Review Saboten - Singapore

Did lunch here and it was great value. With lunch menu ordered, I get to order a coke and a chawanmushi at just 1 dollar each. Happy that the $1coke is a full can!!! The $1 chawanmushi has corn in it, delicious. My lunch set is nice of cos, with free flow cabbage and rice. The place is also super clean, the sauces bottles are well maintained, service is OK to me as I was busy talking to my friend. Will come back again. 😊

My pictures don't do it justice. I absolutely love this place. Love the cabbage with goma dressing!!!! And guess what, free refills for miso soup, rice and cabbage. We ordered the grilled chicken and the Pork Tonkatsu. It was both great - meat is tender, juicy and crispy on the outside. So yummy! The service was excellent as well. Do visit this place if you're around here. You def won't regret it

Excellent food and service. Their specialty is the tonkatsu and it's a must-try if you're visiting. The meat was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, while not being too unpleasantly tough. The sets offered during lunch hours give the food great value as most of them are actually the same items on the menu minus one or two sides but you save more than $5. Service was top-notch too, and justifies the higher price you're paying as this restaurant is considered upscale. Waiters were attentive, fast with service, and extremely polite. Highly recommended for great Japanese Tonkatsu!!

Free flow of salad and rice, crispy fried pork loin with 2 delicious sides. Even though the food is a little pricey, it was really delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. P.s you can use fave pay to get cashback so as to save on the bill for future visits!

Dependably consistent tonkatsu. For a healthier alternative to the heavy tonkatsu sauce, try the gozen.... The cool grated daikon is a wonderful counterpoint to the crispy tonkatsu batter. The pork here is soft, seasoned with balance, and always wrapped in dependably crispy panko crust. We've found the flavours here much more consistent than ma maison.

This meal nearly did me in! 😝 I usually order the pork loin but this time decided to go for the Iberico pork. Feeling greedy so went for the ‘variety’ set. The pork was more tender. The different fried items (prawn and cream croquette) also made the meal un-boring. I held back on getting a 2nd helping of rice (😔), instead filled up on the crisp cabbage. In hindsight I shouldn’t have - coz the (v addictive) sesame dressing might had had equal or more calories.... 🤷‍♀️

Have alway love their pork tonkatsu , that comes with free flow cabbage (cold) . I love their cabbage too because it is shredded so thinly n served ice cold... so delicious, i would at least have 2 serving everytime. Price is reasonable too .

Unlimited salad, soup and rice if u order main. I like salad sauce(sesami). Staff act very fast.

Visited Saboten Express at Raffles City on Thurs last week to grab quick lunch with a friend. One would usually associate Japanese branded restaurants with excellent service but apparently that was not the case for this fast food joint. Mind you I had been to Saboten quite a few times previously this so the wonderful image I had of this place had been utterly shattered after this visit. I must say even the one at JEM with a takeaway counter was better since they at least had a system. This one really MAS! I ordered the loin set and asked the grumpy looking cashier whether it came with miso soup and her only reply was a resounding “DON’T HAVE”! Almost felt like I was asking her to give me her life savings or something. Ok fine so I paid up then took a seat at one of the tables (which are crammed closer together than in a HDB coffeeshop) and we waited for our orders. Actually we did not even know our order was ready because there was no order number or tag given to us other than our receipts. So I kept looking at the counter for some indication and the guy behind the counter was standing there with a tray in front of him. Only thing is I had no idea whether that tray was mine. It was only when I stood up to ask whether that was my order that the guy confirmed it was ready. Now comes the best part. The cashier started telling the other customers after me that the soup was not yet ready and to wait for a while. So it turned out that there was soup after all! Then I noticed that you had to order one of the set lunches to get the miso soup and green tea. Perhaps the menu was in my blind spot when I walked in so that was my mistake but I think the cashier could have at least highlighted that I had the option of ordering a set lunch if I wanted soup. But all she did was to give me a 2 word answer without offering any kind of alternative. Nothing whatsoever. The most bizarre thing was the lack of any organized system (which even a fast food burger chain like Mos Burger has) and the non-existent service. Definitely not the Saboten I used to know. My suggestion for the management is to invest in an automated ordering system and get rid of the front counter staff because they are a waste of wages. Only saving grace for this place was that the food itself was actually pretty decent. Anyway I don’t think I would ever come back to this place again (well not this branch definitely)!

E manager on duty - Vince have a damn lousy attitude.. He served e portion of soup which was so little so I request for some top up.. His immediate response was - this is our standard serving.. If there is a top up.. I need pay for $2.. After sometime of boiling, e soup went even lower till I can't cook my raw beef.. I again ask for some soup from e other staff!! She said e manager says I need pay for $2 for top up.. I said is not a top up.. It's not even sufficient to cook e balance raw meat.. Then Vince the manager said, if we choose not to pay for food.. He will called e police!! hello, is this how customer service works n I can't believe it's from e manager on duty!!!!

I visited Saboten at 313 Somerset outlet on 16 March 2017 for dinner, overall the staff's attitude and their customer service is positive while their quality of food is fresh. I would like to compliment a few staff, one of them named Alan. 1. I was coughing badly while looking at the menu at the entrance. He suggested to offer me a glass of water. 2. He went extra mile to find ointment for burn as I accidentally scalded my thumb. 3. A senior female staff was also helpful by giving recommendation treatment to the scald and initiated to offer refill tea and cabbage. 4. Another female staff was very patient during clearing the table as I was having the last bit. 5. A young male staff was polite when he was asking permission to remove the sauces for top up. Do keep up the standard of service and food quality.

