Review Sum Yi Tai - Singapore

First step into this bar and you will feel as though you have step foot into the late 1980s Hong Kong. Adorned with the traditional dragons, bright neon red, and old school decorations, this place felt quaint. However my seating was at their rooftop bar up in 4th floor so ambience wise it was quite a jump as if you went up expecting the same ambience as their 1st floor, you would be disappointed. Although it is normal for rooftops to be filled with lesser decorations due to space constraint. Drinks wise, prices were more steep compared to other bars in Singapore and menu items were limited. Nonetheless, waiting staff was helpful and friendly which makes my visit to this place an overall enjoyable experience.

Always heard about it. The chairs are not very comfortable. But like the innovative cocktails. Food wise, you can find more outstanding ones elsewhere, here got ambience

Was at the rooftop bar for tapas and drinks. Happy hour drink prices are decent for the area. There are some interesting cocktail, chinese tea + alcohol, loving the fusion. However the drinks are a little inconsistent, the same gin+tonic item was very strong for the 1st order and subsequently when we ordered the same, it was very watered down. The food menu is also fusion, the beef cubes was one of the highlights. Very tender and flavorful!! View was good, and staff is friendly. Will be back!

Cool place for a few drinks especially the rooftop. However, not a great place for proper food. Tried most dishes for dinner there but was mediocre. Only one dish was really good... the carrot cake! Crispy pork belly was crispy but meat was a bit mushy as if frozen or from the day before. So visit for a drink but skip the food. Instagram @iambruisedlee

Went there for dinner with friends. It suddenly rained but the staff and other customer didn’t seem to feel it. We had to ask the staff to settle this and we were given two umbrellas to hold it ourselves. Hilarious! Lucky the rain stopped shortly after a while. They should have consider this situation when have an outdoor bar on the rooftop. Nice deco of the bar. The alcohol was nice but the food was so so. They have some Hong Kong dishes in the menu but it tasted totally local singaporean style. The only good food was shrimp paste crispy pork belly. It went well with beers i assumed. We also had other food but the taste was all the same I could take pics and forgot what was that. Definitely will not go back again.

Assigned to rooftop seats. Small cramp, smoking area. Food was local dishes that you could get at hawker, but is worth the $$ when u juz wan a good place to unwind. Opt for non-rooftop if u are non-smoker. The place mainly for drinks, gathering.

Personally, I find sitting on a high stool in a somewhat dingyly dim environment ain't the most conducive way to enjoy lunch. At least there's a nostalgic factor with the canto pop songs drifting out from the pipe in... 😊 Anyway.. back to the really matter at heart.. How's the food? 🤔🤔🤔.... Smallish selection of average tasting dim sum platters complemented by some resemblance of mixed canto style roast meats (char siew and roast duck that sort of things) and noodles... Typically average quality canto style food... With slight concern over the prices though... 😆😆😆. 3.5 stars

Prices are not the lowest for Happy Hours in the vicinity. But this joint is certainly not choked full of drinkers and thus facilitates a decent conversation with friends, it being tucked slightly away from the main strip of drinking holes. Snacks are decent. Sadly the claypot rice which i had high hopes for was not palatable.

Super lousy place Patronised this place on 23rd of December. I had high hopes of it leaving a good impression. Heard rave reviews from previous customers that this place provided sumptuous food and admirable service. But that wasn’t the case for the latter. When we were having a whale of a time in the private room at around 11.30pm, the waitress came in and told us that the place was closing for the day as there were no other customers except us. We even tried to be accommodating n were gracious enough to request her to extend the opening hours to 12am. She agreed. At around 11.40pm, the climax occured. A middle aged man walked in our room and ORDERED us to leave immediately. His tone was not at the slightest nice level. I’m guessing he’s a foreigner from his accent. There were still many drinks left on the table and together with the waitress, we managed to persuade him to leave the room and wait. But he wasn’t satisfied at all. 5 mins later, he stomped in again and said the same words again. We tried to reason it out with him, but it seems like in his dictionary, there’s only two words. ‘CLOSED ALREADY’. At this point, the waitress came in and kinda pulled him out of the room. Our mood was dampened by this sort of ridiculous attitude. However, the matter took to a worse. While some of us were outside, we witnessed the man trying to barge in to our room and maybe even forcibly trying to make us leave. Fortunately, the waitress successfully contained him by holding him back even though he kept resisting. After he vanished out of our sight, we left the place. The waitress apologised profusely, but it wasn’t her fault at all. It’s the MAN’s condemnable actions. We left the place and caught sight of the opening hours. It is clearly stated: Sat and PH: 7.00pm-1.00am. This makes complete no sense! What rights does this man have to make us leave! Coterie Dining Concepts, You need to look into this matter as we are appalled by this man’s insolent attitude and behaviour. Thank You.

