Review Xperience Restaurant - Singapore

I almost never give a one-star review but this is a place to avoid. This is the restaurant in the lobby of the Sofitel So. Right now they’re running their annual Polish food festival. It’s the third time we’ve tried it, so shame on me for not remembering the previous disappointment. This time we tried their Easter menu. You have a choice of three or four items for $58 or $78++. The $78 version includes a slice of cheesecake… for twenty bucks. We went for the three-course option. Starting off, the bread was so dry, I needed to keep sipping water just to swallow it, and it was dusted with so much flour, it made a mess all over our hands and the table. The starter was a deviled egg. The egg wasn’t bad. It’s just that a single hard boiled egg doesn’t make for much of a starter. The salad was tiny and bland. Conversely, the soup (bialy barszcz) was super salty and didn’t have much in it. Google the name and compare what you see with the picture below. The sausages were okay but small for a main. The pork loin, which was the other main, was overcooked and dry. At least the mains were nicely plated. Since we passed on the cheesecake, we went for two glasses of wine. Their wine is reasonable but don’t expect much. The quality is pretty average. All in, for two mediocre meals and two glasses of table wine, it was $181. Just criminal. And the service was likewise pretty average. No engagement, no explanation of any of the dishes, one water refill over the course of an hour. They were good with clearing the plates. In fact, the whole meal was served in thirty minutes. Just don’t eat here, please. There are plenty of better restaurant options downtown.

Just had lunch here. We went for the 3 course menu. Let's start with the good. The offspring had beef tataki, crab cakes and the duck confit. The beef was well seasoned and portions were generous. Beautifully charred asparagus completed the dish. The crabcakes are not much to look at but were plump with fresh crab and the accompanying aioli was a winner. Duck confit was competent. My own choices tasted good but could have done with a whole lot more refinement. Chicken liver pate on toast needed a 5 dollar top up so it was rather a let down that it came thinly spread on a piece of sourdough (very good bread). Unceremoniously dumped on the plate and completely obscuring the pate was a whole plateful of rocket. The pate itself was good with pickles- there just should have been more of it. The rocket was also beautifully dressed but there should have been less of it. The visual appeal of the dish was lost and it lacked finesse. The mussel dish used fresh large meaty mussels with a lovely sauce. However, the onions and carrot should.have been cooked down more and were too roughly chopped. There was way too much chorizo which was also too roughly chopped again making it too rustic and lacking in finesse. The goreng pisang dessert is a winner. Service was friendly but patchy. The offspring's duck was served when he was just starting on his crabcakes which meant it was cold when he got to it and no bowl was provided for mussel shells till I asked. This is a restaurant that is lovely which serves good food at fair prices. I hope they can take the feedback into account and get even better!

Great place for a private and quiet dining. Food was fresh and delicious. Service staff Kishnu was professional, friendly and attentive. Thank you for the lovely Fri evening after a long week. Will be back for sure

AWESOME Szechuan Beef burger! ! Added an egg and melted cheese. Tender and juicy medium beef patty!. Grilled to perfection. Right amount of spiciness. Finished within 10 minutes. Will definitely come again.

Utter disappointment. We came for the mother of all brunches. It was the mother of all cheap ingredients & terrible food. It is nothing like their advertisements! Please save your time and money, it is better spent elsewhere.

*review of Flippin' Sundays at SO/Singapore* You know when you work your expectations up for something due to ads, photos and online marketing, plus the table reservation comes with a prepayment, ... and then it just doesn't work. Like really doesn't. I booked it as a part of Valentines weekend - sorry I am not cheap but won't spend 30$++ on a pancake stack on an ordinary day. I have never been inside the hotel but the building is gorgeous outside, hence my disappointment when I saw that the restaurant is actually more like a lobby area, and you're not sure if it is a restaurant or a breakfast place for hotel guests (both I guess?). Also not sure what vibe or design it wants to be. Coffee was not worth it (milky watery something) and came with a Nespresso spoon (not on the side, in the mug) in a mug that reminded me of camping days (fine for hip/ industrial cafes but not for what whatever this place wants to be). My pancakes came first, and my partner's long minutes later. Like awkwardly long later. We were not told they wouldn't come at the same time and we were also not told 'oh the second dish will be with you shortly'. Both came cold, not like 'ok it cooled down a bit since it came off the pan' but like 'I found these pancakes late evening from my morning breakfast' cold. They looked nothing like advertised and they tasted like they had been prepared the night before (at best) and not even reheated. Fine, I can expect food not looking remotely the same as advertised from McDonalds but not from a boutique hotel in the centre of CBD. My partner's stack looked just sad. The pancakes tasted more like crumpets, but more dense, and like crumpets that you find in your fridge a little too late for them to taste any good even when reheated and resuscitated. Mine had thick slices of onion, a lot of it!, some greens and some salmon and a poached egg that was meh. I guess the pancake filling was just onions as I could taste nothing but cold old powdery/dry pancakes and onion. It was a massive let down for what it costs and how it looks in the hotel's ads - it is made to look all glamorous and not like a casual hangout brunch. I am not a fine diner nor a foodie, but I enjoy good food in smaller portions (so quality over quantity) but can tell when my previous night's hawker meal was way better and warmer than a 30$ pancake stack. I ate less than half as felt bad not to, took the rest home as can't stand food wasting. Guess it will end up in the bin anyhow. I did not want to 'make a scene' and ruin my Sunday, but in hindsight should have just thanked the staff and leave, maybe forfeiting the 30$ table booking fee. Such a waste of money and I feel angry at myself I had such expectations and wanted to be there for a special occasion. Also, why the 30$ booking fee if the place was half empty? A massive no for me for the almost 90$ spent on two coffees and two stacks. Sorry SO/Singapore, wanted to love it or at least be 'ok but nothing to write home about' but just can't.

Had the 1-for-1 festive meal. Their starters were lacklustrous - bread was dry & quite burnt, their french or western dumpling was just salty meat inside - nothing compared to our chinese 饺子. The foie gras salad was alright but the best was their main course. The fish was succulent & the tomato paste was just right - not to sweet, not too sour. Beef cheeks were smooth & soft👍🏼 The dessert was a disaster. Super sour cranberry cake or something like that. Took a mouth & was done. Interior is nice. The side near the bar is well-lit whereas the area near the kitchen is dimmer - that's where we sat. Service was alright. Nothing to scream about. Overall a pleasant experience. Would go back if they have another 1-for-1 deal.

Not the best experience for brunch if you don't take the massive brunch tower. Ala carte menu was sparse, service was poor and food quality was very sub standard. The crab croquette was basically a crab cake which is ironic at a SO level restaurant. Should've read the reviews before booking! Will not return