Visited 100AM outlet. After ordering, we waited for 1 hour. No drinks, chawanmushi and cabbage was served during the period we were waiting for the food. Decided to check with the staff after the long wait and they provided the tea and cabbage. We noticed that other customers who came in after us were promptly served tea and cabbage immediately after ordering. We had also requested the staff to top up a second round of tea and cabbage. The staff had noted but failed to come round to serve. Appreciate if the staff's service could be more attentive and have basic rule of thumb to serve the side dishes first and not expect customers to wait hungry.

Today was the first time my best friend and I dined at Saboten at 313Somerset, but it definitely won't be the last time. We ordered a 'Mix and Match' set meal each, with mini tenderloin and cheese tenderloin. The meat was juicy and the cheese was savoury, oozing out with every bite. While fried food tends to be greasy and heavy, the tenderloin patties were delicious! I also loved the fluffy steamed rice and refreshing cold shredded cabbage which I drizzled with sesame sauce, as well as the complimentary warm green tea (free flow, no less! ). Kudos to the service staff on duty who were very attentive and took the initiative to refill our tea, and were friendly and approachable throughout.

Just had a very satisfying lunch at the 100AM branch. Service is good, the meat is really very good, it's almost like melt in your mouth, the chawamushi and the dessert are also very good, free flow of cabbage and tea.

Visited Saboten at 100AM, was impressed by the manager, Kelvin, for his excellent customer service. His greetings towards all the customers he served were loud, confident and warm. His actions were swift and accurate. We wanted to top up rice, cabbage and green tea and we told him all at one go, he was able to get all done within 3 min without missing out on any of it. Keep up the good work!!! Such excellent customer service should be recognised. :)

Had lunch at Somerset 313 outlet today. All staff were very friendly and attentive. Especially when it comes to the drinks. The staff topped up the drinks upon seeing that our drinks were running low. They even greeted us goodbye when we left the restaurant. Not something you will see in most restaurants in Singapore today. Thank you for the wonderful lunch experience !

Went to Changing Airport T1 outlet. Took awhile to get waitress attention to take order. Waited for more than 45 mins for my order to b served. People around my tables who ordered later were served n finished n left. Asked 4 different waiter/ress abt the food still not served..only till I had to raised my voice then the 4th waitress finally decided to investigate why.. came bk replied abruptly that bcos my order was missing. No apology offered. She answered "If u r not happy I ll let my manager know" Manager came, apologised for the delay. Can hear the kitchen staff shouting, " Hurry up la, customer scolding.." is this supposed to be one of the best Japanese restaurant in the world as claimed!!! I will never step in again!

2nd visit at 313 outlet last night. This time I brought 3 friends. Food is good quality and resaonably priced. Salad and rice free flow. Excellent customer service by a pretty tall lady with braces (sorry I didn't see your name) and Alan. V quick in refills, clearing table etc. Definitely a place to go if you want a good dining experience.

Went to the Changi Airport Terminal 1 outlet for dinner. When we asked for refill of rice, they gave the rice to us in the bowl used to serve sesame seeds (the bowl with all the grooves inside). I guess it was probably because they ran out of the usual rice bowls. When my friend was almost finishing the rice, he saw that there was a lot of ground sesame seed residue stuck in the grooves at the bottom of the bowl! Means the bowl was not washed properly before the rice was put in. Extremely unhygienic and absolutely disgusting. I then told one of the waitresses (a young Indian lady, not sure of her name as she was not wearing any name tag) about it and she nonchalantly just took the bowl and walked away, no comments, no apology, no nothing. I told her to let her manager know about it but she just walked away while I had not even finished talking yet. She did not come back with any response whatsoever after that. Do service staff not care about hygiene at all? Hygiene is the top priority in the food business! All service staff and kitchen crew should make sure that plates, bowls and utensils are decently clean before putting them on the table for customers. And when customers give feedback about the cleanliness of utensils, such feedback should not be taken lightly and just brushed under the carpet. I hope that the Saboten management can inculcate your service staff and kitchen crew with the right mentality towards cleanliness, hygiene, and service to customers.

One of the worst Tonkatsu set ever tasted ! went 313 to try out for dinner this evening at around 8pm and the tonkatsu came with batter that broke off when touched ! dry pork and when highlighted to staff, staff came and got it replaced but took another 15 mns and everything became cold due to the waiting. Very poor service by one male staff, unhappy face , no smile at all when asked for second salad helping and when asked for tea ! staff are obviously very frustrated. this is a real shame for a Japanese restaurant, even the hawker stall is more polite ! the parent company should know whats happening here ! also the same guy when I paid at cashier had a black face when I paid and I asked him , ' dont you ever say a word of thank you when a customer pays " he just looked at me, no wonder only 3 tables at the restaurant occupied. Who would go with poor food and poor service ?? I for sure with my wife would never return for second time. A real shame for a so called well known Jap restaurant. The management ought to wake up.

Dinner on 2nd Dec at Somerset313 outlet. Despite the crowds on weekend and obviously short of service staffs . I do see great effort from the manager & team to provide their best & efficient serving. Manager make every effort to greet n bid goodbye to every customers even at multi task stage. This team deserve some credits for making good effort!

Terminal 1 - got us to change from chicken to pork because they ran out. Pork is more expensive and they didn't give discount.

Very good service and delicious food. I love the green tea ice cream!

Food was good, however service was mediocre. They don't seem to take the initiative to remove bowls that customers are done eating. Not even when they come to your table with newly served food items, they too don't bother to clear the empty bowls away.Always have to call them to the table in order to do so. When some staff can be just walking about with no customers to attend to at the time. So with the big serving trays, when you order ala-carte items on top of your main set meals, there are no place on your table to place them. Ordered sake but was given beer instead. When I clarified with the server, he just asked "I already opened the beer bottle, so how?". He should have asked if I still want my sake then and change my drink to the right order without questions asked.
