Review Singapore Fried Hokkien Mee - Singapore

Retronala
Not too bad if you wanna get your fix of Hokkien Mee at night as they open till 130am. But when I got mine tonight, it's abit too salty to my liking. No wok hey kinda taste. The one in Beach Road Market is better, for comparison.

One of the oldest Hokkien Mee stalls around (You can no longer register a hawker stall name with the word "Singapore" in it - This shows the age of the stall) However, whilst the stall has loads of heritage, the flavor of the Hokkien Mee is not much of a standout. To be fair, it's not a bad dish, but the execution and rendition is nothing spectacular. The service is also not the most friendly or approachable, as several others have mentioned before too. The Hokkien Mee comes with cut chili and the chili sauce at the side is packed with garlic. These add some dimension to the dish but otherwise it's quite a plain normal hokkien mee, quite indistinguishable from any other hawker stall. Do try it for the heritage (do mind the Queues!), But don't have high expectations!

This hokkien mee stall had been around for quite some time. The prawn broth use for the noodle taste bland, the chilli is also quite normal

I took away a $6 portion of the Hokkien mee and portion wise, I’d say that it’s big enough for 2 people. The Hokkien mee was good and it’s the type where it had quite abit of zhup, so if you prefer a drier version this is probably not for you. I don’t think there’s anything special or worth the long queue, just tasted like… a normal Hokkien mee that you can buy from any store. The store opposite or tian tian Hokkien mee does it waaaaay better (I take my Hokkien mee very seriously cause it’s one of my favourite hawker food)

You definitely can’t miss this stall as they occupied 2 units in the hawker center in the food center. This stall seems pretty popular as there was a queue shortly after they start operation. The fried Hokkien mee comes in several portions and prices starts from SGD$4 onward. I had the smallest portion which was SGD$4. The plate of Hokkien mee came with a few pieces of squid, and 2 tiny prawns. Squid wasn’t that fresh, texture was soft. Their Hokkien mee is the wetter type kind. Noodle did manage to soak up all the goodness of the broth however something just felt lacking in terms of taste. They provide both the sambal and sliced chili.

Creamy hokkien mee with gravy (wet type) that’s too good to not try though the thunder and lightning is always captured by the stall diagonally opposite

It’s an above average hokkien Mee and value-for-money considering I got a big plate for $5. Chilli is good, queue is fast and the sauce is full of flavour though it still lacks wok hei.
