Review Tanglin Club - Singapore

Excellent place. For members and their guests. Well appointed eating areas. Typical British🇬🇧 club.

This is a lovely members only club sitting in a prime area. It is an oasis of calm and is very exclusive. Apparently you need to be recommended by a number of existing members and be placed on a 1 or 2 year long waitlist in order to be admitted as a member. Your chances of being admitted are higher if you are a foreigner, they maintain a mix of 51% foreigners and 49% locals. The food is always good whether it is at the terrace or the tavern to the very grand Churchill room. There is a lot of history here and it feels like a step back in time. You can't enter unless you are signed in as a member. I really like this place and if I could have one country club membership I'd like to have this (more than SICC). Wishful thinking though...if you liked this review please hit like so that more people will see it

The service in this place is horrible. Especially the young waiters in the pool restaurant. so slow and with big attitude. Guests have to fetch their own menu, forks etc. No waiter serving people. This is supposed to be a private members club? It's a really bad one. Waiters rudely shouting in Chinese. No service No courtesy.

This is a exclusive member only British club. Love the rustic authenticity of the building housed at Scott Road. The facilities n accommodation are well maintained and functional. The Chinese (Tang Yun) and Western restaurants (Churchill n Tavern) must book and try. No regrets. Excellent friendly staff like receptionist, Ms Irna and Tang Hun, Ms Felicia.

Invited by a friend to dine in Tavern on 29 Apr 2022, ordered a medium rare Wagon premium steak, and this is what it came out to me. Never saw this before and thought maybe its a different level of chef cooking, so to avoid any misunderstanding, I ate without questioning. The next day which is today, I sent the photo to Italian, Australian and French friends who are all head of chef for premium restaurants, they said this is totally raw in between the steak, uncooked in the middle with the unbelievable fat dangling at the side of the meat. As a general public without any knowledge, this is my himble feedback for the restaurant kitchen to know, so they can improve. Medium Rare is not Middle Raw. Thank you.

“The Tavern” The Tavern. I have never been and am not a member, but on occasion I get invited to this prestigious club! Today we had lunch at “The Tavern”! Oh my god, has the standard dropped! My Friend had an Onion Soup, a perennial classic, he enjoyed it, but the soup was certainly not properly gratinated, instead a shortcut, it looked pathetic! I myself had a so called Caesar Salad, Poor old Caesar would turn in his grave! (Yes I know it didn’t come from there, rather a Mexican original) but still, Greens, chopped up with a dressing that had nothing to do with Caesars . Slices of some smoked/raw ham, no croutons, but 3 slices of dried bread! Edible but wrong, 3 out of 10! The picture on the menu looked like Dover Sole, yes the menu said Lemon Sole, but why then use a Dover Sole Picture, ??? Lazy or what, for sure misrepresentation! The worst was that the pan-roasted sole was covered in some white unidentified sauce! This is such a NO GO! Completely clueless in the kitchen! I had a slice of prime rib, Gentleman’s cut, but server said Ladies cut, never-mind, the Rib was pretty darn good! But that’s where it stopped! Baked potato must have been cooked the day before, terrible potatoes, I asked if I could change the vegetable to creamed spinach, not allowed, why? Explain please!Vegetables served were cooked in advance like the whole pot for the restaurant, unimaginative and absolute average! The Yorkshire Pudding looked like a flattened pancake and cold! I asked for a bernaise sauce, and got a liquid white something something in a dirty container! (Was informed by an ex staff that a washed down packet sauce is used, true or not, not sure, but it was BAD) Rib 8.5 out of 10, sides 4 out of 10 For a club of such repute I suggest to hire Chef´s that know what they are doing, that are passionate to deliver an experience befitting this classic & traditional location! Service that is properly trained! PLEASE!

It's such a lovely club and on stepping in, one still feels the colonial atmosphere everywhere. I love the Churchill room.

Hidden gem, food options as a member or guest are very reasonable/good value for money and decent quality and taste. Reservations recommended especially for weekends for the tavern or nicer restaurants. Accommodations are well appointed and also very reasonably priced. A bit of a walk to the orchard MRT but very straight forward. Staff are also generally quite pleasant.

This is a place of great memories. Curry tiffin on a Sunday, Mee Hoon by the pool. A great place. Would highly recommend all to visit.

A fantastic place to stay in Singapore, made possible for me through reciprocal rights with the Christchurch Club. Rooms were spacious and well appointed. Service was great and the facilities ( pool and restaurant) were excellent. A great piece of old world in a city that is modernizing rapidly.

I spent most of my childhood there. Lunch in the Wheelhouse every Sunday ( clay pot beef ). A family club.

The place is good but what makes it special are those people working to provide the best service to their customers. Keep it up!

This is a fabulous venue for relaxing or playing tennis, or going to the gym or simply just eating at one of their wonderful restaurants. The head waiter downstairs is a blast!
