Review Islamic Restaurant - Singapore

Outstanding experience. This a 100 year old restaurant has a very interesting history.Governors,Kings and the elite have been their patrons. One of the finest Biryani I have had in recent times.A must while you are Singapore.

I feel that it's more like to experience the history of this place rather than for the food. Chicken Biryani is slightly average and price wise is definitely on the high side. Will visit the shop again when I have overseas friends visiting but not for normal occasion as there's better biryani out there.

Islamic restaurant is a 96 years old food outlet now run by third generation of Abdul Rahiman family. They primarily serve North Indian cuisine with local Malay/Singaporean adaptation. I have been visiting this place for years and one thing this place is really famous for is their Biryani. We ordered Chicken Biryani, Fish curry, plain rice and Ice Lemon tea during our recent visit. As expected their Biryani was superb with juicy chicken, long grain rice, achar and curry to go along. Quantity was sufficient for one person. Fish curryi was OK. Due to renovation none of the tandoori items like Naan or North Indian dishes like Chicken curry or stew were available. They might take a few weeks to complete renovation. Ice lemon tea was not fresh and should be avoided. Service was fine Internal decor and ambience is retro style and looks beautiful. Simple dinner for two costed SGD 32.5 Overall worth visiting for Biryani and Instagram worthy pics of retro decor.

Been awhile since I last dined here. Well today's experience, food wise only, was a total disappointment. The quality and taste of the food have gone down the drain. The biryani rice, mutton and dhal were all tasteless and bland. The only saving grace was that the mutton was tender, which is why I accord a 2 star rating instead of 1 star. Total bill for the biryani set was approximately $20.30 - definitely not worth the money paid. You can get better biryani elsewhere at more reasonable prices. Would I return again? Definitely not!

Over a half century of my age and this is the first time I sat in here. First experienced was to let people cut in my queue. When the door opened, was greeted by take out patrons. A staff came, greeted us and locate to our seats. First glanced at the menu was a set menu (highly recommended). The Mutton Briyani tasted okay, edible, not sort of extra ordinary but the texture of the mutton was tender (kudos). Ambience was great. Overall I give 4.2 🌟. Would I return? Yes, if I happens to be around the vicinity and hungry.

The rice was perfectly executed while mutton was tender just like it was when I first ate it years ago! However $15 for a measly portion of meat and rice is incredibly overpriced. Guess I won't be a frequent visitor anymore🙃

An institution in Kampong Glam. Amazing briyani, huge portions. The fried chicken was also excellent. No reservations - turn up and grab a table. The service is fast and efficient and you can then go on a diet for the rest of the day! Very filling and tasty!

Thanks to Adrian who always suggest a 4-stop foodtour but only finish at stop 2. The restro has a lot to be proud of, location, reputation, community, food layout, authentic look and feel.. I have always been into cozy and relaxing places and this one brings the feel. Just a quick dine in but frens got a lot of photos. They like to recors the gathering and smiling moment but it is a fact that every corner in the restro is carefully placed w decors and details that trigger your phone cam anytime. Ỏ just because the restro is relatively small and they have too much to offer 😂 Would point this put to vietnamesw frens coming to town.

Chicken Briyani the chicken breast was over cooked and dry, without much flavor. Rice was dry and felt salty and couldn’t make out the spice. Curry was just salty and without much depth in the spice. The experience felt like imbibing salt and curry powder with somewhat textures of rice and chicken, and for a while the word cardboard even leapt into my brain. I used to be a fan of Islamic Briyani in the past, presently I guess not.

