So we got take-out from the new Zion Road location (River Valley) last night, and let me tell you... SO GOOD!!
First, picking from the menu. The lady at the counter (I think maybe the owner?) saw us looking at the menu. Once she realised that we had never had Peranakan food, she walked us through the menu, pointing out what we might like based on the type of things we liked. We loved that attention to our needs.
Next, the money situation. We ordered our food and popped in for a quick beer next door while we waited. Once we came to collect and pay, we realised they were only taking cash payments that night. We, of course, had no cash. The lady who took our order said "No problem! The most important thing is that you enjoy the food. You pay tomorrow!" - we couldn't believe it, she never saw us before! In most places this would have been a super awkward situation, but she was so kind. We really appreciated this attitude, and could tell she genuinely wanted us to enjoy our meal. TOP POINTS!
Finally, the food. OK I have never had Peranakan food before so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I have to say the food was fantastic!! I had the Ayam Buah Keluak and it was super tasty. The sauce was thick (but not too much) and flavourful, and the chicken was well cooked. There was also lots of chicken, not just two or three pieces. My husband had Beef Rendang which was also lovely, again - lots of meat and tasty sauce. We shared a fried rice with seafood in it (can't remember the name). Huge portion and so yummy! I could have eaten the rice on its own for my meal.
Over all we had a great experience here. Give it a try, we highly recommend it!
Had my reunion dinner last night at Simply Peranakan!! Superb service and food was delicious!!
Shireen was very attentive and observant towards our needs, checking if we wanted rice to go with the curry, serving water when she heard the kids saying “mama, i have finished my water..”
Simply Peranakan is not just serving food, they are really into customer service! Strongly recommend this place for all events from family gathering, friends gathering, bringing guests from other countries etc!
Great place and addition to the neighborhood. For those, like me, who get very tired of how bland Singaporean Chinese food can be ... this is far more sophisticated.
This is our 3rd visit, and we've enjoyed the food every time. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Our favorite dishes include the Chap Chye, Ngoh Hiang, Assam Fish Head Curry, Sambal Pomfret and Prawn Paste Chicken. For dessert, try the ubikayu and chendol.
Amazing food and good service I found the bakwang kepiting, fish head curry, buah keluak and chap Chye to be truly authentic and very delicious.
Definitely a place to try Peranakan Food if you haven't. Portions are huge and affordable. There are a lot of great non spicy dishes and lady boss will always be happy to adhere to any special request for your dishes.
Don't forget to cool down your meal with their Chendol! Did I mention free flow Gula Melaka?!?!
Always can count on their family style warm service to all their clients. Food is definitely authentic and tasty!! Assam fish head is a must and so is their cold crab!
Most dishes are so awfully tasty, staff are friendly and smiley and most of all the services are super good.
So delicious - amazing kind staff :) it was nice to be helped with picking food and everything was so good
Nice and homely place and great Peranakan food! It's a favourite with my kids and family.
Hidden treasure at Punggol Settlement! Loved the beef rendang and meat ball soup (bakwang kepeting). Ayam buah keluak was flavorful and Seafood Mee sua had lotsa seafood and mee sua was springy and soft at the same time. We also like how you can control how sweet the Chendol can be. Will be back!
