Review 328 Katong Laksa - Singapore

Agus Wiwanto
Still one of the best laksa in the world :-) All the spices and ingredients are mixed in the balanced delicious bowl. Don't expect chopsticks though, everybody eat with spoon. You can choose a regular or jumbo bowl, all will be served fast, even faster than the fast junk foods.

Review: It’s still pretty good, if not one of the best but maybe nostalgia was missing. If you asked me a few years ago, I would have straight up given 328 Katong Laksa a 5 star review. But for some reason this most recent bowl of laksa seems to have missed a little bit of something special. Don’t get me wrong it’s still delicious, and the hype around Gordon Ramsay losing the famous Hawker Challenge 2013 was well justified. I would still say it is worth a visit if you’re thinking of checking out Singapore Laksa. But! I remember how it used to be many years ago and it just wasn’t the same. Maybe because the accompanying chilli now comes In a plastic packet and isn’t free flow, and the price seems to have gone up again. I never fail to come when I am in this area (and it isn’t the easiest of places to get to either) but I’m beginning to wonder if complacency mixed with grab home delivery and the lack of friendliness from the service staff will be the ultimate downfall of a historic Singaporean gem. I hope it still is here on my next visit, but perhaps there is some desire to explore another place that tugs at my stomach strings the way this place used to. 🥢 🥢 🥢 🥢 /5 chopsticks. (Ironic since they only serve it with spoons) Notes: Party of 3, Went on a Friday evening and it was pretty quiet, which was surprising, but steady stream of home delivery. The Otah and Laksa pair well together, and the nasi Lemak is always average but for some reason we always buy one.

Came here on a Sunday evening with my girlfriend. The place was relatively quiet. We both ordered a small laksa but I added eggs in mine. I initially thought that putting ramen eggs in laksa was a bit weird but my mind was blown when I had it. I haven’t had much laksa in the past but this was really good.

The most famous Laksa king. This little restaurant is so famous is probably because many socialites have been here. From the photos on the wall the one can tell. Although this is a web celebrity rest, the food is decent here. Ever since then, 328 Katong Laksa has been calling themselves the “No. 1 Laksa in Singapore”. 328 means business boom in Cantonese. This is a neighborhood rest which can be visited daily. Katong is not a popular tourist area in SG comparing with Chinatown or little Indian. There is a “Malay village” nearby. This is a minority tour. The first laksa was invented by Janggut laksa. In order to make noodles easy to carry by spoon, the laksa noodles were cut into piece. This becomes the spotlight of Katong style laksa. The laksa broth offers the right balance of spice and coconut milk with dried shrimp flavor, a distinctive noodle soup that will tickle the tastebud. One spoon can carry both noodle and soup. This is really an awesome invention. Salted egg custard pau is a must try dim sum. The gold salted egg is wrapped with black pau skin which look like carbon. When you tear it, the gold filling flow over. Beside the palatable taste, diners’ eyes can also enjoy the food show. Some diners may know this rest from Bib Gourmand. This tyre brand is not good at recommending Asian restaurants! This rest only have 4.0 rating in Google which can tell local people have more expectation towards laksa. As a tourist, this place is worth a visit. This is a hidden gem.

Very yummy laksa. $7.50 for big bowl and $5.50 for small bowl. Felt that the price is a bit steep but at least they put in lots of cockles. The chill crab buns wasn't impressive though. No chopsticks is provided in the restaurant as the noodles are all cut up and you can scoop easily with a spoon.

The worst experience I ever had . The young girl with spectacle was so rude . She doesn't welcome us with a smile. She was rude in answering your questions. And when I asked why all my noodles were included with the chilli because I came with my children. She said you didn't say that you don't want . She was the worst service staff I ever seen . And she thought she was the boss there. By the way , the noodle was so so. They were over priced and the staff service was extremely bad . Not recommended.

Deserve 4 stars for : 1.Good amount of serving even for small bowl. Good for empty stomach during late lunch. 2.Clean air-conditioning space. 3.Easy ordering system. Menu overhead + on counter table. 4. $4.50 for a good amount of laska with prawns, fish cakes and hum. Less 1 star because it's self service even when need to wait.