Had a terrible experience today. Picked a couple of dishes one of which was chicken kurma. When it was served, I asked if the chicken could be changed to the chicken thigh but server said no because the chicken breast was already cut. I left it as it is since I didnt ask them for thigh initially (though it would be nice if they had asked before serving). Instead of eating the chicken dish, I had asked them to pack together with one serving of biryani rice. Much to my horror, i was given the plastic to pack the chicken dish myself since it is their policy not to pack food that was already served. I think it is quite rude especially since server knows we didnt eat the chicken. Lady at cashier even got the cheek to say "i think the service is good" when I told her it is not good service to ask ur customer to pack the food themselves. For an established restaurant, it was quite an ugly experience. Not returning for sure. Was quite disappointing since I brought my mum for a nice afternoon and walked away feeling horrible

Islamic is pioneer in serving beriyani - good, delicious beriyani with lots of masala. My family and I patronise the place since I was knee high. Must trys are the mutton mysore, mutton and chicken korma, fish cutlets. The dalca comes with each serving of beriyani. Catering or home delivery servings are just as good. Left over dalca and rice? No problem. Islamic foods lasts for weeks in the fridge or freezer. Easy to heat up and ready to eat again. Ambience is cosy and warm. In the evening its a nice place to snuggle up with loved ones on the comfortable seats while savouring Islamic beriyani. Btw, its a place fit for a King. If you hv problems and dont feel like a King when you patronise the place, then something is wrong with you. Not the place.

Got a giant bone when ordering the mutton briyani and was told by the waiter, Nizam, that it was a norm for such a large bone to be served instead of meat. Drastic drop in standards over the years. Absolutely rubbish for what I'm paying. Had to buy 2 servings to fill me up. Photo of the bone in the comments.

Just had mutton briyani this evening. Nothing wrong with the food (quite ordinary fare actually). What shocked us was the bill. I had earlier requested that my mutton be served separately i.e. not inside the rice, as I don't like my rice to be soggy and spicy with the gravy. I was charged separately for the rice and the mutton, with the total a little bit more than the cost of one plate. I asked if the quantity differed; the cashier said no, it was the same, just 2 separate plates. I told him had I known, I could have just asked for a small plate and remove the mutton from the rice myself! There was no attempt to resolve the matter other than the cashier confirming that it's their normal practice. Definitely unbecoming of a well-known establishment. We will not return.

The mutton briyani is good. Tried naan with keema and the keema doesn’t taste good.

Just bought 5 mutton packets from you guys, taste not there, disapointed with the standard nothing compared to how it was back then & its $10+ per packet, not worth it at all.

You guys really need to work on your customer service. The staff was rude when taking orders and the attitude was as though we had our food and had no money to pay. The mutton briyani was good but overpriced. But then again if the service had been good, the price wouldn't have bothered much. Overall I hope you guys realise service plays a very important role in your business. I would have actually given a 2 star rating. Look at the other reviews and a lot of them are talking about your customer service. This is the digital age where people tend to read reviews and check online on the ratings about a restaurant which matters a lot. Good food alone doesn't cut it.

I have never come across with such an attitude from a restaurant. I have not been to Islamic Restaurants for about 15 years. On 3/3/2016 I was with my friends and we're discussing about food and the restaurant was mentioned for their Briyani. I decided to taste the food on the very next day that is today the 4th March I reached North Bridge Road about 12.40pm. There was no parking and later about 15 mins. 12.55pm I was at the the door step and a one staff came out and closed the shutter 1/2 way down and said they were going for prayers. I told him I came all the way here and am very hungry and an a diabetic and also have taken my medicine and injection. He said we are going for prayers. There were many of them eating inside the restaurant. They couldn't accommodate 2 of us. 10 mins later the boss or Manager and few staff went for prayers. I confronted them and Was told it's Friday and it's prayer time. I do not understand how they neglect the customers and can just go for the prayers. Prayers are IMPORTANT but when someone is hungry and want food and they just neglect you. I find that is very.................. I would like to suggest to your restaurant, pls employ staff to be responsible and serve customer during your operating hours. As 1pm to 2 pm is a lunch hour. If you can't please close your restaurant on Fridays. Please do not be offended. I was very disturbed as such things are still happening in Singapore. Especially for a reputable food outlet. Thank you.

Hello! what has happened?!!!.Over-priced,bad service, doesn't taste like briyani .I recall your airport branch and the old shop at North bridge rd.Huge difference from those good old days.So disappointing the generations cannot maintain the minimum standard.

Cannot get simple orders right and the food is not that great anyway. Go if you are really that desperate

Islamic is not what it used to be. Briyani not as fresh. Poor portions especially for extras i.e. Dalcha. Not worth the price anymore.
