Review Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring - Singapore

CK C
The putu piring was soft and moist and topped with a generous amount of freshly grated coconut. Each piece was filled with gula melaka that was not too sweet. But do note that the kueh breaks very easily. There are branches nearby in Al-Azhar Geylang Serai and Haig Road Food Centre.

Queued for about 5-10 minutes for the putu piring. Ordered 2 sets. Each set contains 5 and it costs $2.5. paid with cash to the machine which I never seen in other store. The putu was good. Sweet, gula malaka was generous, coconut was ok. Didn't eat straight away but it was still good after but I think it will be better while it is hot.

Ardent supporter for the outlet since they were at Haig Rd market but it was closed and have to settle for this other outlet. No customer and the putu piring were all pre made and kept in a warmer. Not sure how long ago they were made but they’re definitely not hot and fluffy and they were stuck together - the pandan leaves were obviously not used at all to separate them! In addition, the gula melaka was in a semi solidified state. Went craving for my usual fluffy putu piring but came home utterly disappointed.

Queued for more than 20 minutes for this Putu Piring. The Malay lady in front of me shared that this was kampong style and healthy food. Had it on the spot with hot drink from Mr Teh Tarik, while it was still fresh and hot. At affordable price of 5 pieces for $2.50. Give it a try if you happen to be there.

A very small store run so efficiently by a group of ladies working in an assembly line. Orders are taken through a machine, like an ATM machine. Based on the order the putus get packed. Each packet has 5 small putus that are packed tight to form a rice cake, to say so. It's served along with coconut and gula melaka or palm sugar. Definitely worth a try, given that this store was featured on Netflix, the store also has a board mentioning the same. I would also like to note here that I wasn't a fan of putu puring and I was quite disappointed with the taste and texture of it. This is solely because I grew up in Southern India where putu, is a stable breakfast dish. And putu puring is nowhere near that in taste. Coconut shavings that were served along didn't taste quite fresh and had a salty taste to it, that's not how fresh coconut would taste. Texture wise it was tightly packed to form a rice cake so that was also something that I didn't expect to see.

Always see many people sharing about this putu piring is the best in SG. Finally I have a chance to try it. I was lucky that I didn’t have to queue long. I reached here around 2.30pm on Saturday. Personally think their gula melaka is not as fragrant as i expect because I tried the best putu piring. Perhaps can’t find nice gula melaka in SG. $2.50 for 5 pieces and just a small piece. I can finish them all. Anyway, still can fix my craving. Can’t really compare is this the best putu piring in SG because I haven’t try the rest.

The main stall at Geylang Serai was closed for cleaning so we went across the road to this. Unfortunately, the putu piring was pre-packed in a box and kept heated. As a result, the items became mushy and dried out too, and all clumped together. Not the best we have had from them. They also only had the gula melaka version. Payment and getting change is via the machine, which is more hygenic.

First time trying their Putu. Price was reduced to $2.50 for 5pcs. Seller is generous to give a lot of fresh coconut. Taste good but not presentable. The first qns I ask myself when I opened up the packet is, should’ve the gula melaka be inside each putu & not what is shown on my photo. I tried to separated them but there’s no way u can separate them out. Each individual putu should have individual leaf, so that they wont stick to each other & while it’s hot, the leaf will give each putu additional fragrance but that’s not the case. So many leaf are put on only the bottom putu only. Will eat for the taste only. Will not eat if there is an increase in price.

I bought 3 pkts of putu piring from Alwadi coffee shop Onan rd .. To my surprise, the putu were already prepacked. Although the putu were still warm, but they tasted not as nice as usual if they were made fresh on the spot.. And the putu looked slim/thin with so little gula melaka felt so disappointed as I brought my mom there after I praised so much about this putu stall, telling my mom that it's not ordinary putu piring

Found this branch by chance while wandering aimlessly at Ang Mo Kio this afternoon. Serendipity... such joy! So happy I don't have to go all the way to Geylang Serai anymore.

The putu is nice. I bought 4 packs, only to my dismay to find that all were stuck to each other. Please consider separating them with pandan leaves instead of putting the leaves as garnish. Also, when packed piping hot, the package had lots of condensation. Packaging needs rethinking.

Seems like a different recipe, colour and texture for the Gula Melaka. Used to be able to taste abit of crunch from the Gula Melaka. Now its like a sweet sauce to the white flour. I found from my recent purchase from both stall that Its not as sweet as before also. Miss the previous taste!!

Probably the best putu piring in Singapore. And not many stalls sell them.
Wendy Koh
Eat there while it is hot. Best Putu Piring in Singapore.
Sulaizah Saptoe
Giving it this unfair rating since the owner allows ridiculous long queue to exist due to huge / multiple orders per customer
