Review Winestone - Singapore

What a great find this place was! Highly recommended. Food: We had a 4-course set menu that was part of an extended Valentine's Day promotion. The salads, soups, lobster & risotto main, and the desserts were all delicious and beautifully presented. Value: $88++ for the 4-course menu with a $28++ 3-hour free flow top-up per person for a choice of house white or red wine represented excellent value to us. Service: Tremendous throughout. Very attentive and friendly staff - among the best service received in a restaurant in Singapore in many months. Ambience/decor: It is a finely appointed restaurant space with a couple of cool bars and wine displays. The background music was well curated and set at just the right volume. There was a nice buzz in the atmosphere from the busy restaurant floor with many happy patrons.

Service was great. Has quite a decent number of items on the menu. Calamari was nicely fried, juicy and nice. The beef cheek was tender, OH so awesome, the sauce on the beef cheek pasta was also very delightful... The vegetarian penne was so so... In fact the penne was a bit hard. Felt that it could be not fully cooked. All in all, it's still a fantastic experience. Will definitely explore to go back again.

Excellent service. The service team was extremely thoughtful we ordered half a dozen of oysters for 4 pax so they decided to give us 2 on the house so that everyone could have 2 each. Service overall was 11/10. Kudos. Friendly and attentive. The food could be better though. The ribeye was very average and tasted like something you can get at Astons. Also the gluten free pasta was just way too hard even after we got them to cook it longer. One strong recommendation is the lobster bisque and the cod. I really like those. Used my Accor voucher so I got 50% off. In terms of value for money, definitely HELL YEAH. I would actually give 4.5 if I could. But 4 stars for now for room for improvement.

I am a pizza fan, so was looking forward to eating here. Generally, the food was of a good standard, using fresh ingredients. The bread was fresh, but did have a slightly heavy doughy consistency. I loved the fennel and avocado salad, but did not really taste much fennel. But the avocado slices and the arugula etc were fresh. My wife liked her porcini truffle soup. I went for the Rustica pizza with chorizo. It took longer to arrive than my wife’s beef cheek pasta, but it was freshly made and the olives gave a nice tartness to the dish. There was a little too much onions for me but, overall, it was a tasty dish. The beef cheek pasta was okay and the meat was fork tender, but my wife felt the sauce tasted more bovril-like, rather like a old school Hainanese beef hor fun. Service was friendly but the time between the starters and the mains was about 50 minutes, which was a tad long for lunch when diners might be in a hurry. The decor was okay and the dishes were presented well. The apple crumble was okay as well. A previous reviewer said there was free parking, but that is only at the hotel basement carpark and from 12-2 pm, whereas most diners would park at the paid surface lots next to the eatery. Moreover, the hotel carpark was not noticeable from the entrance, and there was quite a bit of renovations works at the entranceway. The hotel was also earmarked as a Covid-quarantine site and access was restricted.

Currently Mercure at Steven’s is a quarantine hotel but surprisingly there are some restaurants around here that are open for operations. We were impressed with the food quality and of course the free flow wine package. The catch is to order $100 worth of food for 2 pax to enjoy the wine package (casual drinker $28, wine lover $48 but no need minimum spending on food). The two types of Italian wines (red and white) are decent enough for pairing with the meal. Recommended if you like to pair some wine with your food. Casual drinkers could share a bottle of wine while the hardcore ones can go for the wine package.

This was really hard to rate given that it was not an abysmal disaster, but everything was just so unremarkable that it’s hard to be anything more than a one star. For a decent prosecco here, it is cheap. That’s it. The service was either non-existent or overbearing, neither in a terribly upsetting way, but that description is entirely accurate. Food, from appetisers to mains and the dessert we got pressed to order as we didn’t want to change locations to continue our conversation were all, very, flat. Seafood in the way of scallops, prawns and lobster were all frozen which accounted for the absence of any flavour and then over compensated in the risotto with too much cheese. The pasta was al dente that’s all to recommend it. The tomato olive focaccia did come with an interesting spice salt dip but was likely not fresh as it hardened up quite quickly. Dessert needless to say was pedestrian apply crumble with underbaked crust and too sweet sorbet on the side. It is unlikely the desserts are made in-house. Perhaps the meat dishes would have fared better, but from the 70% of the menu sampled, the benefit of the doubt would not persuade me to revisit this place. Truly, there are many places in this food haven city, Winestone is not one for the list.

Love the ambience, love the decor. We had the scottish salmon and pellegrino pizza which were both amazing. The salmon had a wonderfully crisp skin and paired really well with the crushed potatoes and sauce. The pellegrino pizza was just as delicious. Thin crust and overloaded with ingredients, we paired it with a white lady and red queen cocktail. Also, the drinks are strong. 😉 Ended with a molten chocolate cake which was not as molten as we would have liked, but did I mention the drinks are strong? Will be back!

Had a Valentine's Day set that was really generous for the price - full platter of Mediterranean food for sharing, dessert, and a whole bottle of prosecco. Service was impeccable with very friendly staff. Definitely recommended!
