told by the waitress whom was busy smoking that this place is open but kitchen only opens at 12 noon and we can just sit and order drinks instead. Ps* this was told by the waitress who didn't even bother to come and tell us nicely but was instead standing in the smoking corner, smoking away and just telling us all this information in a very unfriendly manner. Frustrated to wait so long though the opening time is already stated as 11, furthermore given the information of the kitchen opening hours only after we waited for 20 minutes or so. Walked away immediately because of this and also because of the unacceptable behaviour of their waitress. The food might have been good or might have not been, not sure since we didn't get to taste, but definitely not a wonderful experience.
