Review Ananda Bhavan - Singapore

Sanketa Salunke
I've been to this outlet of Anand bhavan countless number of times for a quick bite after shopping at Mustafa for groceries. While it is good for typical south Indian snacks, I did not find it that appealing to write a review. But today the experience I had was so amazing that I had to share with everyone. Food - I ordered idli sambhar (small idlis dipped in sambhar with generous amount of ghee). Not sure if it was because I was very hungry but today this humble bowl of idli sambhar tasted exactly like home cooked dish. Idlis were supersoft and sambhar was pretty good in taste too. To my utter amazement, I was served by a 'robot' ; it was really fascinating to see that a robot is serving customers at their table. I plan to take my kid during next visit for this humble idli sambhar bowl and the 'robo' server.

Food was mediocre considering the price, ordered the Ghee paper thosai and vadai. Served by a robot which was pretty cool. Otherwise service at counter was rude and requested for takeaway was terribly rude. I will not visit again. There are better options down the road

I ordered ghee paper masala thosai, vadai and coffee. But the cashier misheard it as ghee paper thosai oops! So I got to try the ghee paper thosai and it was delicious paired with their sambar, coconut and thakkali (tomato) chutney. It became cold very fast which is why I always prefer masala thosai! But the paper thosai had the beautiful crunch to it and I enjoyed it nevertheless! 😋 the vadai was not too great that day, if you're lucky or early, you'll get hot and fresh methu vadais. I was there after 5pm.

They have the best curries ever.. Can't get enough of it. My paneer dosa was absolutely delicious!

Approach can be difficult because of the boxes stacked outside. Food was disappointingly cold. Some dishes not even room temperature. Cold chapatti also Asked for Cutlery and lady said "you people eat with your hands" ! Then relented and gave us cutlery with one napkin for two of us ! Didn't dare ask for another napkin

Good and convenient location. Since many years eating out here. Lately finding food quality becoming more and more ordinary. With many better options around will skip this place in future.

The idly / dosa is good but chutneys aren’t fresh most of time served cold from refrigerator. It’s doesn’t have the authentic taste. Not worth the money they charge. Another issue is Under staffed. No one there to clean the tables after reported to them. Please avoid this place on busy hours.

My friend and I were sitting at the table across each other waiting for our food to come. At one point she leaned over to speak to me. Seeing that the manager began to shout across the room demanding us to distance ourselves. 1. There is no such rule that the 2 of us must maintain a strict distance of 1m. I called up other restaurant owners and the Ministry of health to confirm this. 2. In any case the manager could have come forward to us and spoken decently. There was no reason for him to publicly humiliate us. 3. I noticed that he went around aggressively telling people to put their mask on properly when he himself had his mask under his nose I attempted several times to speak to the manager but he was steadfast in his decision and continued to aggressively tell us off. At one point he even pointed to this contact asking us to text the hotline. The hotline has not replied me either.

This place is a good and economical place for Indian type of vegetarian in Singapore. The place serves authentic South Indian and a bit of North Indian cuisine. If you go in the afternoon do try their South Indian meals.
Bookworm
Among the best vegetarian places in little India. Excellent preparations. Great south indian food. Even the North indian thali is awesome.
Awesome quality food at very decent price. Plus its a pure veg restaurant. Must try for Indian food.

This is our go-to place for South Indian food whenever we are travelling to Singapore. It is located right in front of Mustafa and serves Indian Vegetarian Food.

What we Ordered - Plain Dosa, Masala Dosa, Podi Idli, Mango Lassi, Filter Coffee

What we Paid - SGD 21.50

What we liked - Quick service and quality of food.

What we didn't like - Cleanliness of the washroom and restaurant.

We had ordered, pongal vadai, podi thosai, masala thosai. Nothing was very tasty, vada was super oily! Probably oil was not hot enough so it soaked up. Pongal was very average, not tasty at all. Sambar was a saving grace. Overall not a good experience.

Visited this place during peak weekend hours but thanks to their super service , I enjoyed the food with the super fast service. Had ordered Mysore masala dosa , tomatoe onion uttapam, daal Makhani and tandoori roti . Everything was delicious and value for money .

We reached here for lunch and were very hungry ....
The place was like a fast food center and was quite noisy
The place served food of a wide variety ranging from south indian to punjabi etc...
We ordered a sabji roti which has 2 rotis and 2 sabjis with one bowl curd...
Now this was okayish ...the sabji was of paneer and potato...the potato sabji being better.... paneer was very stale kind of ....
The rotis were dry and thick ....and curd was too salty .
Next was a masala dosa....this one was decent enough though not too good ....however better to fill the tummy !

We were to reach Singapore from Davao by 9.30 p.m. local time by CEBU Pacific Airways, thanks to the Airlines, due to technical fault, our flight reached Changi Airport at 11.45 p.m. MRT closes 11.30 p.m. So we had no option other than to book a car to Claremont Hotel on Serangoon Road. We reached the hotel at 00.30 hrs. Checked into the hotel and moved out for dinner on to the Syed Alwi Road. We could see only Ananda Bhavan open at that point of time. Ananda Bhavan is open 24 hours.
We ordered for one masala Dosa, 1 Rava Dosa and 1 Masala Rava Dosa.
All the items were really tasty and really big ones , one Dosa and you are full.
Enjoyed the Indian taste in Singapore after a dreaded vegetarian food venture at Philippines.