Loved the food and ambience of the place. The food was great, espcially the fried salmon skin with salted egg, fried rice and beef. Also a great idea, that the place is divided into 3 sections, the ground floor for casual dining, 2nd floor for cosy gatherings, and rooftop bar for chill out sessions. Highly recommend Sum Yi Tai!

Love the lunch express menu, really good value for money and the unlimited soup of the day for lunch never ceases to amaze. Tapas snacks like salmon skin in salted egg and spicy XO carrot cake are our must orders for extra sharing dishes at lunch. With floor manager Ian giving excellent service, SYT is a top lunch spot for us

This place is too much. And by too much i mean too much good food, over the top hospitality and great service not just by the same staff (been there a few times) but by all the different staffs each time i go!

Sum Yi Tai is one of my favorite spots to hang out in Singapore. I enjoy bringing friends here, the Hong Kong style interior design is beautiful. The staff are always attentive and the quality of the food is always consistent. Love the spicy king prawn wantons! Their roof bar has a nice view too, perfect on a breezy evening.

I have been to SYT(Sum Yi Tai) for more than a year now. What keeps bringing me back is the consistency in the quality of the food, the responsive staff and the surreal feeling of being immersed in a Chinese gangland turf in the Tapas Bar or dining in the opulent Dining Club or sipping wine or whisky and gazing into the starry sky at the Rooftop Bar. The following menu items are my favorites: 黄金魷魚鬚 Golden Salted Egg Squid Tentacles ,岳父生蠔炸蛋 Father-in-Law’s Fried Egg Served with sautéed whole oysters, 乾炒牛肉河粉 Wok Fried Angus Beef Hor Fun and 香芧什果凍 Chilled Lemongrass Jelly with Mixed Fruits With all the lavish reviews and write-ups from established food columnists/writers, one can never go wrong about stepping into SYT.

Had the best service ever from a bartender at the roof top. He went his way out to make us feel comfortable, recommend food and get us a table after drinks. Didn't catch his name but have to give him a thumbs up . Food, drinks and ambience is awesome too.

Been here around 4 times for food and drinks. Always a pleasant experience. The food is to die for. I love the deep-fried salmon skin with salted egg, deep fried squid with salted egg, string beans with minced pork, and the fried tofu. Also the resto is featured on Entertainer app so it's a great bargain if you get to use the app. Definitely one of my favorite spots for Chinese comfort food.

Worst experience ever had. Date: 23 Dec 2017 Started off ok. We had booked a private room to celebrate Xmas as well as my birthday that is around the corner. Things started to become ugly when 1) waitress came in at 11.35pm and told us the place was going be closed at 1145pm. Shocked, we asked why as we were told that the closing time was 1am on sat. Then she claimed that they do not open on sat and it was because of my frd that they gave such exception. We reasoned out to her as we had not finish our drinks. In the end, she came back and informed 12midnight. 2) while we were at the outdoor area chit chatting, there was this guy who barged in at 11.45pm, saying ‘closed already’. My frd asked him as she was here around oct/nov and the place closed at 1am and it was a sat too. The only 2 English words the man know was ‘closed already’. Whatever we asked, he responded with these 2 words. 3) so we walked back to the private room while the waitress and the man was having argument. Can’t figured wat was said. Only saw the waitress trying to push the man while he was trying to barge into the private room. We decided to leave as the mood was totally spoiled. This was further amplified when we saw the opening hours (extract) at the entrance: Saturday & PH 7.00PM - 1.00AM Zzzz What started fun ended up in foul mood. What a night. Bottom line: Be there at yr own risk. You never know if you will be chased out.

Food was awesomely tasty, but slightly over-priced. Staff there is very very friendly & attended to whatever we need. Quiet place to have a catch-up with friends. Nice ambience!

Love the rooftop bar at level 4. Excellent for chilling out over drinks and food is pretty yummy! Cocktail list is limited though. Love the Chinese Mojito for tangy chrysanthemum flavour. Beef brisket is really yummy that we wish there were more

Been there two times so far and will be more than happy to return again. What attracts me to the place other than it being a location for the Ladies Card, is the ambience and friendly staff who are more than willing to create conversations and help out when in doubt. I also love the asian tapas that they offer. Hoping to go back in two weeks for a little gathering with my friends and try the main dishes!

Never came across such a bad service rendered out by a pub/restaurant. Stated very clearly operating hour: Sat close at 1am But a male waiter probably not a local as he doesn’t speak with a local accent, spotted with a ka li pok hairstyle, not once but twice barged into our private room and demanded us to leave by 11.45pm. Reason given due to we are the only customers left in the premises and they want to leave early.

Had fun celebrating friend bday and staffs are really friendly. The open up the rooftop bar earlier for us as 1 of my friend is preggy :) Love their carrot cake. It’s addictive
