This was a divine experience. Wemt there to celebrate my wifes bday and it's actually my first omakase experience. Food was excellent, vibe was excellent, everything was just top notch. A bit on the expensive side but well worth it. Location is also awesome. After a nice meal you can go outside and walk by the river taking photos. Trull a magnificent place to go to for special events.
Quality of the product are amazing, every dish come with an explanation, the chef cook is magic in front of you
Unforgettable japanese fine dining experience
Excellent meal and best sushi I’ve had outside of Japan bar none, including NYC, SF, HK and elsewhere. Of course you are charged a pretty penny even without drinks but like all non Chinese /Hawker food in SG, you expect to pay a premium.
Service level was good. Not too obtrusive and a relaxed elegance. Chef was engaging and friendly, unlike some of the more somber places in Ginza and Roppongi that I could name. Most dishes were memorable and if I could do it again, I would definitely opt in for a 2nd hand roll and more of that uni, abalone liver rice.
Had the privilege of being treated to a 20 course omakase meal here by a loved one.
In my review, I will be comparing Shoukouwa to the top restaurants at Tsukiji in Japan as a benchmark for top tier sushi. If we are talking about just the plain old raw fish, the intrinsic taste of the fish at Tsukiji was undeniably better - they tasted fresher, fattier, and more flavorful. But I think where Shoukouwa shines is the complex combination of flavors in the dishes.
At Tsukiji, it makes sense for them to just slap some raw fish on rice and let the quality of the fish do the talking, because you can't get fresher fish anywhere else in the world. It is hard to replicate that freshness in Singapore, but I think that Shoukouwa does a great job of still delivering amazing tastes and flavors through a combination of very well thought out complementary ingredients and sauces. Each bite is a whole experience in itself with all the different textures and flavors dancing in your mouth.
Considering that the price of this restaurant is comparable to a round trip ticket to Japan, it is probably best reserved for special occasions. Definitely an unforgettable experience if you have the money to spend.
Two Michelin stars - nothing else said. Head Chef Nishida-san was brilliantly part of the experience & humorous. One of the best omakase.
I was very fortunate to be able to dine in for the Miyabi $320 and Hana $480 lunch set.
It is truly an experience to witness the chef who's also an artist and perfectionist preparing the food before you.
Had a wonderful time, the ambient and setting captured the essence of omakase dining, felt like we're in Japan.
Each individual piece of sushi you put in your mouth will tells a story by itself through the complex flavour. Joking, I'm not that pro lah, actually it's the staff that will tell you the story lol. They did a wonderful job setting the atmosphere!
Would highly recommend to give it a try!
I would actually give the place 6 stars because I've given other sushi places 5 stars and this is better. Totally deserving of its 2 Michelin stars. A lot of interesting fishes were featured, and each was executed perfectly. Service and ambience are also top-notched.