Wow, what amazing food , really delicious. Best Sambar I above had. When we were there in Dec2018, it was the only place we would all go to. Definitely worth a visit ..

Decent place if you are looking for pure vegetarian food in Singapore. Tried the meals, quantity was sufficient. However considering the place to be a favourite joint for Indian diners, the service was little slow
Another South Indian restaurant in Little India to serve best food for Indians. They serve good breakfast like idly, dosa, pongal, pori, chappathi. They also have north indian food like Butter naan, kulcha and other breakfast menus. They also serve lunch menu like lemon rice, coconut rice, sambar rice and they also have thali.

My review for this place is based on my multiple visits here.

So not so impressive and so exciting about this place, but yes this place is only preferred when you have no more options left and if you’re too too tired. So in my past 3 trips to Singapore, I only visited this place only after I landed and it was too late for me to find the right place after 10pm.

This place doesn’t make you fall in love with their food but they do have number of combos that one of it can suit your appetite and fill you hunger. Place is always too crowded that means slow Service, Poor condition of Hygiene and won’t make you feel comfortable.

Food is just OK, not so tasty but “ Chalta Hai “ type. Not so tasty, except their Sambar that’s the only great food that I loved. Their Punjabi food 🥘🧐 is truly South Indian type and they’re absolutely Pre-packed readymade Sabzi for sure. Phoolka 🧐🤫 don’t, never go for it, instead take a Tandoori Roti, that will be better than their other stuffs.

Price wise they’re quite expensive compared to the quality of their Food. So my ratings on their Pricing is 2.5/5, Quality of Food 3/5, Ambience 🤫 2.5/5 & Hygiene 3/5.

So ........ Thik Hai, Chalta Hai, type of Place.
Shubh Amrut
Very rude cashier. One fat old man was cashier who was very impolite. Food was ok. Location is good. Price was also ok. South Indian food was better prepared

Located opposite Mustafa this is probably the best known and most beloved Ananda Bhavan branch in Singapore. The food here is really good and even with only vegetarian offerings on the menu, the place makes you want to keep coming back.

You can also go to this place to fulfill your late night cravings for authentic Indian food. Although the menu after midnight is quite limited.

I’ve been to this place after a few late night shopping list runs at Mustafa and I always try the Puri set. It makes me keep coming back. The aloo served is awesome and the puris are fresh and absolutely delicious. This is cherished midnight Indian soul food in Singapore. I’ve tried the dosa and idly sets as well and will certainly recommend to anyone who can’t make them better at home, which I assume are most of us.

The service can be slow sometimes ; the place runs 24 hrs, so be a little patient if the billing counter is unattended. You can always ask and be nice to the staff. A lot of entitled customers visit this place and the place accommodates everyone, so be nice, the folks here are pretty hard-working. The service is great and the food reaches you fast. The facade is alright ; but for the cost, it’s not bad and the food more than makes up for it.

All in all a great place for some great Indian vegetarian classics.

This place is I guess best place to have South Indian.

Pick any south indian dish, you would be surprised by the quality of the food. Their Sambhar is just amazing.

Dosa,,Idli.. Uttappam .. everything.. Best of best...

Staff is so good at this place..

Good experience here. Great tasty veg south Indian food, pretty much authentic you can say.
Service was fast, and staff ready to help at all times. Overall, this can be trusted upon for some good veg Indian food.

Food is bad and the owner refused to reorder tandoori prata Al karte. The restaurant is looting ppl in the name of India. Also the Mysore masala dosa we ordered was not crisp at all. Pls don't eat food at money hungry restaurant.

Haven’t tried the other restaurants along the road. Walked in here after essential shopping across. It really made me feel like I was india. Although everything was veg but they were all damn authentic. It’s really made like the cafes in India and it was really fantastic. The Chats, Dosa, Idli etc were all good. Please don’t think of keeping healthy when ur here. Go for their Rose milk as well.

Been there at the middle of the night around 2am .. this restuarant can be a saviour for your hungry stomach specially during night time when all the restuarants are closed .. speaking of the food at night their were very options available & the quality was not that great tried dosa & idli but didn't liked them that much.. may be during the day it is better.. & I must say this place is very crowded all day night..one can try once here

Decent Indian food in busy Syed Alwi Rd (Opp to Mustafa Center). Taste and hospitality is good. Its a self service restaurant with token system. Cost of a meal ranges from SGD$10 anf hot beverages at SGD$2. Bit crowded all the time need to have some patience or should not have trouble sharing your/their table with strangers.

Heritage food to enjoy at this place.
This is old self service food restaurant with excellent food and service. You can have all type of Indian food here.

If you are visiting Singapore, even for a day, then the Mustafa Centre is a must-see! Opposite to the Mustafa Centre is Anandabhavan, which played host to myself and my wife after a quick shopping trip in Mustafa. Digging into some yummy South Indian dosas, idlis and a mango lassi, it certainly satisfied our food cravings while we were on transit to Cambodia! A very busy restaurant, and with food like what we had, it is to be expected

Well a very busy restaurant... the food is good ... had the Rawa Masala dosa here ... well my favourite was the lime juice though .. it's quite refreshing

Ananda Bhavan (Syed Alwi Road opp. Mustafa Shopping Centre)- Good vegetarian food (both South and North Indian options available)
- One of the very few places in Singapore where Jain food is available
- Prices are reasonable
- Proportions are also decent
