This lovely little hideout is easily one of the best sushi bars in Singapore. It's a small cosy place with mostly bar seatings. Nothing fancy except for the quality food and warm hospitality from Chef Ben himself and Jenny, his assistance. Don't order from the menu. Go with omakase. You will not regret it at all.

My family & I have been following Chef Ben for many, many years. It's always a pleasure dining at his restaurants. Good service, good food, and good experience all the time. I had my Bachelorette's lunch party at Matsuya Sushi Bar and my girlfriends were wow-ed over by the Omakase lunch prepared by Chef Ben that day. I won't hesitate to bring more people over to dine at Matsuya Sushi Bar, as long as Chef Ben is there! Thank you Chef Ben, for always taking care of us. :)

Had the Chirashi Don this evening and different from the typical high-end mass market Japanese restaurant, the chef did not just load up on thick chunks of salmon sashimi but gave a good balance of swordfish and white fish. Through the conversation with Executive Chef Benson, I was amazed that he did not receive any training overseas but had simply learnt from Japanese chefs locally. I would highly recommend the Chirashi Don.

Thank you Chef Benson and team for having us tonight. The freshness of the food is undeniable and the intricacies of dishing out every single dish is immaculate and heartfelt. The restaurant was not very packed, and just nice for a nice conversation. There is private room for diners too. The food is one of the best I had.

Really good omakase for dinner. Lots of fresh uni and sashimi with very course. Includes snow crab and wagyu beef. Overall great value for money given the courses served.

Treated to a sumptuous omakase menu riding on friend's recommendation. Overall quality is really high level, most of the dishes are a delight to the tastebud, the most ordinary dish might be the pan-fried fish. The sashimi simply melts in your mouth, the apetitiser sets the tone when we were treated to a variety of flavours for the opening dish. Just when we thought that we couldn't eat anymore, the noodles dish turned out to be the epic ending, easily the best dish for the evening's menu. Although we were full, the beef bowl was highly recommended, we ordered one to share and it was so good that we simply gobbled it down despite being full from the servings. Speaks volume of the quality!

The 5 courses were excellent. The eggs stole the show. The boss loved the beef and egg. She was over the moon especially with the poached egg soaked in the rice. The shark soup broth was rich and tasty. For the boss the tuna was fatty and on point.

Good first experience with tonight's omakase. Just go and enjoy the great food and not be too bothered with the place that has not-much-of an ambience or service. It was quite stuffy and we were told they have no control over the central air-conditioning. There seems to be only one wait staff. Value for money 8 course $128/pax #omakase #Sashimi #Japanesedining

Very nice quiet restaurant with excellent service and fresh food. As per picture sequence, we had the uni and chutoro sashimi, the matsuya special maki and grilled lamb. Both sashimi were very fresh. All their sushi and sashimi comes with freshly grated wasabi (a must have for any good restaurant that serves sashimi). The uni comes with seaweed slices, which the waitress recommended we eat this by rolling the uni and some wasabi inside. I like this interesting way of eating, but the uni is also good enough on its own. The chutoro is soft but just slightly chewy in texture. I like that each slice is quite thick. The matsuya special maki was good too. The layer of crispy skin rolled inside the maki still remained crispy till the last bite despite being wrapped in rice and lathered in sauce. The unagi on top is warm and soft, adding a nice contrast to the texture of each bite. The grilled lamb was surprisingly soft as well, despite being rather thin cut and grilled to a crispy exterior. I feel that alone, the maki is a bit too sweet and the lamb a bit too salty, but when ordered together, they very nicely balance each other out. Overall, highly recommend and would definitely be back.
