Review Ps. Cafe - Singapore

Howard P
Slightly disappointing. The decor is excellent and the staff were very nice, but the quality of the food and the pricing were really off. It's positioned as a 'petit' version of the regular PS Cafe so they serve everything in 'to go' packaging (boxed sandwiches, coffee in cardboard). That, in itself, is fine, but the prices remain as high as the dine-in experience at a 'normal' PS Cafe. If I'm drinking from a to-go cup and eating out of a bag I'd expect the price to reflect this. What's worse is the "bunwich" options were not very good at all. Sausage and onion in a bap sounds excellent but the sausage skin was so thick it was inedible, and there was so much sauce it was off-putting. Beautiful building and decor but disappointing food and pricing.

Actually PS Cafe cover lot of places in Singapore mostly in shopping mall. But Tiong Bahru branch is uniquely situate at the residential area. It is a small place only can cater about 20 customers in one time. You need to take queue during peak period. I was sitting in one corner with a window view. The sight outside the shop is so senenity, tranquility and calm. You can often see someone walking dog and people walking by. With the warm heat outside the window and the cool air inside the shop. With a piece of cake and a cup of caffeine and 1 or 2 friends chatting . It feel so relaxing.

Nice looking place, cosy atmosphere. Learnt from the friendly staff that this place only offered to-go because of licensing issues in the past, but continued with the concept till current times. Food are all served in takeaway boxes/bowls even when eating there, which is just a theme with the cafe because the tables in the cafe itself are labelled "takeaway waiting area". Even the menu is called the "takeaway menu" when eating there, which confused me a little initially. Personally I have no issues with the "takeaway" concept, but I skipped the burger because I'd rather eat a burger with proper utensils. Note that you might want to pick a bigger table if you're going to have the pizza because the pizza box is going to need a lot of table space. Because of this takeaway style concept, food items are all net pricing, with no service charge. This was a pleasant surprise for me. Price is a little high, but food quantity is quite generous and quality is mostly good. Really liked the truffle fries (half portion is good enough for 2pax) and bolognese pizza. However the shrimp and crab pasta was a little too bland for my liking. Overall a good experience, would visit again.

The ambience is great and the staff are super nice, but the food is very expensive, especially given the fact that all food is served in to-go boxes. Quality of the food is good, but not exceptional. You are better off going to one of the actual PS cafes.

Pizza was great despite serving out of the pizza box! More of a takeaway place with limited choices. Have a good collection of wines and cakes though.

Coffee is expensive, but larger size than nearby places. It is nice to have a bigger coffee. They need a loyalty card to complete. Staff usually have energy and appear to enjoy their jobs, which is vital if you want to sell me something I already have in my house. It is well explained that they serve food in takeaway boxes. We get it. But the box lids make it hard to eat on small tables shared between two. And eating from a box sucks - not ergonomic. Maybe try nice disposable plates, rather than boxes? And the wooden cutlery sticks to your tongue, and food sticks to the wood. Not great. Atmosphere is much better now that the gvt allows soft music 👍

Loved the atmosphere and staff were friendly. However food is on the pricey side (expect to spend min $30 per pax) even though everything was served in takeaway boxes and you have to order at the counter. Quality of the food was decent but again, a bit overpriced imo.

Very courteous staff. Beautiful decor. Lots of bottles of wine and champagne to buy and drink on the spot or take home. Speaking of take home, all food ordered here comes in to go boxes but you can eat it on the premises. Same goes for the coffee. It's a bit quirky but apparently it's a neighborhood licensing issue. But the ambience makes up for it. Be sure to admire the huge slices of cake on display and if you're feeling like splurging (those are per slice prices) I'm sure they are delicious.
